He was on the hunt. Grim had found a trail of reindeer that were passing through on their way to migrate to warmer lands. Looking at the tracks, he could tell there were a few young ones, less than a year old and smaller than the adults. Golden gaze looked up to see the direction in which they went, though honestly, with this many footprints, it wasn't hard to tell where they were going. He licked his lips with the anticipation of the hunt to come, and as he studied the prints one more time, he noticed there was a set of prints that looked uneven. An injury, perhaps? If that were the case, he might as well try to cull it from the herd if it was going to die anyway. If not by him, then something else would get it during the migration. Tossing his head back, he snorted to himself as he began to follow, and after nearly an hour, he managed to catch up. A glance at the ground here and there told him that the injured one had a wound that wasn't healed, it was fresh. Perhaps a day or two, because it appeared to still be bleeding. Up ahead through the trees, he could see a small herd of reindeer, and among them, the injured one was lying down with its leg extended, the wound appeared like it was getting infected. Shame. At least it wouldn't have to suffer for much longer. |

Golden gaze steadily watched the herd and the younger, injured deer. Too bad it had been unfortunate enough to have gotten into that predicament. It looked like it would have been a fine pick for breeding season, but it wouldn't even see its first heat. What a shame, what a shame! Oh well, at least it would be an easy hunt...he hoped. As he started to think about a way to drive off the others so he could snatch the young doe away. Before he could fully formulate a plan, however, he heard someone nearby and he turned to find an earthen-toned stranger approaching. "I can help you put it out of its misery... in return, I take a small portion for myself?" He regarded her quietly, and nodded. He didn't have a problem with that, after all, she was due her fair share if she put in her work. That's how he always saw it.

She agreed to help him, and that brought some relief to the young male. He sort of had a plan to get one of these back home. Alone, he would have likely herded one or two of them towards an enclosed part of the forest where it butted up against the Col. There was a spot where there was a narrow path, and he'd easily be able to box in his choice. But then what? He would've had to wait for someone to come by to help him wrangle the beast. But with another helper, even if just the two of them, it'd be easier. He'd formulate his plan a bit better while they hunted, first they had an injured deer to get. "You run in and scare them off with your horns, I run in and finish it off before it can get up?" He glanced at the woman and nodded. He wasn't one for many words, but that sounded perfectly fine to him. "Sounds like a plan to me. Let's get started." He turned his golden gaze back to the deer as the healthier members stood around the injured one. His gaze drifted a bit to one of the potential captives he wanted, so he'd have to keep an eye on that one while making sure he didn't lose it, or their target prey. Despite his larger size, the male crouched low to the ground to try and blend in with the dirt patches that peeked through the snow. With practiced ease, and with the help of his fur-padded paws, he crept forward until he was close enough to be able to keep his target in his sights, and to keep them from trying to retaliate. He jumped out with a bark, horns at the ready as the group scattered in surprise. |

He was slightly amused by the woman using him as cover, but he didn't mind it. She was helping him, after all, so anything to get the job done was fine by him. They scattered more when they launched their attack. Snow was thrown every which way as the deer panicked, though one or two dared to feign an attempt at rescuing their friend, only to be driven off by the smell of blood and the growls of the wolves, and the threat of his own pointed horns. Golden gaze watched them flee as he turned to make sure nothing was going to come at them by surprise, but the hunt of the injured deer was over almost as soon as it had started. It didn't stand a chance against the earthen she-wolf as she kept it down and made quick work of it. As soon as he was certain that she had the job handled, he took off after the doe he had chosen for capture, leaving large paw prints in the snow in his wake. No doubt the woman would follow as promised. After this, she was free to return to the fallen prey to take what she wanted from it. He raced after his quarry, aiming to come up on its right side as he guided it where he needed it to go. "Guide it Northwest! There's a narrow passage leading towards the mountain side, it won't be able to escape once we box it in!" He called over his shoulder as he kept pace with the beast. |
