It's the bear necessities..
Hikaru

Patrolling the border under a bright spring sun, fresh vivid green shades of grass under his paws and bumblebee’s skirting from flower to flower, the whole area tingled with life that made boring patrol duty seem less boring. The predators were starting to slow down in the frequency of rude visitors as life started figuring out where all it should be. Patrols still had to happen though as there was always bound to be the stray stupid predator thinking to poach pups or easy food or just dang insane.
Glancing to Hikaru, noticing how much nicer it also was to have a partner who wasn’t covered in ooze and gems. Was it too soon to think maybe everything would stay normal now? He could go back to enjoying life? Kotori heard a grunting and huffing sound from a ways off. Glancing past the pack border it only took a moment to spot the bear heading towards them.
Always bound to be at least one predator that didn’t catch the news it was time to leave wolf territories. Kotori turned from their path to head towards the bear. He didn’t even bother to ask Hikaru, the two had been working together for a while now and he was fairly confident the other wolf would agree with the plan of going to meet up with it before the bear got closer.

Hika was so relieved to have the sun back in his life, more so he was glad to have his life. He thought that the sickness was going to take him, he had really thought he had seen the end. Mortis was there with him the whole time, and the brush with death had been enough for both of them to realize that they didn’t want to live the rest of their lives alone. They had each other and life gave them another chance.
Life was going back to normal but the differences and similarities were stark. The sun brought daylight once again, and with it the clarity of the cursed disease over Hika. What stayed the same was the koi and the young prince partnering up for patrols.
Even with things returning to normal, the local predator population hadn’t been convinced away. They were still in danger. The massive lumbering creature caught them in its gaze and with no need to even ask both young men veered toward the threat. Hika felt much more confident in his ability now that he was recovered. He had no hesitation in taking on the ursine.

The bear opened its mouth wide, giving them both a good look at its fangs. Admittedly they were impressive but Kotori smirked as it meant very little unless the bear managed to bite them.
Kotori jogged up to get a bit ahead of Hikaru to follow through with their base game plan. Snarling he made a mock lunge in then back out as the bear swiped its paw towards Kotori and lunged forward. Dang bears were dumb. The same trick seemed to always work. Kotori started walking a half-circle away from Hikaru as he stared at the bear, the bear’s gaze following Kotori so that he mostly forgot the other wolf behind him.
Kotori attempted another lunge in perfectly happy to get a real bite in if he could do so safely but once again the bear was ready to defend. That was fine, while Kotori would have gladly scored a strike he’d already won. Hikaru had free reign to get in a good attack.

Again Kotori took the lead and the bear’s attention. Like they had already done many times against bears before he’d keep its attention and Hikaru would go in for the vulnerable spot and try to drive home a fatal attack. It was a strategy tried and true so they went at it again. Kotori led the bear away with ease. Hikaru steeled himself. He’d already nearly lost his life once. When he thought he was about to die throwing himself at the enemy had been much easier. Still, he’d give his life to protect his pack if he needed to, hopefully he didn’t need to.
Kotori led it away and turned the best as he feigned ferocious attacks. Of course the boy was eager to do his own damage, but that was mostly what Hikaru was for. He snuck forward, quietly and staying to the bear’s blind side. When he was at just the right place Hika leapt. Jaws open he leapt to the bear’s back so he could better keep away from scythe like claws. Hikaru went for the back of the bear’s head, but was shaken from the beasts back.
He didn’t know how much damage he did as he was thrown to the ground. Hikaru struggled to his paws, hopeful Kotori had gotten its attention.

They’d worked together long enough Kotori had no fears of Hikaru not doing his task well. Kotori’s eyes were primarily on the bear with only a sense of motion that would be Hikaru getting into position. Kotori couldn’t risk too much yet. He needed to not be in trouble and regaining balance or dealing with an injury when Hikaru made his attack. Hikaru would need backup that exact second.
Then it happened. Hikaru went up the bear’s back. As Hikaru did whatever damage he could Kotori ran in, biting the arm that looked as if it might have swung towards the koi wolf. Kotori snarled sinking his fangs in, head shaking with passion. Hikaru was off the bear and Kotori was there. The bear had no choice but to turn his attention back to the horned wolf.
The bear raised up on its hind legs to thrust his body forward in a half-leap trying to just slam his paws towards the wolf, mouth ready to bite if Kotori gave him the chance. Tucking his tail to keep it from getting struck Kotori leaped away for a near miss.
The bear had blood sliding down its back and arm now. It was clearly in pain and questioning the wisdom in coming near the pack land. Kotori glared at the bear, keeping his gaze on its eyes trying, once again, to become the center of attention.

Like they had practiced so many times they tag teamed the massive beast with practiced ease. The danger was not rid of though, they were both in peril. Thankfully both young wolves were skilled and as Hika was thrown from the bear’s back Kotori was right there to take back up his position as the aggressor. Hikaru made his way back to his paws as Kotori took the brunt of the bear’s attention.
The koi pivoted, wanting to make sure he’d get back to the bear before it made it all out assault on Kotori. With his brows furrowed and teeth revealed through a snarl he almost missed the rivers of blood and poured from the bear’s head. There was only a few more moments of the two of them going against the beast before it finally made up its mind to turn tail and run from them. Hikaru gave a loud whoops and it tucked its tail and raced away from the Armada men.
