He made his way across the Field, fire-and-ice gaze scanning the rolling hills that had seen many events that changed the course of Boreas’ history. Pack challenges, death matches, challenges to take members of other packs by force. His own grandfather had fought - and won - against a challenger for Valhalla, then named Celestial, shortly after returning home to bury his mother and lay Erani and Cormalin’s remains to rest where they had truly belonged, home.
The Long Night and all it had brought with it had thinned the numbers. While Eramaya and her children would come soon and help to fill the pack out, for the children it would likely be temporary. They needed wolves that would be steadfast members, settle down and start their own families and legacies in Valhalla.
Ardyn came to a stop on what looked to be the tallest hill; it at least had a good, territorial view of the lands around him, with only the deepest hollows among the rolling hills being out of his range of sight.
A ring of stones suggested it was a place for battles where the one to step outside the ring by accident forfeit his or her fight, and he stood at the center as he tipped his muzzle to the sky and sang of reverberating call for those with ambition to work hard and rise, and a desire to settle in a pack.
Patiently, he let his haunches lower to the ground, tail flicking in a learned habit to take the long hair out from beneath him before he ended up sitting on it. He was fully armored and cloaked, bracers disguising his long digits at a glance unless someone was looking closely for the unusual.
Lyr dropped to perch in the branches of a nearby, gnarled oak, head swiveling, mismatched eyes alert.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
Vulcan had been a lone wolf for quite a bit, after his birth pack falling, falling right when he was about to fight for it throne. What a shame but life went on, and by now he didnt care about that anymore, he was still him and he was willing to look for a place of his own to settle in. The long night as he had heard others call the time when there was no day, just night. But even though it was such an scary moment, for him it wasnt. Well he did admit it was beyond natural , but he felt nothing but curiosity and simply sheltered him on caves and staying away from public eyes, but he now looked for a place to grow ad perhaps set roots.
She arrived to the battle fields, knowing this could be a good start point for that, and there silver eyes landed on a weird looking wolf. He approached but still respectfully stopping. "Would you like a casual spar?" He asked wanting to give the stranger the first move. "" |

A flash of crimson brought his eyes toward the figure, ears idly perking. The other young man was tall and heavily made, dark in front and brightest on the tail. He was easily the same height as Ardyn could recall his grandfather being, and as with most glimpses of bright red, Regulus was on his mind before he set the fond, bittersweet memories aside and regarded the young male as a King would.
A fighter for sure, perhaps a hunter, built for the takedown after the coursers had driven the bison into a trap. From what Ardyn could see, the other male was alone, without companions or fellow wolves. He wasn’t certain, however, if the man mistook his song for one of an invitation to spar or did indeed understand the call to recruitment.
“Perhaps. I am Ardyn Adravendi, Ard Rí – or High King – of Valhalla, a pack in the west. Are you answering my call, in hopes of a home? Or simply the spar?”
Gradated fire and ice eyes studied the other male’s dark features from within the glowing mask of markings he'd developed as he spoke, accented words flowing in a rich rumble over the title he bore, and Lyr watched with an equal intensity from the branches above, waiting to see if there would be a spar.
True, Ardyn was fully armed and armored, so he wouldn’t dismiss a spar out of hand, especially if this fellow was looking for a fighting related rank in the pack.

He waited for the male's response, someone of an unique shape and attributes, maned like a lion, fangs like a saber tooth, and glowing like an star. That certainly was new, brand new on what he had seen in his short but substantial life. Well the long night brought mushroomed creatures, some even with crystals growing like plants, and blueish like oil from nose and ears. But this individual was strange on its own way. But he didnt let that coward him from the potential of a good fight and even a home as the male offered. "Im Vulcan Praetor and Ill take on the combo." Going for both, an spar and perhaps a home.
Being those the only words to offer, it was time for the practical test yeah? He didn't have a ton of experience on his pocket but if this male gave him green light to join "valhalla" he hopped to learn during his time there. And like that he rushed to the male's left hoping to form a T with Ardyn at the top but with the plus of trying to target his hips, with a mane so long it would be useless to target that area. And like that he aimed to wrap his two fore legs around the male's hips, aiming to den bite wherever he could reach. Vulcan vs Ardyn for spar Round 1/? Praetor. The name rang a bell, but he set it aside, noting the man – Vulcan – seemed to also have an interest in a spar and was intending to start on right away. Alright, then.
He settled smoothly and swiftly into a balanced stance, watching the other man’s body and eyes. As Vulcan sought to circle to Ardyn’s own left, the young King pivoted his hips to his own right in the moment the other male arrowed in at his hips and twisted on his forepaws, seeking to bring himself into a 90-degree angle with Vulcan, evading the man’s forelegs and teeth with the movements he made.
He pushed off and sought to ram the man in the left hip, simultaneously reaching forward with h is left forepaw and aiming to grab Vulcan’s left hind leg by the hock from the inside while his own left front paw lifted to reach for Vulcan’s right hind leg, weight shifting back to his hind end as he sought a grip with which he could jerk the man’s hind legs toward himself, to Vulcan’s right in tandem with his chest slam, seeking to topple him to the ground.
He kept a close watch on the man’s front end from the corner of his eye as he fought, assessing both the style and experience of the male and watching for the next attack or counterattack.
Whether he’d take Vulcan in remained to be seen; Vulcan could end up not finding Valhalla’s structure and culture to his tastes, and Ardyn had no intentions of accepting the man until he’d learned a decent amount about the pack and was able to make an informed decision to join or decline.
