Rexx was itching for a little spar. Well, that, and he was itchy. His tusks began as mere nubs that barely poked through his liver lips, but now were starting to inch past his top lip. As a result, the rapidly growing teeth were crowding out his baby ones, causing a lot of discomfort and forcing him to chew constantly. The throbbing in his jaw sometimes paled to that of the crystal spikes on his back, which were inching up higher each day and progressively getting sharper. Both pains at once kept him up, night after night, only being soothed by his dad (would he ever admit that out loud? Never, not in a million years). Was growing up supposed to hurt so badly? His back prickled and his jaw ached. But he was tired of shredding through bark and twigs and attempting to lay on his side so as not to accidently poke someone with his spikes - he wanted to let out his pent up energy through a good tousle. All in good fun, of course! He’d never dream of intentionally hurting someone with his mutations. The most he’d attempt at this point was sit on anither puppy. He loved doing that.
The tusked, burly boy - an almost spitting image of his father - paced the obsidian sands, toes splaying in the ground. With a mischevious grin on his face, the boy tilted back his crested head and howled for an opponent. A pup, adult, whoever! He’d make them play with him either way.

Growing toes splayed out carefully in the sand as the lanky boy crouched down. Creeping forward in a near army crawl toward his bulkier brother, Scald had to smother his giggles. Inching closer with butt wiggling in the air, he would only pause if he thought possibly his brother would turn around and catch him. He had been careful not to be seen. The pup had watched Rexx pace about in the den before leaving toward the beach with a weird expression on his face. Unlike his siblings, Scald only felt slight discomfort when it came to the lengthening of his spinal quills. With his tail flung over his back and ears pressed against his skull, Scald could not hide the shit-eating grin on his face. His brother could possibly have no idea he was sneaking up behind him. He continued his inching slide across the beach even as Rexx let out a howl to request a spar. Perfect timing, wouldn't you say?! Unable to hold himself back, Scald let out a bubbling giggle as he launched himself at Rexx's butt. Careful not to aim too high to avoid the growing crystals, the boy turned his head and opened his jaw. Hoping to land a big ol' bite to his brother's rear end, Scald flew through the air. After calling out for an opponent, it didn’t take long for him to hear a presence nearby. The sand did well to muffle the sound of pawsteps, so it was difficult to hear who it was coming from the direction they were at. Still, the burly boy had a feeling it was ome of his siblings - maybe even a certain quilled, lanky brother he got along with particularly well. A smirk crossed his tusked maw as he continued to pretend not to notice that somebody was creeping up on him. He paused, back to his surprise attacker, even shifting his hind legs a bit as if he was still expecting someone to come around face to face. And then when the strike finally happened, he grinned as he jerked his head back, pivoting his hind end away from Scald’s flying shape, so that the boy’s attack just barely grazed his rump. He giggled, a bubbly, genuine bit of laughter. "Nice try, Scald!” He said, narrowing his eyes as he shifted the rest of his body to face Scald head-on. Lowering the front half of his body in a play bow, crystal spikes beginning to flare out much like a stegosaurus’s plates, he aimed to spring himself into the air and whomp his forelegs in front of Scald’s, spread out as if boxing in his brother’s upper body between his muscular forelegs. Reaching his head towards Scald’s left shoulder, he then aimed to use his (still very rounded and dull nubs) tusks with a tilt of his head to gently but firmly bowl his brother over with his brute strength.

It was to no surprise that Rexx heard him coming from a mile away. As he soared through the air at his brother, he let out a whiny gasp as he saw Rexx turn out of the way. His nails barely scratched his brother's butt as he landed clumsily on all fours. Trying to keep his balance and stay upright, he blinked hard a few times. Before he could get his bearings back around him, sand sprayed up into his face. Spluttering loudly with eyes shut quickly, he felt the pressure of his brother's nubs on his shoulder. "Hey!" Scald squealed as he forced his eyes open. The lanky pup would quickly lose his balance and begin to fall over, but he wasn't going to let Rexx get him that easily! As his paws scrambled to keep him upright, he reached out to aim and grab Rexx by the scruff. If he were successful, he'd either flop over like a fish onto Rexx or Rexx would come tumbling down with him. Ha! Rexx grinned as his forelegs slammed down, sand flying up in a torrent at Scald’s face. His nubs had gained purchase - albeit gently - on his lankier brother’s shoulder, and he’d managed to make him stumble..almost. He’d made it this far, getting the multicolored pup to lose his balance in his own movements, but being top heavy and muscular as he was had its drawbacks. Before he could even swerve out of the way of Scald’s teeth, Rexx felt his sibling snatch his scruff around the base of his neck. "Ow!’ He said, but it was playful and lighthearted. With a giggle, he felt Scald pull him down, and his forelegs buckled as he tripped over Scald’s body in front of him. Oh boy. They were about to become a puppy pile of sorts. ’Watch out!’ Rexx squeaked, basically aiming to bodyslam Scald into the charcoal sand. He didn’t mean to - but if it meant he’d possibly win the spar, he’d play along.

Success! He felt his teeth latch onto his brother's scruff as Rexx let out a squeak. Feeling only mildly sorry for the grab, there wasn't any time for apologies. Before he knew it, they were both tumbling toward the black sand beneath them. Fully coated in the debris by now, the weight of Rexx on him was slightly crushing. Letting out his own sort of squeak as his brother's bodyslam was successful, it caused him to let go of Rexx's scruff. With his whole face scrunched up, he folded his ears back and let out a playful growl. "Oh, c'mon!" Scald whined as he wiggled ruthlessly under his brother. Hoping maybe a dull claw or elbow would catch him somewhere in their tussle on the sand.
