several ways to skin a cat

Now that the children were more independent and capable of sitting still for some measure of time, Hattori thought it prudent to extend a lesson of his own. To pass on what he knew to those who cared to learn and listen. Regardless of their homeland. they had Iga roots and thus it was only fair Hattori did his part in sharing both the culture and know-how that came along with wolves of his kin.
Rising from his tatami mat, Hattori made his way through the Bamboo Maze, following well trodden paths as his gaze roved the scenery. They had already long left their mark on this place, carved out shortcuts and gaps through the walls only in sight to those who knew where to look. It wasn't as difficult to navigate as one might think and to an extent that was the point. They were meant to live here, no other people could claim it quite like Iga wolves could.
Slowing to a standstill, Hattori arrived at the training area. A cleared open expanse that provided ample room to move about. Training supplies were stacked neatly at the edges, basic medical equipment and buckets of fresh rain water. Content with its state, that the last person who used it had tided up after themselves, Hattori tipped his head back and announced a training session, for both adults and pups alike. Whoever wanted to attend was welcome to do so.

Sitting still was a bit of a stretch for Tato. Really, if the pup wasn't fidgeting and squirming, it was pretty likely that he was asleep. Still, he wanted to learn things. He wanted to learn how he could do better when he play-fought with his siblings. In his mind, there wasn't much beyond play... little did the boy know, soon it would be far more than that. For now, the round little puppy, with his floppy joints and too-big paws would simply enjoy life as it was. Learning was cool, but maybe not the end all, be all. More important than learning was getting to do things. Potato likes to do things.
The call that came from the training area wasn't Ma. Weird, who would be calling for them that... wasn't their mother? A bit of a furrow to his brows, Potato pounced forwards. He'd make his way in that direction, and rather excitedly at that. It was really cool that Ma was teaching them, but the idea that there was another adult for Tato topester learn from? Heck yeah! Confidently, the young boy bounced towards the training area.
He crossed the boundary, tail wagging, and pounced to where Hattori stood. It was maybe a bit too close to be polite, but hopefully he's still small enough that the act is a charming one. "What're we doin'?" He had to crane his neck upwards to look the man in the face, but that was okay. Really, Potato was just excited-- a fact that could be read in every ounce of his body language.

Hattori peered down at the little lumbering spud that toddled at his paws. It was hard to say where he got his brown coat from, Sedna perhaps? Though these days her form wasn't nearly as mundane as it used to be, all faded like distant galaxies. Regardless, this litter was bound to be more trouble than it was worth given their parentage. The sooner Hattori made his expectations clear, the better.
"Has your Father told you anything about where he is from? How we fight?" He uttered in the common tongue, unsure of how fluent they were in Nihon speak. He intended to teach the child regardless, felt as though it was part of his duty, but he wanted to know what-if anything- he already knew. Other than ankle biting, of course.

Mundane looking as he is, and maybe the most mundane of his siblings, and still the pup will never have that hard a time standing out. It's true though, Potato will soon grow to be far, far more trouble than he's worth. Not yet, but soon. Chaos lives in his bones, but it would only come forward in time. For now he stands well within Hattori's personal space, looking up at him with as much charm as a small child could muster. His tail wags, attentive, processing each and every one of the man's words in turn. He speaks differently than Ma does, the syllables accented and crisp. While it should be easier to understand than their mother's speech, it takes Potato a moment to sort out exactly what the alpha is asking him.
"Uhhhh not yet," slowly he tilts his head to one side, then the other. "Ma taught us some fightin' stuff though, 's fun!" A smile on his face, and excitement lighting up his features. For now it's the childlike eagerness that seems to take Tate over. He peers up at Hattori expectantly, pleased with the idea that he's going to learn more from the man. Pleased, pleased as ever, really.

So Sedna had taken it upon herself then? Hattori couldn't say he was overly surprised, she'd been in the Armada once and had no doubt received a degree of fight training. It made sense she'd pass on what she knew to her children, but really shouldn't it be Raijin's responsibility? No doubt the Kaicho would be having words with his cousin soon enough. Till then Hattori intended on doing his part, passing on what he knew to the next generation and was pleased the little pup already seemed to have an affinity for it.
"Good." He nodded and took a step back, giving the pup ample space to move about. "Then show me, if I was to try and bite your ears what would you do?" It was a decent enough place to start, a position in which Tate could start thinking about his actions ahead of time. But more than that, it was even better to learn how to think fast on his paws, to adapt to situations he didn't see coming.
