It was another day, and an important lesson that Gavroche wanted to share with Dorian, at least once they had gathered some herbs in The God’s Garden. The tiny winged male glanced over at his son. Dorian and his siblings, particularly his brother, had gotten so big. The boys had inherited Bellamy’s height, whereas it seemed the girls were meant to be petite, like himself. It was amusing, in a way. “I’ve been telling you about some different herbs, Dorian. What one do you think would be best for us to harvest first? We’ll need to gather what we can. I can explain the process for drying and storing the herbs as we hunt for it.” He was sure it would be a long day here. They needed to gather what they could before the frosts of Auster’s winter came and wiped the plants out. "Speech" 'Thought.'

Dorian followed eagerly beside his father as they made their way out to the nearby garden. Of course he was always looking for herbs to gather or cultivate within their pack's borders, but it was always interesting to see the other plants and herbs that grew in other places. The God's Garden in particular always seemed to have the most interesting plant life and the widest variety so their trips out here were always his favorite. He was already scanning the various plants that he could see among the winding path of the garden as they went when his father asked what he thought they should harvest first and mentioned teaching him how to dry and store them as well. He hummed with thought, trying to remember what they had a decent store of already back home and what would be the most useful to have on hand. "Well, I don't think we could really have too much boneset or yarrow so that might be a good place to start. But there are some more unusual herbs out here too so maybe we should look for something like elderberry first." Really, he was going to collect as much as they could carry, but it never hurt to have a game plan!

"Dorian"

Gavroche would wait patiently as Dorian thought about what they should gather. He wouldn’t rush his son, nor give him the answer, not that he needed to. Dorian was learning well, and Gavroche was proud of that. Like his old sister Lucy before him the boy was doing wonderful in his training and Gav felt confident he could start treating wounds on his own. He gave a nod as Dorian suggested elderberry. A good herb; one that was less common but useful for strengthening the immune system, fighting respiratory infections, and could even be used as a laxative if needed. The man nodded, gaze sweeping the garden as he padded alongside his boy. “That is a good plan. While having extra boneset or yarrow can be useful, gathering the herbs that grow uncommonly or even rarely in an area is a good strategy. We have my bag, so we will be able to carry more herbs back with us than the average healer.” It would also be good to look for the elderberry now, while they are at the edge of God’s Garden. “How have you been feeling with your training, by the way?” Gavroche asked his son while they searched. “Do you feel like you are making the progress you want to make?” "Speech" 'Thought.'

Dorian grinned happily as his father approved of his plans and echoed his thoughts on the benefit of looking for some more rare and uncommon herbs while they were somewhere that they might grow. He nodded with understanding at the mention of the bag he brought to carry back lots of herbs and with that got to work searching out the plants they were looking for. He was definitely on the hunt for Elderberry now that it was on his mind, but he also kept an eye out for any kind of helpful herbs or plants as he went. He didn't want to get too caught up in the hunt for one particular thing that he'd miss out on something else that would be just as useful!

He glanced back over his shoulder at his father as he was questioned on how he felt about his training and if he felt like he had made the progress he wanted to make. He grinned a little as he replied, "I feel like I've learned a lot and I've gotten a lot better, but it feels like there's always way more to learn, you know? So it's hard to tell if I'm really making a lot of progress or if I've just scratched the surface sometimes." He looked back toward the plants in front of him, pulling back some vines and parts of bushes as he went to search deeper into the tangled garden around them. "But I always learn something when I'm with you so I'm sure I'll be a master in no time!"

"Dorian"

Seeing his son grin, speaking honestly about his progress as a healer made the winged man happen. Gavroche chuckled softly at the response, moving up alongside his boy as he shifted the grasses back to see what herbs might be lurking behind them. Elderberry could grow high, so looking up for those would be key, but it didn’t hurt to see what else was there in the meanwhile either. Ahh, and as expected he found the soft, fuzzy leaves of a familiar plant behind some of the taller grass. Lamb’s Ear. His green gaze would flick back towards Dorian as he spoke. “You are not wrong. You have learned a lot, and you are making a lot of progress. One of the beautiful things about being a healer is even if you’ve learned everything a more experienced healer knows, there is still more to learn. Different combinations of herbs, maybe uses we haven’t discovered yet. A good healer should not be judged for knowing “everything” but for having a wide variety of knowledge of ailments and treatments, and be open to learning and discovering new ones.” He smiled warmly. “You are catching up to the basics of what I know so quickly, even faster than your sister had. I’m proud of you, Dorian.” He chuckled softly, gaze turning back to the Lamb’s Ear he had unearthed. “I don’t think I’ve told you about this plant though, and it’s one of the first ones I taught your sister about. It’s called Lamb’s Ear; a plant that is in the mint family. See how the leaves are a bit silver? They’re soft.” Gavroche lowered toward the plant, motioning with a paw. “In summer they will grow tiny purplish-pink flowers. Removing them is best to help the plant keep in compact should you ever need to transplant it elsewhere and want it to flourish.” He glanced back at his boy. “They like sunlight, so full sunlight or partially shaded patches of earth will help them grow best. Being trapped here behind some grass will hinder them, and that’s why there’s not as much growing here as there might be in other areas. It is an uncommon plant though, so you won’t necessarily find it in abundance.” Gavroche chuckled. “If we were to try and grow some in Ethne, where would you think the best spot to grow it would be?” He would start with that, then move on with what the leaves could be used for… and see if Dorian might have a guess on that use, for that matter! ------- Gave another character a healing lesson (Lamb's Ear) - 1 / 3 "Speech" 'Thought.'
