Deer for dinner
Tove

Kotori made his way through the tall grass of the plains. So much of nature was already forgetting a wolf pack once resided there. That was perfect. Kotori settled on his haunches, watching a deer as it quietly chewed on the grass and it had several friends behind it. Two of them appeared younger and kept close to their mom.
Kotori started to circle about, looking for the perfect spot where he might try to split the herd up and go after one of the younger deer. It would be easier with two wolves to split the herd while chasing off the main course but Kotori enjoyed a challenge and practice.

The scarred woman often trails after Kotori. Since she pledged her loyalty to him, Tove has been determined to help him establish his pack. There is a lot that goes into the starting Ko’s dream and part of that work is gathering enough food to feed the wolves that will come. Today they are in the tall grass land, the older woman lingering close to where Kotori sits. Duel-toned eyes flick over to the earthen male, eyebrow arching in silent question. With a small herd, it would be a good idea to split them up, go for a younger deer while making sure to drive the others away. She is ready to do whatever Kotori wants her to do, all he has to do is say the word.

Kotori kept his eyes on the deer until he glanced to where he spotted Tove, smirking in amusement at seeing the older female had once again chosen to help without asking. Kotori nodded at her then looked back to the deer as he changed up his plan.
“I’m going to take that one, the smaller with the spot of white near the hoof on the back leg. You get the rest further away. Once the herd has given up on its friend come after me.” With those words Kotori started forward, breaking into a run without glancing at Tove. He knew the flashy-colored wolf would follow his instructions.
The deer startled on spotting the wolf of course and would start running.

The plan is simple, Kotori offering his few words before moving to stand. Tove dips her head in understanding, easily falling into step with Ko as he begins to stalk toward the herd. They have fought together, hunted together and, because of this, the scarred woman knows how to read the earthen male. As Kotori breaks into a run, Tove darts forward, her flash of color drawing the deer’s attention to her. Ko is able to angle toward his deer and the scarred woman effortlessly cuts the rest of the herd off from their target. Deer are skittish animals, less prone to attempt fighting back and it takes minimal effort for the older wolf to drive the herd away. With her part done, Tove takes off after Kotori, eager to take down the prey.

Kotori went on faith of Tove doing her job and being safe. He didn’t watch her, instead focusing on his chosen deer, snapping at its legs, driving it away from the others. He wasn’t even attempting to bite at this point, only scare the thing. He could smell its fear and panic, this should be easy.
The deer and Kotori moved farther away, Kotori moving in closer this time, snapping at a back leg. The bite didn’t do enough damage to down the deer but even that small injury would slow it enough the deer had no way to escape the two wolves.
Keeping alongside the deer Kotori lunged forward, grabbing its neck, bracing himself as the deer stumbled, but didn’t fall. Kotori let go and instead bit for the front leg. Soon enough this would be over. The deer stumbled, apparently ready to collapse finally.

The deer did not chase after the youth, Tove’s snarls and snapping jaws are enough to dissuade any who might try. With the deer separated and the herd chased off, all that is left to do is to return to Kotori. Paws churn up dirt and grass as she races in the direction he had fled, the thrill of the hunt causing her heart to thunder in chest with excitement. By the time the scarred woman finds the wolf and deer, the earthen male is already taking it to the ground. The deer stumbles, collapsing with a pained grunt and Tove is there to greet it. Rushing in, she shreds apart its throat as quickly as she can, the deer thrashing wildly which only aids in its bleeding out faster. As it falls still, its life blood painting the grass around it, Tove turns to offer Kotori a happy grin.
