After the last spar, Grim shook himself off and nodded towards the wolverine to ready up for another challenge. The first one was quick and the day was still early. At this rate, he would have time for at least another spar. It would then be smart to head back home, since he did have to make some final rounds tonight and he didn't want to risk being late for his job. Grimshaw took a deep breath as he spread his paws in the dirt, balancing his weight as he tilted his head back one final time, letting out a call for another adversary, hoping yet again that someone of challenge would approach. He knew coming to the battlefield was a gamble. Anyone could answer his call, from a young child to an elder. He supposed any opponent was better than none, but he still hoped for a  real challenge while he was out here today.

"Speech."

The dissolution of her family's pack had provided a rather unique opportunity for the Praetor bitch to go forth and stretch her metaphorical wings without obligation, but something within her told her that the time had come to grow up and return home. She'd had her couple of seasons living rough and taking care of herself, and now she felt the pull of her set-aside responsibilities to her father, to her siblings, and honestly to herself. She owed it to herself to put herself in a situation where she could excel, and that was here in Boreas.

Her steps happened to be taking her through the battlefield when a call rang out over the rolling grasses for an opponent. The lanky yearling tilted her head thoughtfully. She hadn't gotten her first set of real armor or weapons since she'd only recently reached her adult height and probably hadn't yet filled out to adult proportions (she wasn't sure, maybe she was destined to always be shaped like a scrawny messy scarecrow) so she'd be going into the fight unequipped and ill prepared after her travels, but maybe that was the best time to be sparring. Her skills in that regard were rusty, she knew, and it could be a good idea to brush up on them before returning to her father and his high expectations

So she moved to answer the call, stalking stork-legged to face the dark colored stranger. She took a beat to study him, see that he was only a little older than she and no taller but a good bit heavier, that he wore a skull on his head, bracers on his forelegs, and was accompanied by a fighting companion. So, it wouldn't be an easy fight, then, but that was good. She needed to challenge herself from the start, not start with baby steps, and she knew she wasn't so proud that losing would bother her.

She nodded briefly to the stranger and readied herself, relaxing into the fighting stance she'd had drilled into her head practically from the time her eyes opened.

Grimshaw didn't have to wait long for a challenger to approach, a female that proved to be of a worthy size but without the armor and friend he had alongside him. While she seemed ready to take him head on without any gear, Grimshaw began to shrug off his armor and bracers. The wolverine eyed him suspiciously but Grim nodded and motioned for him to step aside and take the heavy gear with him. While the girl may be interested in battling a strong opponent, armored and with a second smaller mouth to attack alongside him, Grimshaw wanted a fair fight for both of them. He didn't want to win with little challenge because he was better prepared or too cocky to believe in himself without extra protection. Besides, there was bound to be a time when he wasn't prepared with his own armor.

Once his companion had moved away, Grimshaw matched her stance and glance. He'd only give her another moment to prepare before he sped off towards her, keeping his head level with his shoulders as he approached. He parted his jaws as he faked a grab towards her front right paw, using his front left paw to try and shove her front left paw out from underneath her.

Inferno watched, interested, as the dark stranger began to remove his armor and beckoned away his companion. So he wanted the fight to be fair then? Just the two of them and the assets nature gave them, skill against skill? She hadn't asked for it, but nor would she protest it out of a misplaced sense of honor. She, a skeptic, was certain he was not doing it out of honor anyway so what would be the point to changing his mind?

She readied herself as he charged forward, her mind dropping easily into the odd mix of relaxation and hyperfocus that came in a fight. His jaws snapped towards her right forefoot so she sprang to her left, feeling his paw barely tap hers as her paws left the ground and nearly tripping herself up anyway when she nearly landed on him. Instead she landed with her paws on either side and sought to fasten her teeth into the scruff of his neck right behind his lowered skull. With her oversized fangs she would need to be careful not to do more damage than a spar warranted, so she aimed for taking a grip on the loose skin and hair there rather than sinking her grip deep into the muscle.

Although his teeth hadn't made contact with her paw, it did cause somewhat of an imbalance as she struggled briefly to find a place to put her feet. They landed on either side of his own with her coming down with open jaws to grab his scruff. Her teeth didn't look friendly, though Grimshaw couldn't say he was thankful for their hesitance to harm. He didn't mind a little blood, but he supposed it they wanted to fight that way then he would play along. Without having to move much, Grimshaw used the position he was already in with his opponent above him and tried to force himself under her with the idea that she would let go or hold on and end up straining her neck. Either way, since she was hesitant to cause him harm with her teeth, Grimshaw kept his jaw closed as he tilted his chin downwards to try and unbalance her hind legs as he attempted to force himself beneath her.

Inferno was able to get a grip on his scruff, but the male began to press into her grip, trying to unbalance her. She let her weight drop down, lowering her center of gravity and made as if to push back against his slightly greater weight, but then instead she sidestepped and at the same time pivoted around her grip on his neck so that his weight would instead send him to pass where she'd been before, her right foreleg seeking to hook his forelegs and jerk them along with her. She began pushing with her own weight, bearing down on her grip to attempt to force his head down towards the ground and, hopefully, throw him down entirely if she succeeded in pulling his forepaws out from under him.
