His heavy paw steps left a clear trail behind him in the dirt, claw marks and all as he wasn't bothering to properly pick up his feet. He had no fear about being followed, not even if they meant him harm, as he felt pretty good about his skills to ward off any would-be attackers. He had the scars to prove it. Raylan dipped his head down to sniff at the rich coppery scent of blood where it lay spilled upon an empty patch of dirt. It wasn't the only bloodstain in this place, and he knew enough to know that this was some kind of place where fights took place. Well, if that was the case, he may as well indulge. He tipped his head back to call out for a challenger; anyone would do, he wasn't fussy in the slightest. Big wolf, small wolf, young, old wolf, he didn't care. A fight was a fight, no matter who it was between, but depending on who showed up he'd change his tactics accordingly. Sitting back on his haunches with ears pricked forward, Raylan waited patiently, taking the time to use a front paw to smooth at the ruffled fur on his cheeks. He figured he may as well make himself look more presentable while he waited, not that he was a stickler for a perfect-looking appearance. But it was nice to gussy himself up now and then. |

Veigar hadn't wandered far from home for awhile, not since he'd convinced Aryn to return to Habari. His sight was only growing worse by the day too. Its steady decline continued, more obvious as the weeks went on though he wondered if anything could be done to halt it. So far he hadn't told anyone but Viscera about it and he hoped he wouldn't have to. It was currently still manageable - he could still see things, they were just blurry, and when they were really far away they were really blurry. At least he wasn't worried about losing track of where he was, or even navigating, not yet at least. That was a problem for another day, one he'd figure out when he got there and no sooner.
But until then, he was determined to make up for his waning sight in other ways. He needed to learn to fight properly, against real opponents, not just bouncing practice off kids in Habari. That was why his paws brought him here, to this place stained with blood that reeked of decay. A call to fight reached his ears just in time and he took off, panting by the time he reached the origin of the howl. This stranger was older than him, since he'd just barely turned a year old, but he was ready nonetheless. "You looking to fight?" Veigar asked, tilting his head as he fixed his pale stare on the stranger, trying to focus on his crisp red eyes but watching them remain unfocused even as he drew a few steps closer.

It didn't take long for someone to show up, running up to him and panting heavily enough that a soft chortle escaped him. Was this wolf really so excited for the prospect of a fight that he ran all the way here? The eyes of the wolf were a pale yellow, almost completely white in the sunlight, but the rest of the wolf seemed fairly normal in appearance. Raylan dipped his head in response, a wide smile gracing his features. "Aye lad." And this wolf sure looked young. If he had to guess he'd say under two years, but he was never very good at pinpointing the exact age of someone else. Wasting no time, Raylan squared up his stance, setting his paws firmly into the dusty ground as his red gaze flitted over the other wolf. They were large, not nearly as large as him, but enough so that he had to worry about getting tipped over if they got into a grapple. He flicked his ears back against his head and tucked his chin down to his chest, staring directly at his opponent. "No rules other than both of us need to be able to walk away from this fight," he said in a slightly more serious tone, softened a bit by the happy expression on his face. Taking in a deep breath to settle himself, he suddenly charged forward towards the smaller wolf, ducking his head as he aimed to ram his shoulder into their chest, or at least their opposing shoulder if the wolf was fast enough to dodge the worst of the hit. Veigar gave a murmur of acknowledgment as the stranger greeted him, giving a brief nod. They didn't waste much time getting into things, Raylan instinctively hunkering down as he sized him up. He mirrored his stance, his own movements more intentional rather than something that came naturally. "Sounds good to me," Veigar agreed easily. At the very least he had to make his way back home. He was more interested in practicing his fighting techniques than going all-out, and he hoped his opponent had the same thing in mind.
Suddenly Raylan charged toward him, and his instinct was indeed to dive away from him. Veigar jerked to his own left with a quick step, and as expected Raylan's head rammed hard into his right shoulder. It made him stumble, though he managed to stay upright, pushing his own slighter weight hard into Raylan's attack. His jaws unhinged slightly and he made to rotate his hindquarters to the left, hoping to sink his fangs into the crook of Raylan's neck, where it met his shoulder, putting his weight into it.
