The Ooze ParticipantThe Ooze - Variation 3

A polar bear? Yeah, a polar bear. Why was there a polar bear in a place like this? Who could rightly say? The point was that it was here and it was pushing into Eska's space. The black and silver woman had been backed up into a patch of fog with the giant bear moving slowly towards her. Its moves were calm and calculated. It wasn't a fight yet, but it was going to be. She could see it in the bears dark eyes. It was hungry and she was small prey compared to it. Well... smaller though she may be, Eska Datura Timber would not be going down without a fight. This big white lump was about to find that out.

Not waiting for the bear to attack first, Eska threw herself forward, teeth bared, snarls ripping from her maw. She wouldn't make it easy. Lighter on her feet than the giant ursine, she skipped forward, snapping her jaws over its dark hued muzzle and raking her teeth through flesh. The bear shook its head and lowed, pulling back as though the pain meant nothing. It saw her now, however. The gears in its head moved as it thought about its course of action. Eska was ready.

The Ooze ParticipantThe Ooze - Variation 2

He'd been traveling here and there, exploring the world now that all the strange glowing things were gone and the sun had returned. Ifrit felt much better, almost as if nothing had happened, but he'd forever keep the memory of all that had happened. He wrinkled his nose at the thought of the crystals that had grown on his body. Those days sucked, but at least he didn't have to deal with it anymore. Walking quietly through the forest, fog swirled around his feet and he heard the occasional scuffle of a small animal under the leaves. Though there was another sound that got him on guard. A much larger creature was nearby, and from the sounds of it, another wolf.

He narrowed his eyes and moved forward to investigate, though he spotted the white pelt of the polar bears he was familiar with. What was one doing way over here? He lifted his lip in a quiet snarl as he caught sight of someone else jumping in for an attack in front of the bear. He was behind the bear...might as well get in a surprise attack and help out a bit, no? Rushing forward on quiet paws, Ifrit drew close to the polar bear's hind end and with an outstretched paw, raked his tiger-like claws across the bear's ankle, causing it to bellow in pain as flesh was torn away.

Though a predator magnet, aid always seemed to show up just when Eska needed it. Today was no different. A big, russet male came up from behind the bear. The difference in tone and vibrance between the white bear and the red male made him seem to glow. It was an interesting thing to react to and the woman mused mentally for just a moment before returning to the business at paw.

The bears attention was pulled by the bite from the male, so Eska went in the opposite direction. While he held the back, she ripped through the tender tissue of the bears elbow. Blood poured down its white coat, making its coloring similar to the wolf behind it. Again the bear roared, this time spinning towards her with a paw outstretched. She caught a bit of claw to the shoulder and spun a smidge, but her claws dug into the earth and she did her best to regain her footing, backtracking out of reach as she did so.

His unknown partner occupied the bear from the front, while Ifrit worked elsewhere. The bear had spun to go for him, causing Ifrit to leap out of range well before the bear could reach him, but then the stranger had gone in for an attack on the bear's elbow and its attention was drawn to her. Ifrit Smirked, claws extended and ready to strike once more. The bear roared in pain and frustration, he was sure, before trying to whack the girl with a paw. For a brief moment, he swore he caught a glimpse of her being struck, but he couldn't be sure. Before the bear could further go after her (or either of them), he lunged forward and grabbed at the other, undamaged ankle. Elongated fangs sunk into flesh and muscle, his horns stabbing into the bear's thigh as he aimed to destroy the leg and pull it out from under the bear.

It roared in pain as it tried to pull its leg, but the action only caused Ifrit's teeth to tear more flesh and cause more damage. As it turned in an effort to try and get him off, Ifrit simply moved with it as he violently shook his head.

Each wolf did their piece to distract, deflect and damage. It was obvious that both had killing skills and were capable of using them, but what was the point of a dead bear and using all of their energy if they could just run it off? Running it was Eska's plan, anyway. If this brute needed or wanted to kill it, then she would be obliged to help him since he'd come to her aid.

It seemed that the bear was going to make the decision for them whether or not it would be killed. The teeth and horns of the brute were too much for it and the white beast had flipped a switch in its mind. No kill. Only escape. With blood pooling in the ground with each step, the bear turned and ran. Eska gave chase, biting and nipping to keep it moving. It more than deserved it.

Once the bear was sucked into the mists of the forest, Eska stopped, casting her golden glance to the red brute. "Eska," she gave her name with a nod. "Thank you for your assistance."

He was sure the damage he had caused to the bear would be permanent. The polar bear likely would have some serious trouble getting back to the North, assuming that's where it would return. His teeth and horns had done significant damage to his hind leg. Flesh and muscle were torn and shredded, though when the polar bear ripped away from him, Ifrit allowed it to release itself. The bear opted to turn and run instead of continuing to fight, and as the female chased it off, Ifrit added to the escort and snapped his teeth and snarled, threatening to pummel it some more and making it think twice about turning around.

Once it was gone and out of sight, the she-wolf turned to him, her golden gaze the only light in the misty forest. "Ifrit. And don't mention it, I didn't have anything better to do anyway." Normally he'd just walk away without a word. But perhaps the past season or so had made him realize he didn't really like to be as anti-social as he thought.
