It had been a “very” productive morning of Elowen sleeping in for once. The monochrome pup hummed to herself, paws twitching as she dreamed. The she-pup had dreamed she was fighting baddies, dragons, and imps that dared try to invade the Hallows. Her lips twisted as she let out a growl in her dream, but then, all of a sudden, she was awake, and the dragons and imps disappeared. The girl yawned, sitting up and stretching from nose to tail tip. Well, that stunk! She liked where the dream had been going but now… hm… She glanced around, noticing that Caladia wasn’t in the room. Curiosity got the better of the girl as she left the room her family shared in search of her sibling. |

The mornings had been much of the same for the young Caladia, waking up, eating, exploring… Yep. Same old, same old. Problem is that she is bored with the limited scope that is her young existence right now and that is exactly why she has decided to try something new. Since the whole pack seems to be working on cleaning up various things around the castle and surrounding lands, the small pup has decided that she is going to help.
But it is more difficult to than she anticipated. Down in the great hall, the girl searches for something, to tidy up. However, her short stature making it difficult to reach… pretty much anything and that means there are les options. Still, that doesn’t deter her as she walks back and forth, searching and thinking. Lap after lap, Caladia ponders what to do, trying to figure out what needs to be done since no one has really explained this cleaning stuff to her.
As she nears the entry to the grand foyer yet again, the sound of small paw-steps making their way down catches her attention and Caladia casts her gaze to the owner of said paws. She finds her sister, Elowen coming down toward her and the girl lets out a small, happy bark at her sibling’s appearance. Bounding merrily over to her sister, the hodgepodge girl almost tackles her dark furred sister in her excitement but she just manages to reign herself in.
Still, her small body wiggles with excitement as her tail wags at a rapid speed behind her. Happiness is etched in every line of Caladia’s face as the pup chirps, “Elowen! ‘m going to help clean! Do ya want to help?” Joy rolls off her frame as she wiggles and dances, delighted to be helping and doing grown up things… even if she isn’t sure what she is going to clean.

Elowen searched the floor where their room was but there was still no sign of Callie. This causes the monochrome girl to furrowed her brow in confusion. Where could she be? Had she already made her way downstairs? El gave a sniff, checking the air. Unfortunately there were enough scents mingling in the area that she couldn't pinpoint her sister easily. Ah well, she might as well make the effort to head downstairs. Elowen made her way to the staircase and started her slow, careful descent. She could see why her father had warned them about running here. Falling down the stairs would be a painful way to get down them. Once she reaches the bottom, however, a happy bark greets her. Elowen looks up to see Callie coming at her. Oh boy, she was coming in hot! Luckily Calaida manages to reign herself in. Still, she seemed excited, and the monochrome girl wiggled in place as well, her sister's excitement infectious. "Sure! What are we going to clean?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. She had seen some of the grown ups cleaning things… "Maybe we could get some of the statues in the courtyard looking better? Weeds and stuff we're snaking up onto them. We could pull out the weeds!" |

Callie bounces in place as her body wiggles excitedly; the thought of having her sister join her is just too much for the puppy to contain. Luckily, Elowen is happy to join but she then asks the difficult question of, what are they going to clean? Brows furrow and the pup’s excited wiggling slows as she tries to think of something they can clean.
Again, her sister saves the day by suggesting they make the statues in the courtyard look better. Mismatched eyes light up with sheer joy and she happily barks, “Yeah! You’re brilliant El! That is the perfect thing to do!” With a bounce and yip of joy, Caladia turns toward the open castle doors and bounds onward.
It isn’t too far to the first statue and Callie has to quickly put on the brakes so that she does not collide with the hard marble base. Clods of dirt and grasses go flying as her nails dig into the turf but she manages to stop just shy of impact. Turning to her sister and grinning, she says, “Want to take the left side and I’ll take the right?”
Ears perk up to catch Elowen’s reply before she moves forward to start digging at the weeds roots that are on her side. While the plants themselves are thin and vine-y, the roots are deeper than the girl first thought. Dirt flies as she slowly digs out the nasty weeds.

Caladia agreed to her idea and Elowen swished her tail happily back and forth. They made their way outside and immediately moved to one of the statues. Working alongside her sister would make the task of weeding a lot easier. She moved to the first statue, trailing after her sister, careful not to move too fast so that she didn’t run into the solid marble. Her sister asks if she is fine taking the left side and Elowen gave a nod. “Sounds good to me! Let's get to work!” Once there, she begins to dig, her tiny paws moving quickly yet carefully, trying not to get too dirty. It would be impossible to avoid it completely, but she’d rather just have to clean her forelegs later if she could help it. Grass and weeds were torn up, roots torn away from the earth as she worked on clearing things out on the left side. Some of the thicker, vineier plants give her trouble though, and Elowen furrowed her brow in concentration as she worked on trying to take them out. “These vines are pretty thick, huh?” She asked, calling to her sister. |

The pair get to work uprooting the vines that snake their way around the marble statue and Caladia digs with great enthusiasm. While Elowen tries not to get too dirty, the hodgepodge-hued girl revels in the feel of the dirt against her paws and the heady, earthy scent that comes with each turn of the soil. Paws quickly become caked with earth as the girl finds she has to go further down than she originally thought to reach the root of the problem.
Clods of dirt fly every which way as she digs, her underside quickly turning into the earthen hue of the ground as she works. El’s voice pulls her attention up and away from her work and Callie finds herself panting from the exertion. Taking a moment, the girl leans back on her haunches, tongue lolling out the side of her mouth as she swipes a dirt caked forearm over her suddenly runny nose.
Nodding her head, she says, “Yeah! No wonder the adults haven’t done this… its hard work!” A giggle bubbles out as she looks to her hole, noticing that several of the vines have been severed from the root ball but still cling with determination to the statue’s form. Huffing, Callie looks to her sister and asks, “How do we get them off the statue?” A paw points out what she means as she looks to her smart sister, curious if she knows the answer to this riddle.

The girls continue to work, their efforts starting to chip away at the problem. It was tougher than Elowen expected it to be, but that just made it all the more important that she help tear the vines away, right? She has to dig down far to get to the roots, and even as she pulls the roots out and upward the vines cling to the statue for the most part. Soon her tongue is lolling out of her mouth. Her sister agrees with her statement about the vines, commenting that it was hard work trying to get them off the statues. She wasn’t wrong. It was really tough, and it seemed like their task was only beginning! Elowen pulled back, panting as she looked up at the stubborn vines. “Good question. They seem to be on there pretty tight, and yanking on the end doesn’t give much. We might need to find a way to get up higher on them, and rip the roots upward to tear them loose from the statue. If they even want to give at all. They’re clinging really, really tight!” For emphasis Elowen grabs onto the root and pulls against it, but it holds firmly against the statue, resisting her pull. El drops it and comes over to Callie’s side. “I can hoist you up, and we can test it?” |
