I'm So Glad This Isn't One of the Times We Explode [Thyri]
Jynn moved the piece of hide one way and then another before flipping the cover shut. She and Kala were still piecing together the symbols but she was starting to get an idea of what they might mean. After speaking more with the jaguar they determined that Stalwart Paw had entered these lands from Auster and that would be the best place to start. That suited her fine. She could handle the heat of Auster's summers far better than that of its winters. She didn't know exactly where in Auster but she had a region in mind. It was a start at least. Now to see to supplies.
With the help of her companions she had a fire going and was now smoking meat on sticks she'd stuck into the ground so that they tilted into the smoke.
With the pack her cousin Víðarr planned to join recently dissolved Thyri was lacking direction. Her days were filled with exploring these new lands and hopefully finding some sort of purpose. Soon she'd need to catch up with her family but as of now her sights were set on adventure. This free spirit was incredibly hard to keep in one place for long and needed a good reason to maintain focus. Most of the time that meant a good and powerful goal to hang over her head. Hopefully she'd find one soon... Inky paws hit the ground hard as the wild babe ran through the prairie. Birds scattered in her wake as the winter air licked at her thick monochrome pelt. There was nothing like a sprint in the cold air. She felt her blood pumping and her breathing growing heavy. Her run only slowed when a rather curious scent filled her nose. Thyri slowed down to a mere trot as blue eyes squinted, finding the source. Smoke bellowed into the air not to far away... The Viking raised a brow as she stopped completely to contemplate her options. Either she could carry on with her jog or check out the fire. After only a short time of thought she began to head in the direction of the smoke. With the distance closing between she and the fire those blue eyes were able to take in the scene. A Maned Wolf was tending to the fire. A few sticks of meat were pointed at the flames and it seemed there was a bit of a camp set up. Thyri approached with a brow raised,

Her stomach rumbled as the smell of smoking meat wafted through the air. That reminded her that she should probably do some hunting soon. The smoked meat was for travel, not to sate her hunger in this very moment but still it was hard to resist the thought of just eating what she had right now. There were prairie chickens and grouse about. She supposed it would be worthwhile going after one of those.
The sound of approach swiftly caught her attention. She was under no illusion that her cooking meat would go entirely unnoticed by other predators. Thankfully it was a familiar face that approached. One of the women that had helped her during an elk hunt. "Hello there! It's good to see a familiar face and I'm glad to know the name that goes with it." They had been in the throes of hunting and there had been no time for proper introductions. "My name is Jynn. You're welcome to join me for a spell. I'm just curing some meat for an upcoming journey before hunting for lunch."
The smells making their way to her nose caused her mouth to water a smidge. Eyes danced across the supplies and food. She was impressed to say the least and was glad that the lass had been a familiar face. A group of them, including the Maned Wolf and Thyri, joined together for a good hunt a while back. That comforted the loner just a bit. Thyri listened to the friendly tones and offered a nod. "I agree." The Viking moved closer to look over what Jynn had been preparing. "Glad to meet ya' Jynn." Her inky tail swished idly as she raised a brow, "I've never cured meat before. Mind if I give it a go?" Thyri totally understood if Jynn didn't want a stranger messing with her resources but it was worth a shot. "Also, where are ya' headed?" A journey sparked the Trygg's curiosity.

"Sure, I just used my teeth to pull off thin strips of meat along the grain. They're easier to thread onto skewers and smoke. When they're dried like this they'll last longer without spoiling." Jynn shifted the remains of the deer carcass toward Thyri so the other woman could give it a try. Maybe she could trade for the woman's help in hunting later, but at the mention of where she was headed her tail started to wag with excitement. "Auster!" She reached out with her paws to the leather-bound book and its vellum pages, quickly flipping to the middle. Across the pages were scribbles and symbols as well as shapes that looked like they could be Boreas and or Auster. She really wasn't sure. Despite traveling to every land on both continents she had only the vaguest idea of what each land mass was shaped like. "I found this. I think it might be a sort of treasure map."
