Balthier had never been to the northern lands, and while he had suspected there wasn't much for him to resource in the harsh climates here, he thought he would still try his hand at a hidden gem to hunt and take home. After all, there were no packs here so maybe that would let the prey flourish especially in the summer of Boreas.

As he carefully trekked over the Submerged Woods, he couldn't help but admire what he saw below. He felt a little chill, only because these climates weren't what he was used to. The pounding clicking sound that came from behind him made him turn immediately to see a giant polar bear booking it for him. He went to turn to run away but the ice under his paws made it hard to find traction like he was used to. His legs spread as he waited for the polar bear to catch up before he chose his next action.

She'd gone further north again to check out the surrounding lands, wanting to survey the area so she knew what was where, and if there were any regions that were to be closely watched. The blue bird had said there were no packs in the north, but she wanted to double check, as she wasn't often a wolf to accept information from a stranger at face value. Her family, sure, but not someone she didn't know, and especially not a bird. Iðunn managed to make her way through the snowy trenches, her long legs making it just a bit easier to escape the snow that threatened to swallow her whole, and with her lighter weight she was able to skirt around the deeper sections without too much trouble.
Eventually she came upon the strange frozen lake, but at closer inspection it looked as if there were trees and lush grasses frozen beneath the surface, which only raised more questions. She would have liked to sit and ponder for a while, had the scent of a polar bear not filled her nose and sent her on alert. They were dangerous predators, and while she wasn't too close to home it was still closer than what she would have preferred, so she silent stalked closer while doing her best to stay downwind. What she came upon was a polar bear heading straight for a large and dark wolf, who seemed a bit dumbstruck at the beast barreling his way.
For a moment she considered leaving the wolf to his fate, but then that meant she'd have to deal with the polar bear later anyway. Taking it down with the help of the other wolf was unfortunately the better idea, and so she leaped out onto the thick ice after the polar bear, shouting out loudly to draw its attention so the other wolf could have an advantage. "Over here you furred bastard!"

Balthier tried his best to square himself up and prepare to attack the polar bear once it was close enough. But while he was focusing on his own stance and slippery paws over the ice, he heard a call out farther away.

When he looked up, he saw the woman shouting out towards the polar bear trying to get it's attention. The bear did slide to stop momentarily, looking at the new body as if questioning if it should run and was outnumbered. But instead it turned back towards Balthier probably sensing how bad he was on his paws on the ice.

When it was close enough, Balthier jumped forward and on top of the bear, biting between it's shoulders and finding better traction on the flesh rather than the ice.

The polar bear slid to a stop at her voice, going as far to look over its shoulder at her, but then it just as quickly decided to return to chasing down the other wolf. A pity. She continued her mad sprint towards the two creatures, lengthening her stride as far as her long legs could go, watching as the wolf bravely, and also quite stupidly, jumped on the shoulders of the polar bear. If she hadn't been at a dead sprint and heaving in lungful's of air she would've scoffed at the sight, one wolf versus one polar bear was a dumb idea, but perhaps the wolf was taking a risk due to her presence.
Iðunn didn't even bother to slow down, knowing it would just lead to her slipping and falling at the speed she was travelling, so she instead pushed off the ice with her hind legs into the air. Her open jaws snapped at the open and bare neck of the polar bear that was presented to her as itr turned its head to try and grab at the wolf on its shoulders. She felt her jaws connect with flesh, and as an added benefit her momentum carried her body forward, and with a sharp wrench she forcefully dragged the polar bear by its neck along with her, before her paws finally met ice once more to come to a skidding stop.
A deep and feral snarl left her enclosed jaws, even as the muscles in her mouth and chin ached from the sudden stop to her forward movement. Just as quickly as she had grabbed the polar bear by its neck Iðunn released it, pushing herself backwards and away from its face hopefully before it could try swiping at her. She was probably more in danger on the ground compared to the wolf sitting on its shoulders, and she wanted to dart out of its reach before getting a large clawed paw to the face or body.

The woman came full speed up to the two fighting pair, throwing her own grasp and dragging the polar bear at least down on it's four legs. When she lost her grip, Balthier jumped down from the polar bear's shoulders and turned to face it again while sliding across the ice. He wanted the pelt to take back to Fenmyre, and for once his goal was to take it down. He looked where the woman had grabbed hold of it's neck and decided he would have to start there in the weak point to finish it.

He jumped forward and bit down on top of the existing wound, violently ripping and hoping he could get through it's tough skin to sever it's throat. The woman had to at least distract it a little so he could get enough strength and focus, or help him in ripping the throat.

Once the polar bear had died from blood loss or strangulation, Balthier looked over to the woman who helped him with a thankful nod, "Do you mind helping me pull this to my cart? I can give you a few meals for your effort." He would skin the bear once they got back to the cart and his supplies, but he had plenty of prey to offer the woman in return of her help.

The other wolf joined her back on the ice, but he wasted no time before making an attack at the polar bears throat. A low growl left her maw at the hastiness of the wolf; she wanted to take her time to pick the right moment to attack, but he was making it very difficult by riling up the larger predator. At least he had gumption at least, even if it could be misconstrued as foolishly bold. The polar bear was very unhappy at having a wolf hanging from its throat again, and it took a swipe at the wolf with one of its front legs.
Deciding she didn't want to push her luck and risk being grabbed by the polar bear, Iðunn ran around to the hind end of the larger predator with little issue as she was used to running on ice from years of practice. She took just a moment to pick her target, before leaping at one of the hind legs, taking it firmly just above the paw and clamping down as tightly as she could. Her own back paws dug into the ice as she pulled with all her might backwards, wanting to at the very least divert some attention from the polar bear if she couldn't pull it off balance. Her jaws clamped tightly, tight enough to crunch down on bone as she felt more than heard a loud popping crack from between her teeth, prompting a blood-curdling roar from the polar bear. If a broken bone wasn't enough of a distraction, then she didn't know what else would be.
