ever been whipped by a shark?

Ajax had bitten off more than he could chew. Or rather, he might get bitten if he wasn't real careful. Or slapped, looking at the sheer length of the shark's whip like tail. He'd seen all sorts of fish in his short life, but one had never tried to slap him before! Not that he could blame it really as he had taken a chomp out of its dorsal fin but still! Fishing was fishing, no matter how big said fish was, right? Kicking out of the way, the waves rolled over his head, blurring his vision as the shark turned only to come in for attack number two. This time he was ready and slashed out his paw underwater, giving its rounded nose a clawed boop. He hadn't worked out how just yet, but he'd set out with the intention of catching something for the feast, and what better than a big shark? He could even give out the teeth to people he liked, like party favours. That is if he managed to bring it down in the first place, baby steps Ajax, baby steps. |

There was no doubt in Nami's mind, as soon as she saw the pup trying to wrestle with something quite large in the water, that she'd shown up at the right place at just the right time. She wasn't really sure she believed in fate but she did believe in happy accidents, and maybe this was one of them. The bobtailed wolf hadn't exactly been looking for any excitement, wading quietly through the submerged trees, but as soon as she heard a racket coming from nearby her interest was piqued. Hurriedly she moved to find the source of all the splashing and when she was confronted with something lashing out in the water at a red-furred wolf, she was glad she'd shown up as quickly as he had.
Was that... a shark? In all the commotion it was hard to say for sure, but it certainly seemed like it. It was hard not to let her protective instincts flood her immediately. Her own experiences with sharks made it impossible for her not to step in, even if this one was not the largest she'd ever grappled with. It still could do some damage if it had the change. "Careful!" Nami called out, bounding through the water to the tail side of the shark. There was no time to wait for her presence to be acknowledged. Instead she lunged at the creature with her jaws unhinged, hoping to grab hold of its tail before it could whip it around at the boy. Maybe the two of them could contain it without too much effort. "Careful of its teeth!" The way her little bobbed tail twitched nervously reminded her of just how sharp they really were. She just hoped this boy wouldn't have the same experience she was had when she wasn't much older than him.

Ajax surfaced once more, gasping a little as a voice called out to him from the shore, telling him to be careful. They were no doubt right to assume he hadn't really thought of doing that, but now he had backup he felt a little more confident, like he had a real expert adult on his side. Someone who'd help him show this nasty shark who was boss and then some! Kicking out of the way, he just about managed to yank his paw from the maw of the snapping shark but instead of retreating further he figured he'd go for its eyes! If it couldn't see very well then surely that would help them win, right? Its skin was rough like dry sand beneath his paws as he kicked and clawed, knocking into its fin as he rolled out of the way and noticed the strange, tan leggy lady holding onto its tail so it wouldn't slap them around. Oh, smart thinking! He knew he could trust her! She was also very good at swimming too, didn't get all awkward and paddly like most wolves did when in the water. Her movements were sure and fluid, like she was one with the ocean itself. He felt his claw hook into something soft and squishy and he glanced down to see the shark thrashing in pain, blood seeping into the water and painting it even more red than before. Ooooh, pretty. |

Even if this kid was obviously being pretty reckless, likely far more reckless than his parents or guardians wanted him to be, at least he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. It looked like he'd been putting up a damn good fight before she got there and even if she hadn't shown up, she hoped he would've been able to stand his ground, even if not enough to take down the shark on his own but hopefully enough to realize when he had to flee. Not that it mattered anymore though - between the two of them Nami was sure they could handle this problem.
The boy made another dive for the shark's face as it continued to thrash about in the water and she sunk her teeth into the shark's tail. Holding on was quite the feat and not something she was sure she could do for very long, but it was enough time for Ajax to claw at the shark's eyes until suddenly she caught a whiff of blood in the air - only just before she sunk her fangs in even deeper and was rewarded with the feeling of warm blood in her mouth as well. Releasing her hold on the shark's tail, she made to leap fully onto the creature's back and aim for the side of its neck. Hunting sea creatures wasn't quite the same as hunting land animals but the basics were largely the same, and she figured if Ajax could get a good hold too now the shark wouldn't be able to break free from their grasp.

Leggy tan lady was the best! She went right for the side of its neck, where its gills were all lined up and took a real big bite. Enough that Ajax's jaw ached in sympathy. Hoping to help, he kicked his way down and gave the other side a good jabbing with his horns, poking and pushing between the gills, doing more damage that he understood, really. The shark wasn't really fighting back any more, or at least doing anything that helped defensively. It just sort of flopped and flailed, might have cried out if sharks were capable of that. What did a shark even sound like? Glub glub? It felt like time passed by whip quick, Ajax blinked, and the shark's movements were even more sluggish. Like trying to rouse someone out of sleep when they weren't ready to get up yet. Worried it would sink out of their grasp, Ajax was quick to grab a hold of its fin and tug it to the surface, at least then they'd be able to haul it to shore a little easier. |

Out of the corner of her eye, she was able to see the boy had made a unique move, jabbing his horns right into the shark's gills. It'd already started fighting back less, but with that last blow it seemed to grow still completely, only giving a few more feeble flops before stopping entirely. By now the water was filled with blood and Nami lapped some off her lips as she finally pulled away, climbing off the shark's back and making to assess the young boy to make sure he'd made it unscathed.
"Pretty brave of you," Nami started, panting as she tried to catch her breath, though she was beaming all the while. It was hard to not be proud of him, even though he was a stranger. "To take on a shark all by yourself." She didn't waste any time in helping him drag it to shore, grabbing hold of the opposite side until they made it to solid, mostly dry ground. "Planning on making a meal out of this?" She didn't know about the feast, she'd just wanted to help.
