Once Again, Starting Over

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Oof, when had it gotten so hot? Jynn grumbled to herself as she slipped into the shallow end of Lauli Falls' pool. Technically it was autumn in Auster. The weather should have been far more agreeable. Still, anomalies would happen from time to time and she knew she'd just have to deal with it. Jynn sank down even further until only her head rose above the water. About her swam a number of small fish and she eyed a small trout swimming toward the surface to grab a bug then dive back down. Hmmm…. she wasn't particularly hungry but that didn't mean she wouldn't be in an hour. Maybe she could get herself a snack now for once she was fully cooled off.

Ulmaria wasn't quite sure what to do with herself. She was a yearling now, ready to strike out on her own but now that she was out on her own she wasn't quite sure what to do next. She'd spent most of her time gathering herbs and continuing her studies but she had yet to really establish a goal for herself. She supposed she should start looking at packs to join but that just didn't quite strike her fancy, not yet at least. Instead she opted to just go out and see the world a bit more before deciding where she wanted to settle. She was exploring the Lazuli Falls when she spied a strange looking woman in the water. she looked like a giant fox. Curious, Ulmaria crept closer, peering over the ledge she was crouched on to watch the older woman below.

Jynn hadn't noticed the youth watching from above. She was far to focused on luring the large fish in for the taking. Her tail twitched, the water rippling the fur and out of the corner of her eye she could see a dark shadow rising from the deep. It made her heart flutter. She was excited and also nervous for she didn't know quite how to do this. She was running purely on impulse. Did she try to turn around and nab the fish before it bit her tail? Could she really move fast enough? Or did she go ahead and suffer the pain to her tail and try to flip it out before it could let go. The fish was swimming closer and closer. She was running out of time to make a decision.

Ulmaria settled down on her belly to watch. From her vantage point she couldn't see what was going on at first but then she saw a fish swimming in the shallows and it seemed to be heading for the woman's tail. Ulmaria almost shouted out a warning but she saw the wolf's head turn slightly toward the fish. Wait… was that lady trying to make the fish bite her tail? Ulmaria's brow wrinkled. That seemed like an awfully risky way to fish. Though she supposed it was far easier for her than other wolves for with her electric shock capabilities she simply had to go into the water and get close enough to a fish to zap them. It made fishing far easier.

Jynn continued to watch the fish out of the corner of her eye and decided she'd have to just deal with the pain. She was fast but she wasn't confident that she was fast enough to whip around and grab a fish before it realized its mistake and let go. She focused. The moment she felt the teeth sink in she whipped her tail hard, flinging the fish up onto the shore. It flopped violently and nearly flung itself back in but her head darted forward and she seized the fish in her jaws. She thrashed her head, fangs scissoring into the gills. The fish continued to twitch and spasm but shse was certain it was hers now and she hurried deeper inland just in case.
