The days are almost always overcast down in Auster as the winter continues to dearly drag on. The clouds, along with the rain have meant more days in her den or in close to it but, the weather does not damper Haydée’s need to explore. Since the death of her father, the young girl has dedicated herself to becoming a better fighter and she has been training tireless as she learns and adapts attacks that Dagrún had kindly shown her. Truthfully, the girl has retreated into herself in an attempt to deal with the overwhelming grief her gentle father’s murder has brought to her.

It has seemed to help even if it meant that she had to detach from her siblings because seeing their own grief is almost too much for her heart to handle. It is an unhealthy coping technique but the girl whose grief in as deep as the ocean does not know that. Today she has decided to go visit the nearby woods where she had run into the very strange, yet somehow funny, boy. Thoughts of Tate fill her head as she wanders the winding trails, the strange mist that seems to hang low to the ground swallowing her slight form from sight. Haydée is so lost in her own churning thoughts that the girl does not notice when sound of birds suddenly fall off.

In this creep, turning, twisting labyrinth of trees the sounds of animals are an almost constant companion to those who travel the paths and the birds that call this place home, usually call out in eerie, grating tones. Yet, as she moves deeper into the supposedly hunted woods, those calls are nowhere to be found. A cold, creeping as if some ghost is tapping on her shoulder with an ice-cold paw, suddenly pulls the small wolf from her troublesome musings and, to her dread, the girl finds that there are actually no sounds from any kind of animals on the breeze.

Confusion tugs her features down as the sudden stillness makes her very skin begin to crawl. Her small paw hits a twig, snapping the thin piece of wood, and the resulting sound has the same resounding intensity as that of a gun going off in a silent room. All at once, the noise returns but, this time, in the form of eagles screaming angrily. It grates against her nerves as they hide within the tree line, flitting from branch to branch just out of the girl’s sight as they size her up. Haydée’s heart sinks down into her toes as she realizes that she is being hunted and the small wolf turns tail to run.

That is when they emerge, powerful wings buffeting her with air as the they scream and a group of four Martial eagles descend upon Haydée. A scream is ripped from her throat as the large birds’ talons flash toward her frame and she realizes that they could easily carry her off. The anger that has been unearthed with her father’s death begins to boil up, flushing her face with rage as she realizes that this is just like the time when a tiger had attempted to steal her. Fear becomes the furthest thing from her mind as the young Heir allows that hot rage to pour into her veins, lending strength and agility where she needs it.

Amidst the eagles screams, a new yell is added, one of pure outrage and disgust as the girl throws herself to the leaf littered floor and rolls away from the hunger beasts’ talons. They cry their dismay, scattering skyward as they regroup and ready to try again as Hay leaps back up to her paws to snarls threateningly at them. They dive, each one attempting to strike at a different time in an attempt to throw the small girl off but it is no use because Haydée is livid now. The first eagle is met with teeth and paws and the girl actually manages to smack its head and send it reeling away.

It cries out its dismay as the second one appears and her attention shifts, teeth seeking one of its wings and coming away with several bloody flight feathers. Spitting them to side, she smirks as the third comes at her side and she swiftly rounds on it, slapping it out of the sky and down to the earth. It lands, hard and Hay is quick to chase it, teeth seeking and finding the delicate bones of one wing and easily breaks them, effectively grounding the creature.

It screams in pain and fear and the girl happily drinks it in, forgetting for a moment, about the fourth eagle. Excitement zips along her nerves as she revels in the fight, feeling buoyed and nigh invincible… until the talons of the fourth bird of prey slice into her side. Screaming in rage, Haydée spins toward it, paw slapping at empty air where the creature had been moments before. It calls out, the infliction almost making it seem like the bird is laughing at her, mocking the momentary lapse of concentration. With a mighty roar of fury, the girl redoubles her efforts, fighting the swarm of eagles with anything and everything she has.

Dorian sorted through his herbs for what felt like the millionth time, continuing to struggle to concentrate or feel as if he was actually accomplishing anything. Still, he couldn't keep himself from going back to his herbs and his attempts at learning to become the healer that his father once was. It was the thing that he had bonded so strongly with his father over and he wanted it to be a source of comfort, a way of keeping his father with him, but at the same time it only reminded him of the fact that he was now doing all of this alone. Yes, his older sister was his new tutor and he was thankful for her help and guidance when he needed it, but the fact still remained that he had been sure that he would have had years to learn anything and everything from his father and that was snatched away.

Distracting himself with his work was his only real solution even if that wasn't the most healthy solution. They all seemed to be dealing with this loss in one way or another and this was his it seemed. As he was putting away his most recent finds and the herbs that had just finished drying out enough for long term storage, he realized there was a few that he was getting low on or that he was missing entirely. He knew he'd be able to find the majority of them within the Wraith's Woods so without really putting much thought into the dangers the woods could have or considering asking someone to join him on the trip, he went off with his herb bag in tow to go on another herb collecting trip. Getting to the edges of the woods was easy enough from their home, but once he got into the dense fog and foliage of this place his movements were a little more slow going. He kept an eye–and a nose–out for the plants he was looking for while still being conscious of the fact that there could be predators and the like roaming around here.

The eerie quiet of the forest was suddenly broken by the screeching of some kind of large bird of prey not too far from where he was and it sounded like more than one if he had to hazard a guess. The sound of them made the fur on the back of his neck stand up and he looked up toward the sky and the trees cautiously, mostly just intending to try and avoid whatever was happening if he could. However, as soon as he heard his sister's yell among the cries of the various predatory birds that plan went right out the window. He didn't know what Haydée up to out here, but that didn't really matter in the end. He immediately took off through the woods, bounding past trees and over brush as he worked his way toward the sounds of fighting until finally he landed in the same clearing as his sister just in time to see one of the eagles wheeling off from catching her side.

His emerald gaze darted around frantically for a moment before he finally spotted a fairly large stick that had some thorny vines stuck to part of it and he quickly decided that was as good of a weapon as any. Grasping it and pulling it free of the surrounding brush, Dorian rushed in right as the eagles were beginning to descend on Haydée again. Luckily they hadn't noticed him just yet so at least he had the element of surprise. He leapt in, swinging the makeshift sword wide above him and making a solid, thudding impact with one of the eagles and knocking it at least temporarily to the ground. The screeching cries from the eagle quickly shifted from menacing to startled as it regained its balance and started to fly off. Between his swinging and Hay's attacks they managed to chase off the eagles fairly readily with just a few talon scratches to show for it. It didn't seem like the large birds were too interested in keeping up the fight now that there were two wolves to tangle with so they took off shortly after he joined the fray–not before he cracked the stick he was wielding from hitting one of them very hard.
