With the race completed she moved on to getting the fishing tournament up and running. The big melee fight would be the last event of the festival since it seemed like that was the thing that everyone was the most excited about and would be the be big finale to the whole festival. The fishing tournament still had a good turnout though and she was already taking notes for how to make their next festival even better, making note of what kind of events the others seemed to like and which ones they didn't. She got out all of the nets, fishing poles, bait, and spears that she had crafted and collected in preparation for this and set out a large bucket for each participant to put their catches into. She had to make a quick trip up to their supply stores to grab a couple extra buckets, but with that she was ready.
She gathered up the wolves that had volunteered to participate, her brother and Kichi among them, and had them line up around the shore of the lake. She had secretly been feeding and stocking their lake over the last month or two to make sure there was plenty of fish to be had for the contest. There were mostly newer faces in this group including Jane and Fern from the Auster dwelling pack that she seemed to recall occupying a castle, the golden-furred young man that had joined their pack recently named Arcturus, and his friend named Vanille. She was repeating all of these names to herself frequently as the festival continued to try and learn them all, but there were far more new wolves to meet than she had even anticipated. "The rules are simple!" she called out so all the participants could hear. "Catch as many fish as you can before the time runs out! There are nets, poles, spears, and bait for you to pick from, but the method is entirely up to you!" She gave them a moment to decide what they wanted to do and get ready and then she started counting them down. "Ready? On three... One... Two... Three!"

Saracyn approached the rocky shore of Alias Lake, glancing out at the clear waters shimmering in the winter sun. He had chosen to join the fishing competition for two main reasons: he really loved fishing, and he was very familiar with this lake. He'd spent months training with his raptors by its shore, catching fish from it for seasons. If there was anyone here amongst this motley crew of fisher wolves that had a home field advantage, it was him. Once everyone had arrived and was ready, Avacyn announced the rules. Catch as many fish as you could with whatever methods you chose. Sara nodded; simple enough. His sister gave the countdown, and once the contest began, Sara let out a sharp whistle and ran for the supplies, snatching up a spear in his jaws just as his raptors swooped down from a pine tree nearby. He gave a motion of his head and the avians glided out over the lake, scanning through the water to find clusters of fish and diving down for them as Saracyn followed their movements and dashed into the shallow water, lancing his spear towards any movement his keen eyes caught.

Excitement buzzes in the air as wolves gather along the shore of the lake that rests inside Elysium borders. Fern is among the wolves that await the start of the fishing tournament and she looks back to where the spectators are. Spying Rudyard’s gray form in the huddle, she offers him a huge smile and eager wave before turning back to look at Avacyn. The purple wolf lays out the rules which are simple enough to follow and gives the count down. Once she reaches three, Fern begins to move toward the supplies, faltering for a moment when Saracyn whistles for his birds. However, she quickly recovers and arrives at the supplies just as the red and black boy runs off with a spear.
Offering Jane an encouraging smile, Fern gathers a net, spear, and a bucket of bait before trotting off down the shoreline. She finds a spot that is away from the other contestants and where she can see fish braking the surface of the water. Setting her equipment down, she takes a health scoop of bait and tosses it out into the water. Putting the scoop back into the bucket, Fern then carefully spreads out the net and makes sure there are no tangles. Satisfied, she moves to the water’s edge with the net and tosses it as far out onto the lake as she can while keeping the loose ends in her mouth to pull the net back toward her. She sets to work chumming the water and tossing the net out and pulling it in to catch what she can.

Kichi wasn’t a fan of being around a bunch of strangers. He’d avoided the feast, offering instead to patrol the border to keep an eye out for any trouble. The idea of fighting the other wolves in some melee where he had to play nice hadn’t sounded as if it would be fun, not compared to a real fight. In an attempt to participate in some fashion he’d reluctantly decided to sign up for the fishing contest.
Kichi was still growing in his hunting skills but to be honest he hadn’t bothered much with fishing. He had imagined just catching the fish in his mouth but with the items laid out the silver and white wolf figured he might try using one of the poles. At the count of three, he jogged over to grab a pole and slide into the shallow water's edge, feeling the water sliding over the top of his paws.
Kichi considered his new tactic of choice and while the task was to catch as many as possible he decided to take his time, not stabbing for every fish but the carefully aiming jab at the fish that seemed larger than others, hoping to have better luck with larger targets to jab at.

When Vanille was invited to the festival, she didn't really know how to feel. She had spent so long in solitude and only more recently with Arcturus that being around this many others was overwhelming. She was able to manage though. She was quite reserved and quiet, and that wouldn't change. She'd only flash smiles at Arcturus when they were together, here she had to play the game on her own.
Once Avacyn instructed them with the rules and counted down, Vanille made her way to the supplies grabbing a couple nets and a single pole, of course leaving things for others to use. It took her longer to get her things together, but she figured it would be worth it in the end. She quickly tied the two nets together and then one end to the pole before heading out into the waters. Sticking her pole into a softer part of the bottom of the lake, she finally made her attempt to fish. With her pole anchored into the ground, she walked out in a wide circle of her own radius and then moved inwards. The only thing she hadn't considered was getting the fish back to land so... She'd have to only carry a couple at a time if she caught any. She'd hook a corner of her net to the pole to keep whatever fish she had caught inside the net before heading back towards land to deposit a couple if that's what she had.

Arcturus hadn't planned on participating in any of the events as the festival came into full swing, but since Vanille had come and had volunteered for the fishing tourney he convinced himself he should join in as well. If nothing else, it gave him an activity to do with her in a way and made him feel like he was being a part of this pack that he had joined—at least for now. He settled in with Vanille to wait for the event to begin and then listened attentively while Avacyn explained the rules. It was easy to understand and he looked curiously toward all the supplies that had been offered to them with a hum while he came up with his strategy. He ended up with one of the nets and when they were permitted to get started he waded out into the lake until the water was just up past his stomach and then he cast out the net and started slowly walking back toward the shore, hopefully scooping up any fish that might be found in the shallows of the lake.

Avacyn watched as everyone took their places with their various tools and began their fishing. As soon as she saw Sara with his raptors she realized she should have specified that they weren't supposed to enlist the help of their companions, but it was too late now and since it wasn't technically against the rules she just let him do it with a sigh. She meandered up and down the lake shore, watching as they began to bring in the fish and starting to take tally of what they had caught so far. Luckily the buckets were fairly large and the fish weren't all that big so she didn't think that they would have any issues with their buckets over flowing, but it did occur to her that she probably should have had some extras on hand just in case. Ah well, lessons learned for next year.
Rolls:
Fern: 6
Vanille: 4
Jane: 6
Kichi: 5
Saracyn: 5
Arcturus: 5

Her net began to move, and there she knew she had caught something! She began to pull her net, wanting to see how many fish she managed to catch. "One, two, three , four, five, six!" She muttered to herself as each one she counted was quickly placed out and left by her paws. Ears forward and a bright expression, she was enjoying this chance to have a break from her everyday life and have fun along others winning or not she didnt mind.
After she had her net clean again, she would repeat the actions, tossing it aiming to do so further into the lake. As she waited she turned her eyes to see the other contenders, smiling to see many new faces and enjoying aswell.

As expected, pulling her fish out of the spiral net and walking them to shore was paying the price and she was at the bottom of the bunch. She couldn't tell that however as her main focus was getting the fish to the pail and then going for another spin around with her crafted net. Once she emptied the fish from her spun net she unwound it and stretched it out in radius again. It was too late to go for another method, and unfortunately all the nets were being used. At least she was participating and trying to have a little fun. She didn't get to do things like this often. Actually never. She had never been around this many wolves or experienced games like this before.

Fern slowly pulls the net toward her, smiling when she sees flapping tails breach the surface. Once the net reaches shore, the gray girl carefully picks out her catches and tosses them into the provided bucket. Humming softly to herself, she returns to her bait bucket to toss out another healthy scoop of chum before returning the net to the water. Blue eyes catch sight of Avacyn as the purple wolf patrols the beach and the gray girl offers her a huge smile before returning her attention to the net. Just like before, Fern slowly pulls the net in hoping to ensnare more the hungry fish in the lake.

Kichi’s idea is working well enough in catching the fish with hardly ever missing with his jabs. The trick was the time it took to find the perfect fish and then toss them into the bucket. He’d felt pretty good about himself on the first fish he tossed from the pole landing in the bucket of water. Two fish he tried to toss from the pole landed nowhere near the bucket and one had refused to even fly off the spear he’d jabbed them with. Before one of the fish could get back into the water he had to take them all to the bucket and pull the one off his spear.
Kichi couldn’t take time to see how the others were doing and waded back in the water. There were certain things that slowed him down but overall he was catching fish and it was late to change tactics now. Hopefully, he was doing better than the others.

Arcturus gathered up the corners of the net as he began to drag it back in, feeling a bit of weight on it as he walked it back to shore. As he pulled it onto the beach and unfolded the net, he had to pick a few twigs and plant life out of it and toss those out of the way to uncover all of the flopping fish he had reeled in. By the time he got them all in the bucket that was provided for him there were five moderate to small fish inside. Normally he wouldn't have bothered with smaller fish like these, but the contest wasn't to see who could catch the biggest fish. It was to see how many they could catch. With that in mind, he left them and gathered up his net again. He moved down just a bit to a slightly different portion of the lake shore and repeated the process again. Since it seemed to work well the first time he might as well give it another go!

Thwack!
With a satisfying sound, Saracyn's spear neatly impaled through a fish, pinning it in place and killing it instantaneously. Unfortunately he'd missed hitting any more, but hey, one was better than none! Besides he looked up as he retrieved his spear and saw both Vindr and Veior bursting from the water with two fish a piece. He grinned and nodded his approval to his companions. A total of five fish had been caught for him, and as he returned their carcasses to the shore, he noticed that several others had caught the same amount he had—two of them even had six! Saracyn scowled; this wouldn't do at all! He whistled to his raptors and motioned to the lake again. "C'mon, Vindr, Veior! Double time!" The birds screeched in response and dove back into the lake while Saracyn once more ran along the shallows, spotting another cluster not too far off and hurling his spear at them. This time though, the young wolf also dove in face first after any fleeing fish, determined to catch as many as he could and thrash his competition.

She was already throughly impressed with how many fish everyone was catching, even if she was a bit disgruntled at her brother getting his "outside help" from his companions to do it. Either way, it seemed like most of the competitors were keeping up with him so she supposed it didn't really matter. The only one that was really falling behind was Vanille with Fern just ahead of her. Everyone else was nearly neck in neck. She continued to walk up and down the edge of the lake, keeping a count of how many fish they had caught while she kept track of how long they had been fishing for. They were rapidly running down the time, but she would give them just a bit longer to try and see who of them would eventually come out on top. She just hoped that the four that were so incredibly close managed to break away from each other so they wouldn't end up in a huge tie!
Rolls:
Fern: 6 + 4 = 10
Vanille: 4 + 4 = 8
Jane: 6 + 7 = 13
Kichi: 5 + 8 = 13
Saracyn: 5 + 7 = 12
Arcturus: 5+ 7 = 12

Ears up, enthusiasm irradiated from her as she was feeling happy and enjoying the events alot. A soft smile rested on her grey lips, eyes of blue shined as her jaws pulled the net once again. And this time even more fish came out. Thirteen more, which would count in nineteen in total. She took her time to pull each one, droping it where she had put the previous batch, slowly and making sure she was counting right. "19!" She said, wanting to memorize well enough the amount caught. She felt excitement but not yet trusty of the outcome. Silently she dropped the last fish and slowly she would for the last time toss her net into the water, doing so a bit farther to test out the distance and how it might affect her totals.

Fern continues her strategy with the net, chumming and trolling to pull in as many fish as she can. As she pulls the net ashore once more, picking out the fish that are trapped and tossing them into her bucket, the gray girl notices that she is catching less and less with each pass. Time to switch things up. Laying the net on the shore, Fern picks up the spear she had brought along and inspects it. A rope is attached to the end to allow her to pull it back without getting wet and she ties the rope around her paw. Next, she tosses out another generous scope of bait, waiting for fish to come nibble before she tosses out the sharp weapon. She quickly falls into a new rhythm of fishing, toss and reel in, toss and reel in. Fern is thoroughly enjoying her time spent fishing.

Vanille was still falling behind, but she wasn't paying much attention to it. Even if she looked like she was really focused on her fishing method, she was actually having some fun. She was prety difficult to read especially to strangers but she really was having a good time. If she caught the least amount of fish that wouldn't matter to her.
It was the first time on her way back into her set net that she looked up just to glance at Arcturus, smiling as her eyes met his form. She felt a little better then. But there was still just a little bit more of time left for the tournament. She went back to her net and went with the same method, there was no harm done so she wouldn't try to switch it up last minute. Taking off her hooked net she unraveled it and went for another round.

With their renewed efforts, Saracyn and his raptors were able to pull up over half a dozen more fish to add to their collection. The Mendacium prince grinned proudly, nodding to the satisfactory work of his companions. That was, until he noticed that he was still down to two of the other fishers by one fish. A competitive fire flared up in his blue eyes. He was so close, he couldn't give up now! Changing up his strategy, Saracyn dropped the spear and ran back to the pile of tools, scooping up a small finishing net and whistling for Vindr and Veior again. The yearling rushed into the shallows with the net, swooping it into the water and dragging it alongside him to try and scoop up as many fish as he could. His raptors flew alongside him, diving into the clear water to snatch at any of the fish that tried to escape their master's snare. This was a last ditch Hail Mary, a mad dash for the finish line. He had to win!

Kichi was starting to get a good feel for the pole. The notion of potentially using it more regularly when fishing came to mind but really Kichi didn’t even like fishing. He had chosen this competition to show some activity but he’d much rather try hunting deer or something that included chasing to kill.
Kichi’s attempts have been working well so far and so he doesn’t bother changing the strategy. He could probably stab more if he started aiming for the smaller ones also but he let them be. If he missed it would mean possibly scaring away or missing larger ones he had better odds at catching. Patience wasn’t fun but he could wait when necessary.
