The meeting had left the left the yearling with a lot to process. Firstly, the abandoning of territory. She lingered by the lake, by the den she had been confined in for most of her life. Under no circumstance would she miss it, but a goodbye to the place that had defined her life seemed customary, something that had had such an impact on her deserved a send off at least. She considered pissing in it.

Secondly, the matter of her sister. The others seemed to regard her with curiosity more than hostility, but enough wariness to make March shift her weight nervously from paw to paw while she thought back on it. How quickly could those feelings turn? She thought back to her alpha, the look in his eyes twisting her guts over and over. Surely he of all people would understand? She didn’t know him, he didn’t know her. He didn't know how much they had sacrificed, not really. As much as talking it through was a possibility, she couldn’t deny the poison that rose in her stomach. If he couldn’t understand, she’d make him. She noticed her lip curling. She wanted to bite someone.

Winter continued to fight its losing battle, a chill in the air hung around the lake. She was still thin, almost unhealthily so. She’d fix that the fun way. She called, to no one in particular, short and blunt. It was very clear that she was looking for a fight, she just hoped none of her siblings would answer. She was eager to just let loose on some poor schmuck, and maybe bleed some of that naïveté out of her as well. She felt stupid, she felt confused. She wished she could know better, to be able to crack open someone’s skull and read their thoughts. She wished she knew how to keep her family safe. She’d have to settle for a lesson in fucking someone up.

She was stepping foot, for the first time, in lands she knew had been claimed before. She was enough of a roamer since her grandfather had been scarcer, that she was getting out and investigating the world around her more and more, especially now that she was finally a yearling. She could go wherever she pleased whenever she wanted, without supervision. Not that much of that had been going on recently what with Valentine's old ass trying to keep an eye on....how many siblings did she have? How many kids did her father end up siring? She wasn't sure, but definitely more than she could count on one paw.

As she approached the faded borders of whatever pack once stood here, she perked her ears when she heard a howl. Not just any howl, but one that bore the tones of someone looking for a fight. She recognized the tone of that call. And eagerly, Brida moved to meet her would-be opponent. And it certainly didn't take long before the blue-coated yearling came across a pretty looking brown one, though she appeared sickly. Thinner than she was used to seeing. Definitely not like the muscular, battle-hardened Imperialis wolves of her family that she was used to. "I'll be your opponent today!" She exclaimed, a friendly yet challenging grin on her face.

Emerald eyes looked over the wolf that came into view, one of a similar age it seemed. She was built both heavier and larger than her, with her coat and frame she almost reminded her of her brother. She was kind of pretty, and suddenly March wished she was fighting Morax instead. Whatever, she couldn’t feel bad for long. The other girl grinned at her, friendly and enthusiastic. March didn’t return that grin, but she did give a quiet “Hi.” back. She began to circle, looking more like a hungry coyote than wolf. She eyed the strange paws on the girl, as well as the fangs hanging from her jaw. To approach from the front would be unwise.

When she was approaching a parallel to their flanks, she’d dart forward towards the other wolf’s rump, aiming for the thighs of the back leg. Without much experience with stronger opponents, or many opponents at all, it was the first thing she could think of. All of the nasty stuff was at the front, right? After that was said and done, she planned to dart away, a cut and run deal. She just hoped her bite was good enough to justify that strategy.

The girl responded with a simple hi and nothing more as she began to circle. Brida watched her but remained in place. That was fine, she preferred getting straight to the punch, and pleasantries weren't really her thing, either. Who wanted to sit there and chit-chat before fighting someone anyway? It was too much of a distraction. For all she knew, someone could use it as an opportunity to distract her and cheat or something! To let her guard down when it should be all the way up if she was about to fight, no?

She quietly set her defenses, though she remained very aware of the girls positioning. When March came at her, Brida waited until the last second before she moved. And when she did move, it was like a cannon. She turned in place until she was facing her opponent, a heavy paw extended as she aimed to slap the girl with all the power she had behind it. Her claws were sheathed so that she wouldn't leave a permanent mark on her opponent's face. She wasn't here to really fuck someone up. And it was likely she was just as inexperienced as her opponent. They were both yearlings, after all. Brida had just turned a year old, and from the looks of it, this girl looked to be about the same age as her. Whether her heavier paw hit her mark or not, Brida sought to follow after March when she moved away, teeth ready to bite if need be. She wanted to try and follow, to keep as close as she could and remain in the girl's personal space in an effort to keep her movements limited as much as possible.

March opened her jaws a little late, but it may have been the sole reason she kept her teeth. Anticipating the movement, the mortal girl turned on her feet and shot out a single, massive paw, heading straight for March's face. The blow landed home easily, clobbering her across the cheek hard, the momentum shifting her whole body away from her opponent's. Fuck, that was a lot. Her brain jiggled in her skull, her mind whirling with it. No, no no. She'd not lose this easily, she wouldn't let it happen.

Agitated and a bit concussed, there was little distance that Brida would need to close. March took a backstep, a breath to herself, and nothing more, her head hanging low and to the left as she paused. Angry jaws would lash out again without warning, fiercer and swifter this time. With all the momentum she could muster she shot forward, attempting to get past the battering rams her opponent had for paws to get a hold on where the neck met her shoulder (Brida's right, March's left). Closing the distance could lead to a competition of strength March was likely to lose, but she wouldn't risk getting clobbered again. Cuts and bruises she could deal with, but concussions were anything but fun. Her grip on the girl would be strong, rough. She wasn't as careful as her about holding back, uncaring if teeth broke the skin. Pretty or not, this mortal girl was going down.

Brida had been...successful...in slapping the living daylights out of her opponent. Whoops. She hadn't meant to slap her so hard, and honestly, had expected the other yearling to...well...she wasn't sure. Dodge it? Swing her head away? Assume her own aim was bad and her paw would actually miss? But nope. Brida's heavy, bear-like paw had swung true and landed smack dab on the side of the other girl's head with enough force and momentum that it had sent the girl practically sideways and shifted her whole body away from Brida.

The blue yearling gasped with surprise, and she even flinched a bit in a sort of "Oh fuck, my bad" look. That looked like it had hurt. alot. Good thing she had kept her claws from making contact, otherwise, the damage would have been a lot worse and she wasn't looking to severely damage or scar this poor girl. Still, the other yearling had taken a step back to compose herself, and during that time Brida replanted her paw to the ground, and almost as soon as she did, her opponent had exploded without warning.

She probably should've kept herself prepared and aware, but she had felt so bad about smacking the girl across the face, that she had let her guard down a bit. March got exactly what she wanted, even causing Brida to stumble back as she yelped in surprise. Not only that, but where Brida had the brawn, March had more speed. She had been able to bite Brida in her intended target.

It took her a moment to recover, teeth-gritting through the pain of her opponent's teeth and she could feel the blood escape the wound, but in a last-ditch attempt, Brida reared on her hind legs - uncaring if she made her wound worse - and sought to throw her forearms around March's neck in a tight bear hug. She sought to hug the other girl so hard, that she'd be gasping for air while her mouth was pushed further into Brida's body. Suffocating.

Apology hugs were a thing, right?

The indignant rage at getting hit so hard kept March from feeling too bad about the opportunistic attack. Her head continued to ache even as her jaws wrapped around the other girl's shoulder, hitting their mark exactly the way she intended. The metallic taste of blood seeped from the bite as Brida moved, teeth digging deeper into skin, but the girl didn't feel too bad about that either. Any advantage was a good one, especially against an opponent as big and strangely formed as this one.

She felt her rear back, her teeth dug in deeper with the movement as the two rose their hind legs. March felt strong arms wrap around her and press her deeper into the bite, one massive paw nearly at the back of her head, pinning her full force into the girl's neck. This was all well and good, before March realised she couldn't breathe. She squirmed in vain, head unable to break free of the hold as she gagged on navy fur. Despite her determination, she knew when she was beat. She moved a light toed paw to frantically pat Brida's back to "tap out", completely at the larger girl's mercy.

When [or if] released, she'd return to the ground to hack up swallowed fur, and shoot the girl a glare when she was done with the activity. If it hadn't been for those bear paws, she'd have won, no doubt about it. Why had this mortal been blessed with such a feature, while she was left to rot?

Her last ditch attack had been a success. She managed to grab March in a suffocating bear hug, ignoring the further dig of the other girl's teeth as she grits her teeth through the pain. She grunted as she pulled March into her, and before she knew it, she felt the tapping of March's paw on her back and Brida immediately released, letting her opponent fall back to cough up the fur she had nearly swallowed while Brida stood back to give her a bit of space, breathing hard from the effort of their brawl. She let them both catch their breath for a few heartbeats, not missing the glare that was shot in her direction. "You fought well! It was good effort," She praised, hoping her opponent didn't take it too hard.

"I'm Brida by the way. Sorry for the er...well, I didn't mean to hit you so hard. I'm still kinda getting used to these," She lifted a paw and flexed it, the long bear-like claws clicking together as she realized it had been a while since she used them for a fight.

Her opponent seemed a good sportswoman, despite March's bitterness. Unfortunately, it wouldn't help her much, the brown girl's glare steady. She was a lot of things, and petty was definitely one of them. Her praise fell silently, met with nothing but a twitch as March rose to her full height again. It was interpreted as more of an insult, the smaller girl left feeling like an object of pity rather than a capable opponent. Some part of her brain knew she was making assumptions. A larger part of her brain simply didn't care.

Brida. That was her name. She tucked it away in the folds of her brain, certain she'd need it for later use. She planned to come back for a rematch after all. "March." She returned. She would need her name too, after all. Her tone made it clear this was nothing but customary. She wasn't here to make friends.
