It was overcast and gloomy but Elowen had decided it might be fun to head out to the Grove. She hadn’t been there for long before, and now that she was able to explore a bit more, she had decided to sneak off before any of her siblings might request her attention. Elowen was excited, her ears perked forward and a grin on her face as she made it to the orchard. With it being spring more of the berry bushes were producing sweet fruits which were, of course, tempting to the young girl. More tempting however was how open and free everything felt here.

Elowen picked berries as she wandered around the grove, tail swishing happily back and forth. It might have been the perfect day, at least until she saw what appeared to be a much bigger figure than her and thick, black fur. El skidded to a halt and ducked behind a bush. She’d never seen a bear before, let alone a black bear. The beast was eagerly feasting on the berries on the nearby bushes, and Elowen flicked her ears back. Those berries belonged to the Hallows!

“Go away! Those are the Hallow’s berries!” She barked, stepping out from behind the bush. The bear turned toward her, letting loose a bellow the moment its beady eyes fell on the pup. Elowen swallowed. Uh… it didn’t seem like it was listening. She growled, fluffing up her fur, but she did not feel confident trying to chase off ths larger opponent.

Exploring Hallows territory was getting boring. Dusk had been all over the place. She'd explored all nooks and crannies, all the secret places. It was difficult to sit still though, so she continued to learn the land, doing her own sort of little patrols. Sometimes she went with one of her siblings. Most times she went alone. Like today, the obsidian child was out on her own, sniffing around, following the trail of one of her cousins. Dark ears pricked as she heard the firm yell of that cousin. That didn't sound good.

Dusk rushed forward, nose testing the air as she came closer. She could smell the scent of bear and it prompted the girl to run faster still. She broke through the foliage of the grove just in time to see Elowen facing off against a black bear. Well, that just wouldn't do. With a snarl, the larger pup moved to her younger cousins side. Dusks thick, black coat bristled, making her appear larger and she lowered her head between her shoulders.

Teeth bared and Dusk took a step forward. "Get out of here," she snapped at the bear. The somewhat small, hungry black bear swung on the pair of wolves and released a lowing groan as it began to stalk towards them. Dusk remembered her father saying that she was supposed to run for help, but she couldn't. Again, that intense urge to protect her family reared up within her mind. With one last snarl, Dusk dove headlong at the bear, not waiting for it to reach her first.
