my mama says that alligators are ornery...

Dawn slowly rose over the eastern shore. Soft hues of oranges, reds, and yellows mixed with the thick clouds that lay low along the skyline. It might snow today. It might just rain. The weather didn't exactly matter to the pup. She didn't quite care if she got dirty, stayed clean, whatever. It didn't matter. Well, maybe a little. Being wet wasn't exactly her favorite thing, but getting caught in a storm didn't sound like a big deal. She would risk it to go explore before everyone got up.
Cal thought the island was nicer when everyone else was asleep. The quiet was nice. The lull of the ocean and the early songs of migrated birds kept her company. Not far off, Urtur followed, knowing he had to at least try and keep an eye on one of the pups. Might as well be Cal, right? Eh, he'd probably regret it later. Considering, as she made her way down the shore toward the bridge that led to the mangroves, a pair of beady eyes blinked at them from the water.
Water between the isle and the mangroves was more brackish than anything. Staying only slightly warmer than the more northern areas, certain large reptiles tended to head down here for the winter. Stay warm, stay alive. What the alligators hadn't expected was the sudden arrival of the wolf pack. Lurking in the shallows, the alligator watched. It locked eyes onto Cal and Urtur before they even knew it was there.
Headed to go get into trouble, Cal did not expect the sudden splashing of water and large jaws coming straight for her. A startled scream ripped from her as she jumped backward and Urtur jumped between her and the alligator. The wolverine hisses and slashes at the reptile while Cal collects herself. No way was she going to let this monster get the better of her! Pissed off, Cal slips around behind Urtur, moving toward the side of the alligator and begins kicking sand at its face.
Warning: Calliope is callous, rude, and unpredictable. Do NOT expect nice things from her.

Tarnish wandered across the rope bridge to Daager Isle planning to do some fishing. When the tide went out sometimes there were interesting fish that looked like they'd be good to eat. Worc knew a lot about different types of fish and promised he'd make sure Tar didn't go eating a poisonous one. The crow had also informed him that the best time to fish was before a storm so after his potty break, rather than head back to the den to keep sleeping, he headed out to fish.
Tarnish was scooting across the sand, picking his way carefully to a tide pool when he heard his sister scream. Aw shit, what now? Dropping his fishing stick he raced to see her fighting the biggest lizard he'd ever seen in his life! As he raced toward his sister's side he yelled out. "The fuck is that!?" He joined his sister, kicking a rock toward the alligator, hoping to hit its face. At the same time Worc dove down, talons lashing at the back of the alligator's head, getting it to spin and snap at him before he took off higher into the sky.

Before she knew it, Tarnish was by her side, kicking and throwing rocks at the beast. "I DON'T KNOW!" Calliope shrieks as she continues to kick sand at the alligator's face. Urtur is fending off the reptile with his claws and loud snarls as Tarnish's companion dives down from the skies. Once the reptile spins to attack the bird, Calliope takes her chance. The young pup lunges forward to try and bite at the alligator. When her teeth don't pierce the skin, she falls backward almost onto her butt. "His skin is super hard!" Calliope calls out to Tarnish as she scoots backward and kicks around rock at the beast. In the meantime, Urtur slashes at the alligator's face, trying to blind it while hoping for a chance to end its life or scare it enough to make it run away.

Tarnish wasn't sure why he expected his sister to know. She always seemed to just know things but this new beast was just as strange to her. Maybe it was some sort of dragon! Tarnish cheered as Worc flew down, talons tearing at the gator's face before he flew back up into the sky. Calliope took a shot at the gator but then warned that its skin was super hard. Well, shit! What were they supposed to do now? Tarnish took his own chance, darting forward and lashing his claws out at the creature's tail. His claws dug in a bit but it was like scraping against the thick, tanned hides that made up some of the raiders armor. The gator sensed the attack and whirled around. Tarnish screamed and scrambled up the nearest tree, climbing up to a branch just as the alligator seemed to leap out of the water at him. Its jaws just missed his tail as it crashed back into the water.

Calliope pedals backward in the shallow water and sand as Tarnish goes for the alligator's tail. The swinging motion of the large beast twirling around to chase her brother causes her own resounding scream to echo across the beach. Watching in slight horror as her brother scrambles up a tree and the reptile crashes back into the water, she's unsure what to do. Now that she is the only wolf on the ground, the gator turns its attention back to her. Letting out a growl, Cal takes a moment to glare at her brother.
"Well how ya gonna be of any help up there?!" She screeches as she pedals back a few more feet to avoid the snapping jaw of the predator. Her heart rate is racing, pounding in her chest, feeling as if its starting to get hard to breathe. Surely they would be able to scare it away! Right? Right?! Cal sucks in a breath, trying to calm herself before she begins to bark at the gator. Her own teeth gnashing in its direction as she kicks sand back at its face. The gator steps back, and shakes its face to rid of the sand. "Jump on it Tar! We gotta scare it off!" Cal screams at her brother knowing full well they aren't big or strong enough to kill this thing.

Tarnish clung tight to the tree, trying to think of what they could possibly do to defeat this thing. Right now his only thought was just getting away from it or at least buying time to think. "Get up here! We need a plan!" He felt silly almost as soon as he said it. Not all his siblings had claws like his. He didn't know what climbing abilities his sister had if any. "Hang on, I'm on my way!" He leapt to another branch, sizing up his approach and when she screamed at him to jump on it he did so without a thought of his own safety. He landed square on the face, Instinctively his arms wrapped around the gator's jaws, his claws digging into the flesh under the lower jaw. The gator began to thrash, trying to shake him off but he was surprised to find he was just strong enough to keep the mouth shut. "What now! What now!" He cried, knowing any second it was going to retreat back to the water.
