Beorn had learned a valuable skill. Sorta. By 'learned' he meant he'd been told about it. But it sounded so easy! His dad had told him how to fish and promised to take him and anyone else who wanted out fishing sometime, but then he'd laid down for a nap and now Beorn was bored. He had all these fish hooks and line; it was a shame not to try them out. How hard could it be? Later he could show his dad - he'd be so proud!
Determined to impress his dad, Beorn wandered to the water's edge trailing fishing line behind him. The hook hung perilously close to the corner of his mouth, but he was oblivious to the danger. It was only a little poky. His dad had some super sharp ones made of metal, but this one was made of wood and string - so how dangerous could it be?

Kalyke was jogging along the river's edge, head pointed down as he eyed the silvery shapes below the surface. Fish, plenty of fish and they moved so gracefully down there. Was it that easy to swim? They made it seem even easier than walking with no need to even move legs. At one point he stumbled, ok at several points he stumbled, but through luck, it was never to the edge of the ground and into the water.
He spotted one of the other pups a bit farther ahead and ran up towards him. Might as well get to know them also and, well, the stuff in his mouth and dragging on the ground looked interesting. “What’s this?” His eyes followed a bit of line running through the grass and tried to snap at it with his teeth but it was small and thin and easily avoided his bite.

Kore walks a little way behind his brother and further from the river’s edge, watching wearily as Kal plays close to the water. It seems to have become the galaxy clad pup’s sole mission to keep his clumsy brother alive. While their sister is more than capable of taking care of herself, Kal seems to have trouble follow him everywhere. So, when Kal spies Beorn further up and takes off towards him, the purple pup slowly follows after him… very begrudgingly. It isn’t because Kore doesn’t like Beorn, far from it, in fact. He really enjoys being around the inky pup, it is just that the galaxy hued boy is tired and he would much rather be taking a nap instead of making sure Kal doesn’t drown.
When he gets close, Kore offers the kind pup a huge smile and spies Kal trying to bite at the dangling object, the purple pup rolls his eyes and says, “Kal! Don’t eat Beorn’s things! Besides, if you eat it, he can’t show you how to use it.” Darting a glance to Beorn, Kore raises his eyebrows in an attempt to ask the pup for permission to join him.

"What's this?" came the familiar voice of Kalyke. Beorn turned and then yelped and rushed forward in alarm as he caught sight of his little brother trying to grab the line. "Ooooh nonono," he cried with fluttering paws as he tried to wind the line up out of Kalyke's reach. He scooped a mound of it up and clutched it to his chest, his eyes darting between the two (slightly) younger boys. You know, Kore had a good idea. "Right..." Beorn said slowly as he peered over the tangle of line. "I can't show you if you eat it." He held out the tangle so the boys could see it. "This is fishing line. Dad got it from...somewhere, I dunno where." He set the line down and dug around in the mess for the hook. "And this is the fishing hook. Basically you gotta wiggle the hook around in the water until a fish eats it, then you pull it out of the water."
He glanced at the river and then made the decision to share all he knew with his brothers. It was a no brainer, really. Beorn liked to share both items and knowledge and he couldn't pass up this opportunity to do both, not when there was a chance his brothers would find the concept as interesting as he did!
"Come 'ere," he said as he marched towards the water's edge. "I'll show you. Dad made it sound super easy! I bet we can get lots of fish. Just gotta..." his features settled into a frown as he tried to untangle the line. Boy this thing was a mess! Line went every which way as Beorn made loops and straightened out sections, and then finally - finally - he got a big enough section free and decided to go for it.
With the fish hook hanging out of his mouth by a short piece of line, Beorn said, "Bayshickly ou juss troh da wine ike dis," he threw it out over the water and watched as the hook arced satisfyingly before splashing down a short distance away. The current immediately began to unwind the line at his paws. "And hold onto the line like this," he put both paws on part of the line so it wouldn't get away from him, and then crouched down over it. His voice dropped as though he thought the fish come hear him, "And you wait until you can feel a fish on the line."
