He had had a lot of time to think about his place in this pack. Avalon was where he wanted to be, he'd decided. He often kept watch over the livestock. Sheep, mostly, and he quite enjoyed it. He had been able to tune out the annoying bleating things, but they were gentle creatures and he appreciated that. He enjoyed roaming the range and the outlying lands, running across the hills and racing the birds and deer, and other livestock. He kept them safe, protected them from the threat of outside predators, and in turn, they trusted him to keep them safe and sound. They didn't run or panic or feel threatened by his presence. Though some were still wary of the wolves that kept them, Balian so far had no issues with the animals they kept. He didn't know if Corbie had a place specifically for him concerning the livestock, but whether she did or not, it was high time he let her know what he wanted for his position here. With that in mind, he sought her out, heading to the barn where she would probably be. Or not, he didn't know. "Speech"

She was in the barn, as it happened, setting up some of the old stalls for the pregnant ewes about to birth. They could - and often did - drop lambs in the pasture with the rest of the flock, but it would be safer for them, the lambs, and the flock itself to be able to put them somewhere safer from predators so the smell of freshly birthed lamb didn't attract more attention than Avalon could handle. They'd only really need a short time in the stalls before they were recovered and well-bonded with the lamb, and could safely be released back into the flock, so she could rotate the ewes through the stalls as they began to drop the lambs. The sound of Balian's now-familiar hooves brought her attention up from where she was spreading straw over the floor of the stall, and drew a smile from her. "Balian, good morning!" she called to draw his attention to where she was working.

His ears perked forward at the sound of Corbie's voice and he proceeded forward to the stall she was working in. He snorted a soft greeting to her, steps slowing as he stopped at the entrance of the stall. "Good morning Corbie, I thought I might find you here. Getting ready for another lamb season?" He had noticed some of them looked about ready to drop, and he was sure any day now they'd have a new set of lambs pretty soon. He was always up for conversation over the herds he helped to watch over, but that wasn't quite the reason he was here. "Corbie, I think I've finally decided what I want to do for the pack. Avalon has truly helped me to find peace, especially looking after the herds we have." "Speech"

Balian appeared at the entrance of the stall, and Corbie nodded at his query. "It's a little early yet, but it never hurts to have the stalls ready if we need them." It wasn't, however, what he had been seeking her out for, something that was quickly apparent as he continued. Corbie listened with quiet curiosity, and her expression softened into a pleased smile. She'd wanted Avalon to be someplace that people could find their calling in safety and security, and it seemed that she had managed to succeed with Balian, her most unusual pack member. "I am very glad to hear that, Balian. What is it that you've decided you want to pursue?"
