Azure had tested the abilities of a few of his children already, now it was time to move from the boys to testing the strengths of his girls. First he'd call to him the largest of them, the one that.. ugh, glowed. If someone had told him when he was a child that one day he'd have a faintly glowing pup he might have decided then and there never to have children. It reminded him too much of Aurielle, though thankfully his daughter was much less lamp-post and more night-light then the Valhallan alpha was.

Calypso was a pup who did what she was told, and she arrived shortly after Azure's call. He eyed the girl for a moment, and then lifted his paw and gestured for her to attack. "Give it your best shot, prove to me your worth." He offered her.

"Speech"

Her father called for her and Calypso obeyed, nervously arriving at the training grounds already decked out in her leather glow-hiding armor. It was a challenge she expected sooner or later, as her father seemed to be making his rounds at skill-testing his children, but still Calypso couldn't get past the fear of challenging him. Her father insisted she strike first, insinuating that should she do poorly, he might not have faith in her ability to fight. It was not something the pup could risk happening, and so she called to her side her jaguar and raven.

Settling into her battle position was still uncomfortable, but Calypso practiced it regardless. She took a few moments to plant her feet, pull back her ears, flag her tail, and attempt to calm her rapid beating heart. Azure watched across from her with a scrutinizing gaze, and before she could see boredom bloom in her father's eyes Callie struck.

She led with her speed, zooming across the sand toward him with jaws wide and ready for biting. The ground was not as stable as she was used to, her paws fumbled in the sand, and before she knew it a bear paw was coming at the side of her head. She ducked the blow and continued on, aiming a bite upon her father's stabilizing wrist.

His child ran at him and Azure readied a hard blow from his paws. He could see from the way she ran that she was instable, unpracticed upon the arena sand and his head gave a small shake of disappointment. To his surprise the girl ducked the blow, her small sharp teeth heading directly for his other paw while he recovered from his miss. Azure took a step back, watching as Callie failed to recalculate her bite and snapped her teeth into the air before his limb. While the pup recovered he reached down with jaws of his own, intending to grab the girl by the rear and hoist her into the air where she would no longer be able to fight his strength.

Calypso anticipated the flesh beneath her jaws, startling as her teeth clacked together hard with nothing between them. She looked up quizzically at her opponent, confusion clear in her face and as she hesitated, her father's jaws neared. She felt them puncture upon her hips and felt her paws begin to leave the ground, bringing panic through her young body. Strategy and tactics went out the window and the pup squirmed violently, aiming to twist her body in his jaws so she could grab upon his vulnerable face with all four paws, where perhaps her tiny but mutated claws could do enough damage that he'd release her.

Azure put just enough pressure upon his teeth that his daughter might feel the sharp sting of pain, but not enough to cause any serious harm as he towed her into the air. He'd meant for her to surrender as soon as she'd felt her paws leave the ground, but the young pup surprised him with her ferocity as she scratched and clawed at his muzzle. Azure's eyes squeezed shut hard against the raking claws, his jaws clamping tighter in warning as the child continued to maul his face. With a flick of his head he shook her, intending to cause her enough discomfort that she might surrender to him before he risked losing an eye to his own damn inherited mutation. One of his own paws lifted, seeking to wrap around the pup's shoulders for an extra reason to force her to release his face.

The pain across Calypso's body became too much as her father's paw wrapped around her. While she was not as small as some (cough, cough, Levi, cough cough) she was not yet large enough to provide any challenge to the direwolf Champion. She squeaked in pain, releasing her claws and teeth from Azure's face and finding that not long after her surrender, he placed her back gently upon the ground. Her small ears pinned against her head, unwilling to look her father in the eye after such a defeat. There was the sound of pawsteps, but when she turned back to look at him again Azure had walked away, leaving her alone in the middle of the vacant arena.
