He would fall asleep with Epiphron curled next to him, and his children sprawled out all over the place. Three had turned into four so quickly, and every day they grew larger. His last fading thoughts were of his parents, neither of which were present in his life.

-- Maverick falls asleep --

Eyes would open in a thick fog. With a tentative step forward he would notice that the fog soon lifted, revealing a picture-perfect delta like he'd once known. It was larger than he remembered it being, and more vibrant. Confusion clouded his face as he muttered a tentative note, "hello?" The boy - now a man - rocked onto his haunches, ears aloft and swiveling in all directions. He knew not where he was, or how he had gotten here - all he knew was it was simply beautiful.

Suddenly she would appear, at first a whitish disfigured thing, but once she materialized she looked the same as she had walking her days on earth, only now she was beautiful again. All the hate and anger had left her, and now she felt nothing but eternal joy. The luster in her coat had returned, and the sparkle in her eye never ceased. She was whole again, living in a supernatural world where everyone was happy. Paws would metaphorically kiss the morphed earth below her as she made her way toward her target. It seems as if someone had finally come to visit her, and she couldn't be more than happy. "Maverick?" She would say gently, her tone dripping in sweet honey. It was the tone she used to have before her world turned upside down.

He hadn't heard that voice since he was a child, and truthfully he barely knew it when he heard it now. But he recognized it as his mother - the one his father had killed. With an audible sigh he would watch her come closer, calling his name in a tone that had been so different than the last words he'd heard her speak. Was it her, could it be? "Mother?" His voice nearly broke as he uttered the simple question. Could it really be her? He would slip forward, closer to her. He needed to know if this was her, and if it was.. how much of her still loved him. The last he'd known of her she'd been crazy, perhaps she still was. The sleeping King's tail twitched behind him as he slowed his pace, letting her go the rest of the distance (only about a yard or two) if she chose to. "But you're..." he would utter, perplexed as to how he was seeing and experiencing his mother even though she was very much - to the best of his knowledge - dead.

She could sense the odd vibrations in his soul, she could tell that he was confused and distressed. Did he know that while dreaming he had crossed over to the other side? His voice nearly broke as he said her name, well, the name she preferred to be called. She hadn't been called mother in so long that the word itself put a smile on her face. Her eyes would follow his figure as he came forward, and when he stopped she came to close the distance. If he needed the proof then she would give it to him, only not in the way she wished she could. She knew that embracing the living here was nothing like it was on earth, and when they would touch she would feel no warmth. She would merely feel the slow vibrations of another's soul, and that wasn't anything close to being touched on earth.

Her neck would extend as she attempted to run her nose along the side of his face, and if that were to succeed she would run her cheek along his. Then she would pull back, baby blue eyes resting on his emerald. He was so gorgeous, the man he had become was extraordinary. "Don't be afraid Maverick. Yes, I am what you refer to as dead, but I have merely left my body behind. My soul still thrives, both here, and in you." She would say softly. She did not have all the answers, but she did know that she did not disapear forever when she had died, and neither would he. She needed him to know that.

Dead. It was the word he couldn't say, but it was the only thing he knew to describe her. His father had assured them that he'd killed her, many had witnessed the murder, or requested-suicide.. however one viewed it. There were two things he was sure of, his father was gone somewhere, and his mother was dead. Now one of those things had just been stripped from him - or so it seemed. She embraced him, her cheek brushing against his. It was something he could feel, but not altogether enjoy. It was different. He breathed a sigh, knowing he must still be dreaming, why else would she feel so strange? Emerald met cyan as he gazed at her, still perplexed - shock still written across every inch of his face. "I never thought I'd see you again," he murmured, now shockingly sad for no apparent reason. His mother stood here before him, altogether beautiful and whole again. If only Gerhardt could see. "Are you..." he started, halting momentarily before continuing. "Are you yourself again?" It had been clear to everyone that just before her death she had not been entirely whole. He wondered if death had put her back together again in some ironic change of heart.
