He sat on the shore of the island closest to the isle. His fur was soaked to his skin, but it didn't bother him. Instead, as he watched the sunset, he waited for his wife. Well, that was a part he needed to follow up on, but nonetheless, she was his wife. Now that their first brood was growing up and some were on their way to new horizons, he hoped that maybe they could try for a second time. Not that they had been the best parents the first time around, but the second time would be the charm, right? Lazily, Gil turned his head so that he could watch her approach. "The archipelago will be ours soon," Gil rumbled as his eyes twinkled. Damn, he really would do anything for her, wouldn't he?

Truth be told, Modesty had been hopeful that the swim would take some of the edge off the horrible itch that had begun to plague her with the changing of the seasons. She was significantly older and wiser to the meaning now and while they had foregone a litter last year at Sparrow's request, this year circumstances were different. They were under a whole new name, in a whole new location, and a legacy was theirs to establish. Sure, their kids were grown and off making their own mistakes now, but all the ones that had made it past birth were thriving. What more could they ask for?
Water streamed from her long fur as she hauled herself from the waves, deliberately standing alongside Gilgamesh before shaking the oceans worth of weight from her coat. There was nothing quite like saltwater and sun for adding volume to your fur, but they would have to swim back, and that would mean starting the process all over again. She'd be lying to say it didn't feel right to be standing here again, and with just the two of them to see, she wouldn't hide her smile when Gil spoke.
“Well it's about time,” she teased with a shove of her shoulder. Ever since she'd met him he had been certain he was destined for bigger and better things. She took a moment to admire the man she had decided to stick with, how many years ago now? Gosh she supposed if they didn't get a wiggle on, they'd be relying on their own kids to give them grandkids to keep them feeling young.
Modesty moved a little further away from the beach and towards the vegetation, throwing a smirk over her shoulder, she called out “By the way, I never asked... Was your mother a beaver? Cause damn...” Not giving her words a chance to register, she laughed and bounded forward into the dense vegetation. She couldn't make it too easy on him after all.
“Speech.”
Gil would never forget the day they met. If he ever cared to admit it, he probably knew he would fall in love with her that very day. For some reason, there something about her that made want her to stick around. Back then, he didn't care for company. Didn't care for friends or love. He just wanted bloodshed and shenanigans. Now, he could have it all. Realizing that falling for Modesty had probably been the best thing for him, Gil admired the smile on her face. As rugged as he was on the outside, he was a ball of mush on the inside for her.
Even as she shook off her long fur and water came spraying at his face, he could only laugh and squeeze his eyes shut. "Good thing you have patience," he teased back at her as he stuck out his tongue after she bumped shoulders with him. Granted he had been fine being a rank or two beneath Sparrow, he had still worked hard to get where he was and was damn proud of his accomplishments.
He kept his place on the beach as she moved away toward the vegetation. Making it super obvious that he was watching her as she went, he let his eyes soak her in. Yep, they really couldn't let their kids be the ones helping keep them young... With his own itch lighting a fire in his belly, Gil hardly had time to let the terribly fantastic pickup line register in his brain before he was picking up his paws and moved after her.

She wouldn't make the chase too hard on her soon to be husband (hell, did they even need a ceremony at this point?) Modesty took the opportunity to soak up his company and enjoy their small peace while it lasted. After all, she knew that his newest rank would come with even greater responsibility. She wasn't convinced she was made to be a mother, but if he was going to give her the whole archipelago well...
She allowed Gilgamesh to draw close enough so he could hear her when she dropped her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “If we're going to have all this space, then maybe we should do something to fill it, yeah?”
“Speech.”
-fadey fade fade-
Letting out a low chuckle, he closed the space between them. "I guess we have some business to do then," Gil rumbled as he placed his nose upon her cheek for a quick kiss first. He may be an asshole, but he at least knew how to sweet-talk his wife before getting down and dirty.
- fadest of fades -
After all was said and done, Gil would follow Modesty back out to the beach. Sprawling along the fine white sand with his legs outstretched, he rests his chin over her shoulders. Inside, he worries that another problem will happen, but he hopes this time it is better. He tries to keep his feelings inside as he watches the sunset with his lover, wife, soul mate if anyone ever really believed in that kind of stuff. "What kind of names are you thinking this time?" He mumbles as he lets his eyes close for a moment.
