Spring may be in full swing up in Boreas but, down here in Auster, fall is slowly settling in. As the season had turned, there had been something besides just beautiful flowers to look forward to. For Andy and her siblings, it had heralded the closing of the first full year of their lives. It has been strange, difficult, and, at times, almost too much to handle but they had all survived. It may seem trivial but, to her, it feels like a major accomplishment. So, to celebrate, the young purple girl had set out to visit her sister down at The Hallows.

Andy had been sure to pack a small bag with items that she may need before she had set out on her trip. Thankfully, it had been uneventful and she had made the trek much faster than she thought she would. As her paws cross the Bifrost, night has begun to fall and the girl decides to change her plans slightly. The grove of huge aspen trees calls to her and she finds a secluded spot with a gap in the canopy to provide a view of the stars. She decides to spend the night here and meet up with her sister in the morning.

There is plenty of kindling and dead leaves to create a fire and the purple girl quickly sets about gathering what she needs. Andy selects several thick branches and a heap of leaves, moving the items to where she plans to start her fire. Next, she selects some stones and begins to make a small ring in the clearing. It will help to keep sparks from jumping out and igniting things that should not be and allow the wolves around it not get burned. Since it is fall, the grass here has died and left the area to be nothing but barren dirt.

With her stone ring set, the girl then moves some of the dead leaves into the middle. Then, she begins to stack the branches in such a way that they appear to make a tent. Finally, she spreads the rest of the dead foliage on the tented wood. From her bag, she withdraws a piece of flint and a small piece of steel. Carefully, underneath the middle of the branches, Andy strikes the flint and steel together, sending sparks flying. After a few attempts, some of the leaves begin to smolder and she lowers her head to the struggling flame.

Gently, she breathes slowly onto the area until several flames begin to leap upward and she pulls away. Sitting back, she slowly feeds the growing fire some small sticks. Soon enough, Andy has a nice fire crackling merrily out in the open. Moving outside of the stone ring, the purple girl settles on the dirt. Pale blue eyes watch the dancing flames, falling into a slight daze as they hypnotize her.

The cracking of a dried stick nearby pulls the girl’s attention away from the fire and she is immediately on high alert. Muscles tense for a moment before the familiar scent of the Hallows greets her and she quickly relaxes. It is her sister’s pack and everyone she met there was nice. Softly, Andy calls out, “Hello?” Pale gaze watches for a form to break from the shadows and join her.

Being enclosed within the castle was still a difficult thing for her to adjust to even after spending a couple of seasons with the wolves of The Hallows. She still often found herself getting restless at night from time to time and wanting to see more of the sky than what she could see through her window. It was a strange thing considering she had a more traditional den in her old home where she could see even less of the sky when she was tucked into bed, but perhaps it was just the fact that she had been much closer to the outside back then than she was in her new room down the winding corridors of the castle that made the difference. Slowly she was getting used to this new way of life of living in a pack with so many wolves around her and hopefully with time she would fully adapt to this new lifestyle as well.

Until that day came though, she relaxed by walking the borders at night, releasing some of her anxious energy and getting some fresh air while still feeling like she was being helpful by doing patrols. She tried not to stay out too late so that she could be up bright and early for patrols and training with Mercury, but she couldn't deny her love of the cool night time air and how bright and clear the stars looked. She looked up at the sky almost as much as she looked at the path ahead of her, a little smile on her lips. However, her peaceful walk was disrupted a bit as she noticed something billowing up through the night sky. She didn't catch it at first, but as her steps slowed and she squinted through the darkness, she realized it was smoke obscuring her view of the stars. It didn't seem like a thick, heavy column of smoke–or at least not yet–but the first hints of smoke that she had seen back before her former home had been snatched away hadn't seemed like much either.

Her smile faded with a look of concern and she glanced back at the castle for a moment as she wondered if she should go back to find someone first or if she should investigate right away. Hopefully it was nothing, but if she just assumed it was and kept going and then it turned into something worse then she would never forgive herself. Stepping away from the pack borders and moving through the aspen forest that stood ahead of her, she followed the smell of the campfire until she reached the edge of the clearing and spotted the fire that lucky seemed very contained with a slightly purple-hued young woman laying beside it. Well, at least it was just a campfire that the stranger had an eye on so Anthea was able to relax with the reassurance that this was a very different situation than back in her homeland. She turned to go back to her patrol, but when she did her paw landed right on a dried bit of a branch and it made an obnoxiously loud snap under her weight. Glancing back over her shoulder at the stranger she saw that her accidental noise had startled her.

She briefly considered just darting back to Hallows land simply out of embarrassment for disturbing her the ways she had, but that felt even more weird, especially after the other woman called out, clearly looking for whoever had made the noise. Anthea hesitated for a moment more before sighing softly and stepping out into the clearing and walking closer to the fire. "Sorry to disturb you!" she apologized as she got close enough to talk comfortably, giving the younger woman a smile. "I just saw the smoke from over there and wanted to make sure it was just a campfire and not anything dangerous."

The night is wonderful and the happily crackling fire invites all who wander nearby to come closer. Andy hears the crack of a dry branch and it feels as deafening as a bomb would be in a silent room. Tension rises for a moment but the reminder of being so close to the Hallows quickly puts the girl at ease and she calls out to whoever may be there. A beautiful woman emerges from the trees, apologizing for having disturbed her.

The purple girl quickly waves it away with paw, understanding the woman’s reasoning while saying, “No worries! Never apologize for being cautious. Plus, you did not disturb me. I was just thinking how nice it would be to have company!” With a smile, Andy beckons the wolf to the fireside, offering her a comfortable space to sit and talk. Pale blue eyes watch as the slate wolf approaches and she makes room for her.

Once the woman is settled, the girl says, “My name is Andromeda. Andromeda Fatalis. Briar is my sister and I came down to Auster to see her. But, it was night and I wanted to watch the stars before going to visit.” She explains why she is out here, burning a small, but cheery, fire in the aspen forest… all by herself. The woman offers up her name and the girl dips her head in a polite bow. With the introductions done, Andy turning her gaze back up to the stars.

After a few moments, she softly says, “I love the stars. My mother use to share stories about them.” A wistful sigh rolls out into the cool evening air as her mind turns to Zee, missing the woman and all the time that will never get to have together. Turning her attention back to the Anthea, she offers a small smile and asks, “So, Anthea. What do you like to do?” The fire pops beside them and the hours will stretch as the purple girl and slate woman swap stories about their lives.
