A variety of different meals would be good for the pack and the pups, and he didn't mind the extra work or extra search. He had taken a few nets and lines from the pack but also some of the items his sister had made in their own travels. Catching multiple prey at once with a trap was more satisfying even with the bit of extra work.

Pulling the cart up by the bank, he pulled out a thin net, laying it out flat and placing stones at each corner. He was going to roll each of the stones in the corners as weights before throwing the net into the grande.

"Balthier Destruction"

moving south hadn't exactly been his plan, but they needed to cover as much ground as possible. it would be necessary to ensure they looked everywhere before admitting defeat. except, kuroo was determined that they wouldn't. as the hot sun overhead warmed his back, he looked for a place to cool off. wandering beneath the shade of the dense forest, his ears tuned in to the sounds of a river. changing his direction to head that way, he was pleasantly surprised when he saw a wolf with a cart laying out a net. he had seen devices like this before back home for fishing. oh and fishing was his favorite. already feeling his mouth begin to salivate, he approached with friendly caution. "fishing is one of my favorites! need some help?" kuroo called out as he drew closer to the cart and eyed the rocks the male was rolling into the edges of the net. this was a different method than he'd done before, but new was never a bad thing.

Balthier wasn't expecting company, but when the stranger made himself known he didn't turn him away. Instead he let out a gentle smile, "If you don't mind." Looking up from his work for a second, his paws fussed with the net almost nervously like from the social interaction. Though Balthier was not very anxious around other wolves, it had just been a while since he had met anyone besides the alpha of his new pack. "I'll let you have some of the bounty afterwards." His voice edged on a humorous tone, but he was totally serious. It should have been a good trade off at least.

Gesturing to the rocks he had laid on the corners he instructed, "Just roll the rocks into the corners of the net like this," He burritoed the stones but still needed to tie them in. "This will weight them to the bottom of the river to make the bigger wall of the net."

"Balthier Destruction"

it was not lost on kuroo that the other wolf pawed nervously at the edges of the net. passing it off that it was just because he was a new wolf, kuroo beamed a friendlier smile in his direction. "i don't mind at all," he chirped with a swish of his tail as he got closer to the net. examining the boy's handiwork, the young wolf nodded with a hum under his breath. it appeared the boy wasn't doing all too bad himself, but the idea of getting fish and possibly a new friend out of it was appetizing. moving his gaze over the setup, he looked up to the wolf once more before grabbing a rock in his paw. fumbling slightly at first to get used to the rock in his grip, he slowly began to curl the rock into the corner of the net as the boy had gestured. soon, the rock was rolled neatly as the others looked. "like this?" he said with a smile and a few more exciting wags of his tail. grabbing another rock, he began rolling that one into the net as well.

The brute asked if he was doing it correctly, and with a quick glance over Balthier assured him, "That's perfect." He would need to take the pieces back apart when they were done so he didn't want to make the net too difficult to unwind. "There's a..." Baltheir pulled out a part of the net that looked like a rope, "Piece of string on the corner. Just pull that through the net and that should secure it enough." Balthier kept working on his own ends, but they were just about done. They would be throwing it in the river to catch fish here soon.

kuroo looked up from his work as balthier motioned toward the string. glancing down at his corner, he noticed the piece that looked similar. finishing up the pieces he had rolled together, kuroo pulled his end of the rope through until it was just snug enough to stay sturdy. admiring his work silently, the splotched boy stood up and grabbed his edge of the net. "we ready to fish?" he asked toward balthier with a few gentle wags of his tail. the excitement began to trill through him as he wanted to cool off from the warm summer sun overhead.

They finished securing the weights onto the net and Kuroo seemed eager enough to get started. Balthier smiled as he rose up from the ground, "Yup, good to go." Picking up one of the corners, Balthier motioned with his eyes for Kuroo to grab the other corner adjacent to him. He enjoyed the new brutes company, and he was eager to give him his reward afterwards.

Pulling his head to gesture to follow him, Balthier carefully stepped into the grande, using his paw to grab the stone weight and hop into position on the other side before dropping it down below him. He looked up at Kuroo and waited for him to join him in the river too, and once they were ready they could start walking up stream.

picking up his section of the net, kuroo carefully followed behind balthier so that the net wouldn't snag on anything. once they were at the water's edge, his pale eyes looked at the thinner expanse of the river. this area didn't appear as turbulent as other areas which soothed his worries of getting swept away. waiting patiently at the edge until balthier had hopped across to the other side, kuroo took his own steps into the chilly temperatures. dropping his weight into the water, he listened to the plunking sound it made as it sunk to the bottom. meeting balthier's gaze in the next moment, he waded a bit deeper in with the other edge of the net between his teeth. "should be fun!" he called out through clenched teeth as he began the walk up stream with balthier.

The two looked at each other now that they were both in the water, and Balthier nodded happily at the brute's comment. "Yup, let's go!" He spoke eagerly before taking steps forward and moving up stream. He didn't show it physically, but he was actually a little sad as he waded through the waters. It reminded him of the younger days he learned about hunting and fishing from his father. There was a time where Allegro was his idol, and he wanted nothing more than to be just like him. That was not the case anymore obviously. The weight of the net started to pound with the rush of the water, it was abrupt given he was lost in the thoughts of his childhood. Balthier looked over to Kuroo, his eyes pointing back to the bank. They probably had enough to split up and take home.

once they were positioned and their gazes met, kuroo began to keep an even pace with the boy. struggling slightly against the pull of the water, he kept a firm grip on the net. as the net began to fill and shake between his jaws, his excitement for a good meal grew. the river tugged at his chest as his paws fought to gain purchase on the slippery rocks beneath him. surprisingly, it didn't take long for their decent-sized net to fill up. before kuroo could really enjoy dragging the net through the water, it began to lag behind them. indicating that it was full, kuroo beamed over at balthier. stopping slowly so that the net wouldn't break loose, he kept his gaze between the burbling river and balthier while he waited for the wolve to swing back around to this bank. this was the point where they had to be careful so they didn't lose their entire catch.

With Kuroo stopping along with him, Balthier started to move over to his side of the bank and creating the largest bag of fish for them to pull ashore. Lowering his head, he took both the top and bottom corner of his side of the net and pulling them together. With both the net corners in his mouth, he looked to see if Kuroo had the same idea.

Once they had full control of the net, Balthier carefully placed his paws up on the shore and pulled himself and the full net up onto dry land. He pulled the net along with Kuroo to a place farther away from the water so that the fish wouldn't flop back in to the river.  Opening the net fully to reveal the hefty abundance of fish, he smiled and looked towards his partner, "Take as many as you need." He could take some to store too if he wanted. Balthier sensed he was a loner and the man was kind enough to take a more than fair share especially while Balthier had plenty of other meats on his cart to take back to Fenmyre.

quickly following suit of balthier, kuroo managed to snag the bottom part of the net that was weighted down. looping it with the part that was already around his ankle, he slowly trudged up onto the shore. moving in unison with balthier so that they were moved away from the water, he waited to place the net down. plenty full of fish, he watched as they squirmed and flopped around. slowly their movements would die off until their catch lay still. kuroo couldn't help but smile confidently over at balthier. this had definitely been a lot easier than if he had been catching them one by one by himself. as they flipped the net over to examine their bounty, he glanced at the abundance. "only need a few to tide me over," he mentions. unlike pack wolves, kuroo didn't necessarily have any sort of device needed to move such an amount. whatever he could carry on his back would be all that he needed. "i'll probably have to string some together with some vines to carry more than two," he mentions as he glances around the forested area.
