Ardyn sat waiting in the widest point of the Ravine, just outside the cave mouth, watching the entrance for the pups with a quiet smile on his features. With them being old enough, it was time to begin their fighting basics training.
He’d already called into the alcoves for the trio, asking them to join him in the ravine before taking a seat. It was early in the morning, and after their lesson was over, he’d be heading out to patrol, but it was vital to take this time with the pups.
Soon enough, small paw-steps reached his ears from inside, and he waited to see who’d pop into sight down the three natural stone steps first.
Walk ---- "Speak" ---- "Labhair an Sean-Teanga." ---- "Hear" ---- Think |
Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
Chióni whined, covering her pale auds with matching paws. It was too early! The babe didn’t want to leave her warm den. Not yet. The child was definitely not an early riser. Sure, she woke up while the sun was still low in the sky, but not this early. Whoever was calling them, she would have to tell them what she thought about being woken up earlier than usual. Yet, she knew if the adults were calling them, it must be important for them to attend. Maybe a lesson of some sort. Her still small figure shifted again. Reluctance filled every movement, a disgruntled yawn leaving parted lips as the child shook the sleepiness away. Chi nudged her brothers, whether they were sleeping or not, and motioned for them to come along. "Looks like someone wants us," she said, "We should probably go," Chióni stated before allowing herself a cat stretch before leaving their den.
Large paws carried the pup towards the meeting place. It appeared to be the ravine. A man made of shadows and embers waited patiently. Surprise crossed youthful features as recognition surfaced. It was Ardyn, their alpha. Pale forelimbs and shadowed hinds carried the babe down the naturally formed steps. Upon reaching the Valhalla Alpha the youth looked at him curiously, a smile crossing her lips before she said "Good morning!" forgetting her earlier thoughts of being woken up so early. If it weren’t Ardyn that called them, Chi probably would have voiced her thoughts, but she knew not to disrespect her Alpha.

He was sleeping warmly, snugly, and comfortably when he felt someone nudging him awake. "Ssstoooppp..." He grumbled as he rolled over, but the damage had already been done. He had been nudged awake enough. Sort of. Bleary-eyed, he slowly sat up and yawned, then sat there for a minute or two as he wobbled to his feet. When he finally felt like he was awake enough, he got up and stepped out to follow his sister. It was early. And he squinted as he came out of the darkness of the den, nearly tripping down the steps but catching himself in time as he moved to sit by his sister. "Morning," He yawned as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. "Talk," 'Think.' |
