He rumbled deeply, a subtle call carrying across the battlefield. Places like this existed to test one's strength. He knew to look out for them on his travels, but had only come across this one here. If it was not an official fight that remained on pack grounds, Torben knew it'd take place here. It was the day and he felt sluggish due to the sun, but it was a winter sun. It did not shine as bright, thankfully, even if his eyes twitched from the rays. Who would come to answer? He offered nothing but a friendly spar. His size may be off-putting to some smaller wolves though. He sat his rear on the earth, short tail doing little to shield his hindquarters from the freezing snow. Crimson eyes stared across the field of battle, waiting. Not hoping, oh no, he had little hope for anything. Torben couldn't hope, for he saw nothing of value to himself right now. Loyalty was a hard-won concept for the settler. Even if he resided in Valhalla right now - He did not feel pure and untainted loyalty to them. SPEECH HERE

Tachi still had a lot to learn and still a bit to grow, but at least he wasn't tiny anymore. He'd grown tall and leggy, the string bean of the litter with very little muscle clinging to his bones. Looking at his Mum and Dad it didn't really make sense, but he decided he didn't really care. Not when adventure was out there, trouble to get into far from Tojo's watchful eyes. It was upon the battlefield he found himself an opponent, someone to keep him amused. Someone tall and white, like his Dad minus all the cool looking koi splodges and sharp teeth. As white as the snow stuff that littered the ground.

"You wanna fight?" He asked, a curious tip to his head as his eyes gleamed. Not just with curiosity, but a childish deviousness seldom released back home.

Without really giving his opponent a chance to respond, Tachi was on the move. Clumsy and skittering with legs that weren't perfectly coordinated yet. But he had the drive, the desire to have a tussle and buckets of fun along with it. Grinning he leaned in to grab a mouthful of neck fluff, all thick and puffy, like he belonged in a cold climate.

With no chance to recover from the amusement and subtle shock of a pup charging him, Torben rolled with it. The boy closed the distance easily, trying to grip his neck with a mighty jump. The man's chest rumbled with a growl, added on for the boy's ego as a fearless fighter. He would not look down on him for his bravery. The pup hung from his neck and he could think to do nothing but plant himself. He wiggled his rump and sat down sharply, attempting to pin the boy against the ground. With his neck the better part of a sandwich with the ground and puppy middle, he tried to flatten his body. If the boy tried to pin him, he'd fail due to their size difference. Torben was evening the field of battle best he could while still holding his own. This was playful - no malicious intention was made. SPEECH HERE

Feeling his teeth connect, Tachi was surprised how loose the skin around his neck was. How easily it gave to his sabres. He didn't taste blood nor was that his intention really, so far all his fights and spars had been light-hearted, playful, and this was no exception. Maybe one day he'd have a reason to get all serious, but for now life was fun and family. That's all it needed to be.

He was a little surprised at how easily his opponent gave way. Swaying to the side as though-uh oh. He was gonna fall, squish Tachi flat if he had his own way! Instead of dashing out of the way, Tachi did the most illogical thing. He raised his paws and tried to hook them over his shoulders, scramble up atop his back to be the one on top even if they both fell. Would it work? Probably not? But he was still grinning all the same.

Like a cat, the boy clawed up his back. Torben retaliated by rolling over. If the pup wasn't going to play fair, he wasn't either. Crawling all over the dire wolf wasn't the way to go, even if it satisfied his amusement. This field was for battle and anyone who looked in on the pair would know that the massive wolf was humoring the lad. It had been... so very long since Torben had played with children. With a massive, dramatic grunt he rolled onto his back. Careful not to actually hurt the boy, he stopped halfway and groaned softly. It was a hassle to roll all the way because he was so big and fluffy. "Do you submit?" he asked the lad, checking his humor "or do I gotta squish ya like a bug?" He rumbled deeply to the lad, name not known to him currently. But the lad was brave he'd give him that. He threw himself into the challenge of a larger foe. Torben respected him for that. "You won." Torben was not going to argue the fact. The boy put more effort into his fight than he had. Rolling off the lad, he looks down at him before rising. A smile was given to Tachi, a bow of his head. A symbol of equality, despite their age gap. He turned and headed off, focusing elsewhere on the horizon. No use crying over proverbial milk being spilled. Torben knew he had to give respect to even the smallest of foes, else he'd lose every match.
