just oki things

Kuroki went where his women and kids went, it was about as simple as it got. If they were happy here, he was happy here. But man was it cold, a far cry from the tropical beaches and jungles of Ashen he'd once called home. Yeah yeah, he understood it was a Viking thing and all that, but even now he didn't quite understand the whole Viking schtick, the old man was well-good for an old man so Oki had no real beef with him or his way of life but it again was so very different from what seemed to be the standard in his own eyes. He knew Tojo was a thing, had heard about it through the grapevine and knew it was an option if being here really bothered him. But it didn't at the end of the day and seeing Hattori again wasn't exactly high on his list of things he wanted to do right now.
It wasn't as if he hadn't been here before, he had vague memories of scaling the mountain once, seeking out the monastery that was hidden by the jagged peaks above. Maybe he'd make that trek again with the kids, if they felt like it. In the meanwhile he was content enough with punting sticks off the edge of the cliff, listening to them clack and thud as they fell to the valley below.

The move to join her grandfather’s pack had been an unexpected but welcome surprise. Unagi finds that she loves her new snowy mountain home and often likes to bury her bulk underneath drifts to cool off. Being bigger meant that she often got hot while exercising and the powder offers a great opportunity for relief. That is where she is, buried so deeply that only her eyes peek out from the snow, when she had spied her father moving toward the edge of the cliff. Curious, the girl watches him punt objects over the side, listening for the moment that they strike the rocky bottom.
An idea forms in her young mind and the girl quietly stands from her hiding spot. Snow falls from her form, cascading down in a soft curtain, as her she stands to her full height. A smile wiggles Unagi’s lips as she stalks toward her father, trying her best to remain as silent as possible. When she is close enough to touch his rump, the girl calmly says, “What you doin’ dad?” A huge, shit-eating grin is on her lips as she waits to see if she scared her father, hoping that he appreciates the time and effort she has made in developing her skills. After all, she has to be quite so as not to spook prey.
