I'm Tired of Looking for Answers

Birna squared off against a large crab, her whiskers flicking forward as she examined the strange creature. It looked to be some sort of food. She was certain she could eat it if she could just figure out the best way to kill it. Birna knew her time was limited. A thick layer of clouds blanketed the sky, offering her some shade from the sun but it was likely to start storming at any minute.

Her ears flicked back at a strange sound. She looked away from the crab to see a pair of hyenas wandering across the beach. She'd never seen a hyena before, all she thought was that they were some strange form of canine. Birna tenses as the hyena's focused on her. Her ears went back and she hissed.


Speech

Scylla had managed to get herself away from Fenmyre, sight unseen. It was easy to make the adults forget that she existed and she used that to her advantage. Once across the water, the small girl hightailed it to the cove. She'd gone there a few times, hoping to catch sight of Birna again. The cat was interesting and new and Scylla didn't think she'd try to eat her or anything.

As she rounded a curve in the rock, Scylla was delighted to see that Birna actually was there. She was also excited to see that there were two hyenas hemming the feline in. Oh great! Scylla knew all about hyenas since she'd killed a few with Kione. As the leopard hissed, Scylla snuck up behind one of the dog things and leaped onto its rump. She bit into its hip and gave it a kick before leaping off and skittering across the sandy landscape, trying to give Birna a little space to move into more even footing.

Birna eyed the hyenas, watching them carefully and hoping they'd heed her warning but it didn't seem she'd get that lucky. If anything the hyena's seemed more intent to get in her space and attack. Drat. Her hind legs bunched beneath her as she prepared to spring but before she attacked she recognized the young wolf she'd met before on the cove. She watched as the young wolf darted forward and bit one of the hyenas on the rear. It quickly turned to attack as did its partner and the moment the second hyena turned, Birna leapt and landed on its back, fangs digging into the back of its neck as he claws sank into its sides. Screeching the hyena fell to the ground at the sudden weight and flailed as it tried to reach her.


Speech

The hyena gave chase and Scylla used the tide pools much like she had the time before with the lion. Keeping the pools between herself and the thing that wanted to munch her face was a pretty good tactic. The girl gave a whoop of support as Birna leaped onto the other hyena's back, but couldn't spare much more attention. Around and around she ran with her own hyena. The beast was getting rather frustrated at the game and soon gave up on the girl to go help its packmate. "Hey!" Scylla yelled out as the hyena abandoned her. A frown pulled at the girls face and she huffed before running up behind the hyena to give it a little poke in the haunch with her knife. Once again, its attention was on her rather than Birna.

Birna was surprised by the strange creatures strength as it managed to stay standing with her weight upon its back, at least at first. As the hyena spasmed and flailed it fell to the side, pinning her right arm beneath its body. Her hind legs kicked violently out, back claws shredding and shocking the hyena as she used her left front leg to pull the creature back enough that she could seize its throat. It screeched and gurgled before falling dead from her jaws. During the struggle the other hyena heard the suffering of its comrade and charged for her stopping as it was sharply poked in the rear by the pup. As the hyena's attention shifted Birna once more seized the opportunity, leaping for the hyena and wrapping her arms around its neck, claws digging in as her fangs latched onto the right side of its face.


Speech

So she'd poked the hyena with her knife and it was looking straight at her. Now what? The girl kind of grimaced and took a few steps back, unsure of her next line of attack. Thankfully, she didn't have to think of one. While she kept the hyena distracted, the big cat rushed it, wrapping her legs around it with her teeth in its face. Oh yeah, now Scylla knew what to do. Running forward, the girl used her knife yet again, slicing into the hyena's throat which sent a shower of blood spattering over slate fur, but she didn't care.

The girl hopped back and watched as the hyena's strength waned and it soon was dead alongside its comrades. Sitting beside one tidepool, the girl's long, silken tail swishes over the sand and rocks. "Good job, Birna. That was a lot of fun." Mismatched eyes crinkled as she grinned.
