can we hunt this too?

Perched at the edge of the shore on Manatee Bay, the splotched boy watched the waters carefully. While his expanding net was doing its work catching smaller fish, there was one sea animal that was smart enough to avoid it. Their loud clicking noises chattered in the morning air as Kuroo squinted at them. They weren't like the large boulder animals they'd seen and they weren't quite like sharks or whales either. Smooth and grey with little holes on their backs, Kuroo was more than curious about hunting one down. Tilting his chin up to the sky to call for his brother, he hoped his grumpy sibling would have a good idea on how to snag one or two.

Usagi rose with the sun, or rather, with his brother more like. The warmth of his sibling left him quickly and soon he was cold, jumpstarting the typical crabby outlook he maintained. Still, knowing Kuroo would be out fishing by the bay, the koi took his duties closer to the inland, patrolling the bamboo maze he was getting familiar with each day. He was well on his way to being able to navigate the entirety of it, able to pick out the most subtle of landmarks to indicate his location and proximity. It was with this knowledge Usagi was able to weave his way through the green-stalked expanse at his brother’s familiar call, trotting briskly towards the bay. He didn’t mind it terribly, given the waters were calmer than the ocean’s choppy, unsteady waves. However, as it stands, he despised fishing regardless of its location. But if his brother so wished, he’d do it. Barely containing a slight roll of his eyes, the grumpy male approached Roo with a slight quirk of his brow.
"What did you call me all this way for? You’re the expert fisherman, aren’t you-" Usagi’s typical snippy remark was cut off as his attention was directed towards the odd trilling of the strange grey..fish? That were clicking and flipping and twirling about like oversized grey worms. Something about them was so odd - whether it was their holes on their heads or the strange noises they made, he soon realized why Roo would’ve even bothered to call him over. "So..you want to hunt these guys? Are they even..edible?" He said, moreso as an outward observation as he quizzically glanced at the streamlined creatures. Then again..they were a decent size, and appeared to be some kind of fish. Though not anything he’d ever seen, he supposed he could assist his brother in hunting one. He splayed his toes in the sandbank, glancing over to Kuroo as if allowing him to take a step forward. He’d support him, or even defend him, should these creatures show any hint of aggression - though their lackadaiscal demeanor towards anything made that possibility unlikely.

His brother's initial reaction upon getting to the bay was as expected. Kuroo knew all too well that Usagi wasn't much for fishing. A mischievous smile danced across his lips as the realization clicked on his brother's face. "Just because I can catch fish in a net doesn't mean I know how to handle these," he replied with a laugh as his own pale gaze turned back to the clicking creatures dancing about in the water. Watching the way the twirled and jumped, his curiosity grew. "Not sure if they're edible, but won't know till we get one," there is humor in his tone as he looks back to his brother.
Kuroo's toes dug into the sand as he nodded back. Taking the lead, he stepped carefully into the chilly depths until he was chest-deep. By now, the creatures had noticed them and tried to keep their distance at first. Beady eyes watched the brothers as Kuroo swam a bit closer. Trying to keep quiet for now, he waited until one was close enough. Darting forward with mouth open, Kuroo aimed to grab onto a tail. Squirming and loud clicking disturbing the waters, he held on for dear life. Hoping his brother would hop in to help, he received a few bites to the shoulder as he tried to swim back closer to shore.

Usagi hummed in acknowledgement to Kuroo’s statements. He didn’t care much for his outgoing persona, but he appreciated his honesty. These creatures were odd, and foreign, and neither of them knew exactly what they did..or if they were even edible. Usagi watched as Kuroo dug back into the sand of the bay and then plodded into the depths of the waters, soon disappearing into the soft, lapping waves to try and catch one of those creatures. Obviously, the koi wasn’t about to leave Kuroo hanging - he swiftly entered the frigid pool as well, cringing slightly as the water reached to his neck.
Forcing himself to paddle deeper, he soon saw Kuroo dive at one of the clicking grey creatures, the rest of the pod having swam off at the presence of the two brothers. It seemed they didn’t wish to fight back, much like many herbivores they’d hunted on land. However, upon noticing with alarm that the dolphin Kuroo latched on to was beginning to fight back with bites to his shoulder, he didn’t hesitate to protect his sibling. Launching himself at the grey creature in the piebald boy’s grasp, he wouldn’t let their meal get away, but he wouldn’t let his brother get more injured, first and foremost. Quickly putting himself in between the creature’s toothy maw and his brother’s shoulder, he snarled at it, bubbles rising from his maw as he swiftly snapped down on the creature’s bottle neck snout, shaking it vigorously. Almost vilently and angrily so, given that this animal had deeply offended him by putting his family in harm’s way. Having gotten the grey animal’s mouth under control, he’d given Kuroo enough berth to approach its other side or backside to help finish it off.

Before the dolphin could reach around to snap, he felt the water move with the force of his brother shifting through the water. Thankful that Usagi had come to his aid, Kuroo released the dolphin's tail for a moment. Gasping for a breath of air just above the surface, he dived back down and turned back toward the head. Excitement coursed through him as the dolphin's energy began to dissipate. With its mouth shut close by the force of Usagi's bite, this was Kuroo's chance. Swimming forward over the dolphin's back, Kuroo dove down and grasped his jaws around the back of the dolphin's neck. Using all the force he could to puncture through the slimy skin of the creature, he wrapped his paws around the dolphin's shoulders. Digging in his claws for a better hold, he shook his head until he felt the undeniable snap of the aquatic animal's spinal cord. It was almost instant that the dolphin stopped moving and began to float upward.
Struggling for breath, he moved off of the dolphin and grabbed onto a fin. "Gotta get it to shore," he gasped through waterlogged breaths toward his brother. Accomplishment gleaming in his eyes, he helped Usagi drag the creature to shore where it lay still and bleeding. Resting his tired body for a second, he looked the thing over curiously. Eager to know how it would taste later, he also hoped that Hattori would be proud of their hard work.

It was within moments that Kuroo stepped in - and he was thankful his brother hadn’t gotten hurt. Seeing the piebald male take a breath from the surface, he did the same, diving down as his brother snapped the creature’s spine and ultimately finished it off. It bobbed to the surface then, and with that, he and Kuroo managed to drag it ashore. He grabbed a fin on the other side and hauled it onto the bank, and they finally made it as their catch was laid out on the sand. It was an odd, rubbery thing, and he wondered briefly if the effort into killing it was worth it - did it have meat like a fish, too? It didn’t have scales, so it further confused him. He paused before shaking off his pelt, torrent of water surrounding him before he glanced back down at the bloodied animal, then at his brother. "You did well," He sakd, casting his gaze onto Kuroo. With a pause to poke his nail into the dolphin’s slippery hide, he added, "It should feed several mouths, hopefully. Provided it doesn’t taste weird or anything." He was still suspicious about it, but then again, they bother were. It wasn’t a creature they’d encountered much before, if at all. Still, they worked hard to earn this catch, and he hoped Kuroo was proud. Most of all, he was glad Kuroo was safe - he knew he wouldn’t forgive himself if the man had gotten bit by this grey creature.
