To his great pleasure, the wolves of the Armada had seemed to take their training requirements seriously once the Long Night broke. It was rare that he could cross the territory and not see one of his members training or instructing, and even his own litter seemed to be taking their education well. So far none had approached him to ask for a promotion, but both himself and Sirius were on the watch for wolves who were deserving regardless. Now that he had a moment of free time, Azure approached the training rings on Sea's Plain and chose one furthest from the sea. His head tipped back and called out an invitation for someone - anyone - to join him in a friendly skill-testing spar.

Grimshaw had been through a lot though with the aid from the boy next door and his own time spent hunting and training, he felt that he was doing better. As long as he had Malachai to sleep with at night, then he was rested and well put together for the next day. He continued to spend most of his time hunting or traveling to the battlefields to look for a new opponent, and he was actually considering those options when he heard a familiar howl. The man he had hunted with prior, but he hardly knew the second alpha. Interested in the offer the call entailed, Grimshaw shrugged his armor on and strode off towards the training grounds with his wolverine and monkey in tow and found the grizzly man centered within the farthest one from the ocean. Perfect. No chance of getting wet, so maybe luck would be on his side today. He'd never sparred with the man before, but knew just from hunting with him that it would be no easy task.

As he entered the ring, he nodded once to the man in greeting and squared himself up across from the man. He'd let him make the first move, eager to make this as much of a learning experience as possible.

The wolf who accepted his challenge was not one that was entirely unknown to him, but still a wolf he knew little of. They'd had a hunt together but little else, and Azure was not the type to seek out friendships or small talk from members of his pack. "Grimshaw." He greeted as the dark male nodded. "Give it your all, don't hold back." It was all the instruction he'd give, and it was up to the challenger ultimately to decide whether he'd accept Azure's offer to fight harder then a mere spar.

Grimshaw was allowing Azure the first move and it was an advantage the direwolf Champion would gladly take. He eyed the other man carefully, noting his comparable size and heavier weight, and then sprung forward. Azure had never been one for speed, and as he closed the distance between them he knew he'd not have the agility to outmaneuver and land a safe bite upon Grimshaw. Instead he led with his paws, bringing himself within grappling distance before lifting his mutated paw and aiming a hard slap of it upon Grimshaw's muzzle.

Azure addressed him and gave him the verbal approval to give it his all. Why couldn't every opponent be like this? Holding back wasn't realistic. Sure it was good for training, but how could he be learning if no one was fighting as hard as they could fight? The man was quiet and enjoyed a little bloodshed, something Grimshaw could certainly get behind. Although his opponent was far better trained than he, that didn't stop him from preparing himself for Azure as he charged ahead. Grim held his ground while the man approached, digging his claws into the sand to better balance himself. During his approach, Grim imagined that he'd either aim to bite with his large sabers or swipe with his massive paws, though when he saw Azure lift his paw to pummel his face with it, Grimshaw was quick to lean in the direction Azure's paw was pushing his face as he had since waited too long to completely dodge. He felt the claws against his flesh as his parted his jaws, hoping to catch into the offender with his sharpened teeth.

Azure's blow fell upon his opponents muzzle, though the satisfaction was lessened as the sting of pain bit through his pawpads and toes. Grimshaw was quickly becoming a formidable opponent, but Az could not let down his guard when he'd already given permission for Grimshaw to fight hard and dirty. Azure doubled down, flexing his toes in an attempt to bring elongated claws closer to the flesh upon Grimshaw's face as he bit upon his paw. At the same time he extended his neck and leaned forward, reaching out with deadly jaws of his own. They aimed to come down upon the ear closest to him, an extra incentive to force the heavier man to release his paw.

As his sharpened teeth sought purchase on the paw of the man, he felt the claws digging and tearing into his flesh. He wouldn't let go though, not yet anyway. The pain across his face was minor, although others may be hindered by the pain. Grimshaw, however, had a different kind of pain that physical pain downed out and was as refreshing as a good sleep. Unfortunately for Azure, pain hardly bothered Grimshaw outside of his current mental state, anyway. Now, he hardly cared what part of him was bleeding as long as it kept his mind focused here.

He felt the hot breath on his ear before the teeth closed around the tender flesh and cartilage, though besides a bit of a growl he hardly flinched. He had two ears, so what did he care if he lost one? Besides, by the looks of Azure's ears it wouldn't be long before his own matched. So, with little care whether or not Azure would rip his ear off, Grimshaw kept his grip on the mans paw as best as he could. Repositioning would be ideal, but in doing so he would risk the man getting away before he could get a better grip, though he could feel it starting to slip. He had to act fast before Azure could get out of this position. With a foreleg, he reached and swiped at the mans supporting remaining front leg in an attempt to sweep it out from under him and knock him off balance.
