Quick Quack
Arcturus

Vanille had come around to see Arcturus a couple times a week and it seemed to be extending to more often. She was enjoying the time they spent together, whether that was fishing or hunting or crafting things. She was getting more used to his presence especially after being so secluded for a long time of her life. She wasn't so quick to fall into trust with him, at least with the more sensitive subjects about her life yet. But they were getting to know each other slowly.
With Arcturus moving into Elysium it didn't make her want to stall her time away from him. She could admit it felt a little weird standing at a border now and calling for him there, but maybe it made her just that much more excited to see him. Still, she was not ready to fully drop her rather uneventful life to consider joining him in Elysium or anywhere else. It was more a subject she chose to divert from.
She called for him at the Elysium border and waited for him to join her. Once he did, she took him out to the lake that was nearby more so on a wandering walk rather than anywhere with a goal. It seemed better just to get comfortable with him beside her, and she would keep it just like that. She couldn't help a little smile anytime she glanced towards him though. She mostly kept her eyes forward on their unmarked path instead.
As the lake made view and they approached the bank of it, Vanille didn't stop there. Her paws kept moving around the lake bend. Her gaze moved out into the waters spotting the ducks that floated just over the surface, aware but not worried about the wolves on the shore. Vanille wasn't one to just kill for the hell of it, but she would need something to eat later tonight. Looking to Arcturus, she questioned him lightly, "Have you ever hunted ducks before?" They didn't have any supplies to make a trap, but she may have had something in mind.

Moving into Elysium had been unexpected and a bit sudden, but once his mother explained the reasoning behind it he did understand and agree with he reasoning. Winter would be here soon and having somewhere to be like a pack where they could work together with the other wolves to hunt and stay warm made sense logically. He wasn't entirely sure he liked the idea of being around other wolves like this again, especially when he didn't have the excuse of them being family to justify it, but he wasn't willing to leave his mother or sister to avoid the other wolves so here in the pack he stayed—at least for now. He wasn't sure what he would feel like doing once they reached the end of the winter. Separating from his family to go his own way didn't feel quite right, but it almost seemed like that's what his mother was expecting him to do. To grow up, be an adult, find his own path, chose what he wanted to spend his time doing. It did all seem like this he should want to do and maybe at some point in his life he would have had aspirations of doing all of those things, but right now he could only really focus on going one day at a time and seeing where that day took him.
One bright spot in his days had been the visits from Vanille. He found himself eagerly waiting to see if she would come find him or call for him now that he was spending the majority of his time within Elysium's borders and feeling a bit disappointed when she didn't. They steadily began to spend more and more time together with hunting and crafting becoming a center point of their activities. It was a common interest for the two of them and it was of course something he had enjoyed very much for pretty much his whole life, but secretly it also helped him ensure that she at least had a good meal when they were together and it helped ease his worried mind when he was able to make sure she was cared for before they went their separate ways at the end of the day. If he couldn't be with her all of the time he could at least make sure that when they were together he could do a little something at least to help. She was a very capable hunter in her own right, but it was the same way he felt about his mother and sister. They were also very capable of taking care of themselves and were excellent at many things, but he couldn't help himself when it came to wanting to take care of them and protect them.
Arcturus was lingering near the borders while he waited for Vanille's call and he grinned as soon as he heard it, heading out to the border to meet up with her. He easily fell into step beside her as she began to lead him away from the pack and toward the near by lake, wandering a bit together while they enjoyed each other's company. Around anyone else he tended to feel anxious, but with Vanille it was easier to relax at her side while stealing little smiles and glances. Once they reached the lake he continued to follow her lead as she guided them around the lake. He wasn't paying much attention to it, mostly just paying attention to Vanille, but when she questioned him about whether or not he had hunted ducks he looked up toward the surface of the water to look at the water fowl in question. He gave a small tip of his head while he thought back over all of the things he had hunted before giving a shake of his head. "No, I don't think I have. Have you?" Usually he would go for something like deer or maybe fish. Birds always felt like too much work unless they just so happened to be somewhere easy to catch. Ducks out on the water seemed like they'd be difficult to get to, but if she knew how to hunt them he was certainly all ears.

With a glance to Arcturus, she hinted a smile as she looked out at the water where the ducks resided. She motioned with the pull of her head before stalking further away towards the tall cattails of the lake. They stayed on the bank for now, but they'd probably both be getting wet here soon. She was just trying to get them a little further away from the ducks so they could talk and the ducks would be calm by the time they made their way back around.
Laying behind the cattails, Vanille started. "So, obviously ducks can fly. I'd usually try to catch them with a net or it's at least easier when you are on dry ground and they hide in the shrubbery." Vanille was typically quieter, but she definitely leaned more on a scholar side. She was happy to share an experience with Arcturus. She had a lot of learning to do herself too. Maybe they'd be able to do something new together one day.
"They don't tend to fly off unless you pose a real threat. So I think you should wait here in the cattails and I'll go out and wade in the water to get them over here. It's a bit of a slow process, I'll have to move slowly in to them otherwise they'll fly away." Vanille didn't jump up eagerly, she wanted to make sure Arcturus was for the plan before pursuing or assuming. If he was up for the hunt she would get up to go around the lake to walk into the water a fair distance from the ducks.
Once she was out in the water, she was quiet and gentle in her steps. She tried her best to stay on the floor of the lake, but there came a time where she had to paddle through the water. She was pretty small after all. Still, her movements seemed to come with ease even if she struggled to keep herself fluid with the water. She kept her eyes on the ducks, watching as they started to paddle away from her. She was moving in a zig zag trail around the lake because she didn't want to be too suspicious by heading straight towards them.
The little ducks ahead of her were quacking as she drew closer and they fluttered their tails and drifted off in the direction she wanted them, towards Arcturus. and soon enough they'd be there close enough to the cattails ready for the taking. She shook her head to hint to Arcturus that she wasn't ready. She wanted to wait until she was close enough to grab her own. He would need to be ready to jump up and catch one had they scattered and flew. Once she was close enough, she nodded her head with her eyes still on the ducks ahead of her before leaping forward and going for only one. When she had the neck in her jaws, instantly killing the duck, she looked to Arcturus with a smile, maybe hoping he was impressed.
