All sorts of unwelcome guests managed to slip past the Bay's netting system. For the most part they were easily ousted, killed or chased off, but this visitor would be tricky indeed. Hattori had only noticed the stingray by chance, realised the fish were giving a particular sandy bank a wide berth, as though fully aware of the danger that had burrowed its way into the sand. It was only when it moved did he see it with his own eyes from the safety of the floating bamboo bridge, and he knew better than to try to dive into the water and fish it out himself.

So what were his options? Use some netting? His eyes narrowed as he pursed his lips, intent on thinking on this some more before he took action.

Admittedly, Usagi didn’t venture to the Bay very often. His brother practically lived in it and he did. Relishing the waters and maintaining the nets that caught the fish they fed upon. Kuroo knew all too well that Usagi had a dislike for the water and for fishing in general; too slimey, too wet, and he despised the feeling of a pelt soaked heavily in water, dragging him down. Ugh. Today, however, Usagi felt pulled to the waters; approaching the bay’s sandy maw he noticed Hattori already poised at the bridge that overlooked the turqoise pool. He was puzzled by something, eyes narrowed and clearly thinking. As he approached, he noticed the thing that Hattori was so curious about — a flat creature, eyes placed weirdly upon its diamond shaped form, floppy, and a little stinging tail at the end. Even he knew not to pounce on it, glancing up at his place next to the bridge. ”What exactly is it?” ”Speech”  ’Thought’

Hattori glanced over his shoulder as Usagi approached, a slight hum in his throat to acknowledge and welcome his presence. Who could he trust, if not Usagi?

"A stingray, I believe." He squinted down at the grey shape beneath the waves, knowing full well it wouldn't be worth the risk trying to attack it in its own element. Tojo had talented healers of course, but it wasn't a risk even worth considering. Stepping off of the bridge, he grabbed a hold of a bamboo spear that was unsurprisingly used for spear fishing.  Returning to the bridge, he leaned it against the railing so he could speak clearly. "Perhaps if we sever its tail it would be safe enough to drag it onto land."

Putting his plan into action, he angled the spear and took aim. Jabbing it down upon the beasts tail. Once it was pinned, he thought the worst of it was over...only for the ray to come surging out of the water towards them. Well- Hattori certainly hadn't expected that.

Stingray. What a ridiculous yet befitting name of such an animal, woth its flattened body and strange whipping tail. Hattori suggested if they cut off its tail, the stinger portion would no longer be a threat. Usagi agreed, nodding his head as his superior pulled out a bamboo spear, aiming it directly onto its tail. The spear makes contact with flesh, but not before the stingray flails wildly, surging towards Hattori. Perhaps partially due to instinct, or reflexes as well, Usagi quickly jutted out a hind paw at its exposed underbelly, punting it backwards as it flapped from the impact like a sentient pancake. ”Speech”  ’Thought’

Hattori grunted as Usagi kicked the ray out of reach before it could even get close. Turning to quickly pin the creature down, it was far easier said than done, with wings powerful enough to soar through the waves it put up an impressive struggle as Hattori shoved his weight upon it with his paws. Even on land where it couldn't breathe it wouldn't go down without a fight, it seemed. Even with its severed tail, the scent of blood and the spray of water droplets as it flailed, it was harder to hold it down than Hattori had anticipated.

The creature flapped angrily beneath even Hattori’s impressive weight — it was almost surprising that such a flat, seemingly dumb creature could even be capable of such fury. Blood from its severed tail made the waters murky with crimson, clouding its serene hues as Usagi pulled out his double bladed sword. No time like the present, then, to end its life. Usagi timed its flailing and careful to avoid Hattori’s paws — as it rose one more time, Usagi’s blade penetrated right through its body, effectively ending its life and ceasing all flapping immediately. Even he was a tad out of breath, mustering a sharp inhale as he rinsed his one blade in the water before sheathing it. ”Is it even edible?” ”Speech”  ’Thought’
