It took some time, but he finally caught the scent of a Polar bear, and hunted it across the trecious, frozen wasteland. His claws dug deep into the snowy terrain for extra traction as he threw himself forward. Moving fast as he followed the creature to its cave. The crisp, cool scents across the snow were easy to track, and he could feel and see each breath he expelled during his journey.

He stopped before the large, looming cave. The scent of bear was thick in the air. It was a male, and alone. That was good. If you hunted too many cubs, you threatened the lines of your prey. Polar bear coats were a great commodity, and needed now more than ever. He heard a growl from deep within the cave. It knew he was out here.

Charlie had followed after his father when he realized that Sirius was leaving the Armada lands. The tawny yearling had been busying himself, from trying to salvage what herbs they could in the woods that weren’t killed off in the frost, hunting small game, patrols, he was busy. He took time to rest when he could get his mind to slow down, but the tragedy of the flood had him even more proactive than before. He could only assume his father was out to gather much needed resources for the pack. They had lost so much of value… herbs, food… even furs to keep the sick warm and comfortable. But man, for a wolf of his age his father was still as nimble as ever. Charlie would laugh at anyone calling the Warlord old. He was sure his father could put any younger wolf in their place.

His father would pause outside a cave and Charlie’s ears perked forward. He had picked up the scent of another predator as he trailed after Seer, and he realized as he drew closer that his father was purposefully seeking the other predator out. Its meat would be rich with fat. They needed it. His paws could be heard crunching the snow, his body slipping into a defensive stance as he moved forward. A low growl, to alert his father that he was there, was given. He wore the brace from his mother, blue gaze narrowed. When the bear came out, he would be ready to aid his father in taking it down.

He turned his head quickly enough for his neck to make a small clicking noise at the sound of a growl. He raised a brow at seeing Charlie there. He hesitated for a moment, a Polar bear was no easy thing to take down, but after a second of thought, he nodded. They needed this, and Charlie had proven himself. He was a bloodied warrior of the Armada, if he thought he could hold his own, he could. Trusting in his kid, he turned his attention back on the cave.

Just in time, as the Polar bear slunk slowly from the shadows. Predators in its domain were too insulting for it to pass up. It growled at the both of them, lumbering slowly forward. Sirius backed up, moving slightly away from Charlie, snarling and lowering his head, and keeping his stance aggressive. As he did so, he indicated with a paw for Charlie to move behind the beast.

His father turned to see him and Charlie gave him a reassuring nod. His father did not know that he and Andy had already fought a polar bear with their companions. If he had known the danger they had put themselves in… but no, Charlie told himself. It was fine. He would approach this fight with a similar mindset to his fight with Andy. He would need to cut the bear's retreat off… but he'd need to be careful too. This was its den and it was a full grown male. It would be more dangerous than the one he and Andy had fought. He would step back, widening his stance to be on the outer circle of the bear where his father would lure it out in the open.

He kept his defenses, moving with purpose as he kept his eyes on the other beast. He wouldn't be reckless. Bit by bit he'd make his way around the beast. He could no longer see its head. For the moment the aggressive presentation of his father had the bear's focus on him. He would need to go for a rear leg and go for a tendon. Crippling it would be important. The less mobility it had, the less of a threat it would be.

He kept the bear's attention. If it looked so much as if it might shake its head, the Warlord took an aggressive step forward. His hackles raised, and a growl in his throat as he threatened the large creature before him. Keeping all of its attention on him as Charlie moved away from him, and slowly positioned himself behind the bear. They did not want to let the bear get back into its cave; it knew the terrain, and the close quarter fighting would be devastating for the wolves. They needed to be able to move to dodge those powerful arms of it.

Once Charlie was in position, the Warlord let out one last roar, and dove forward. Going straight in, hoping and expecting as he did so for Charlie to take advantage of his actions to move in himself. At this stage, Charlie was closer to the bear then Sirius was.

Just as Charlie had trusted his sister Andromeda and her companions, he trusted his father. There was strength in numbers, in strategy, and the younger male pinned his ears against his skull. Closer he drew, fur along his hackles raised and bristled. He could feel adrenaline flooding his veins, the anticipation of the fight to come. Despite a sweeter disposition, Charlie enjoyed the thrill of a fight. But he would not take risks. A polar bear was nothing to fuck with, and if he wasn’t careful here, and his father dove to protect him, Charlie would never forgive himself.

At last he was in position. He waited, body ready to lunge. Just as Andy had, Charlie knew his father would give a signal as he moved in. The roar was it, and both wolves and bear would move. A snarl ripped from Charlie’s lips as he parted his jaws and took a last leap for the leg closest to him. Snap! Down they came with all the force he could muster, long saber tearing into the flesh easily. Then, as he kicked back, Charlie used his saber to slice through muscle as the bear flinched. With his father charging at it head on, it attempted to swing claws at the adult male in an attempt to sweep full circle at the yearling.

Too bad for the bear, the boy was already moving away from it… and it wasn’t like the Warlord was going to let an opening go to waste.
