all that glitters is...silver?

As long as she stayed within pack lands and had Hem with her, she didn't see it as rule breaking. From the mainland of the Avian Estuary, Silver Island was tempting. Pale shores that glittered beneath an evening sun, its sparkle inviting her over. The swim over hadn't been terrible either. With Hem swimming beside her in case she needed a break, the waters had been calm, though frigidly cold - at least for this small pup. Even as they splashed up through those shallow waters, a sweet fruit filled breeze wafting by them, Gem was tired but excited. Her water logged tail swung back and forth as she looked around, Hem beside her grumbling and growling about how they shouldn't have gone out here. Oh well! They were here now! Taking a few steps away from the water toward the lofty palm trees, she catches sight of someone else. Deep blues and vibrant reds are unfamiliar as she turns her bright gaze toward him. Head canting to the side, Gem hesitates, Hem bristles beside her. "You think he's supposed to be here?" She whispers to her companion who can't decide if its smarter to stay at the pup's side to protect or to go back and alert someone of the trespasser. Without a reply from the dog, Gem approaches with a bright smile anyway, even if her heart races a little bit. She's not the bravest of the bunch by far. "Hi, sir! Do you want a tour? I live here with my daddy," Gem turns her chin up to the large man, smile wide but wavering. |

Ronan paused as the pup approached, all chipper and cheerful, like a lot of kids tended to be. To be honest, he wasn't about sticking his nose in other peoples businesses. This was likely her home and she sure seemed to think she was being friendly, but he didn't intend to hang around for long. Just a quick whiff, then go on his way. As far as he was concerned, he wasn't trespassing, he hadn't set a single paw upon their shore and had pointedly remained in the water, the tide had rolled out a few hours ago, effectively giving the loner a little more legroom. "Hey kid." He uttered, soft enough for a man as gruff as him. He almost felt bad for turning her down- she seemed sweet. "That won't be necessary, just catching my breath." Ronan had no interest in setting paw upon their land and trespassing, wolves didn't have outright territory where he came from, not in the same way at least, but he knew the rules as well as anyone else. He waded a little deeper, noticing how a small school of fish darted away at his approach. The water here was crystal clear, the sand beneath his paws a little darker due to it being saturated with water and all. He could see coral beyond the waves, flashes of colour, this island would make a good fishing outpost, he observed. With the bounty of fish in these parts it felt safe to assume sharks were probably swimming about too- best the little one keep out of the water then. |

Being as young as she was, Gem didn't understand the logistics or politics of no man's land. That finite area between safe and unsafe. To her, he was close enough that well, it was her daddy's land so therefore he had to watch what he was doing! Her eyes never leave him either, watching as he wades deeper, looking at the coral and schools of fish. His deterring words cause her brow to furrow, a frown to lace her lips. "Awe c'mon! It'd be fun!" Gem pleads, her eyes widening, giving him that puppy-dog stare that no one could say no to. "Just look! There's so much fruit and pretty flowers to look at," Gem turns slightly toward the inner workings of the islands. Through the shadows of the palms, one could see vines with bright purple flowers. Mango trees began to bend from the weight of ripe fruit. Everything that would tempt a loner just out of reach. A place to rest, something to eat, safety and necessities bountiful. Looking back at the man who purposefully stood in the water, she hesitates again, wondering if there was more to the story than just "catching his breath." |

Ronan groaned, ears flattening in frustration. More at himself than the girl, that he was even being remotely swayed by her. It was just easier to say no and go about his day, because from what he knew of the world nothing was offered for free. And no, he wasn't saying he thought the pup was trying to swindle him or anything, but consequence wise? He wanted none of that.
"I can see that, his voice was a little firmer now, an edge of no nonsense. "Not everyone deserves to see your flowerd and pretty fruits, they're yours. No one elses." He turned to leave, eyes scanning the water and the distance he'd need to swim to make it back to the mainland. The water looks calm enough, he'd have to go back the way he came to skirt around the rest of this pack's territory. It seemed like they'd claimed most of the south-western coast on this side, he doubted they'd appreciate him lingering for much longer, regardless of what side of the border he was on.
He glanced at the hound who seemed to be guarding her, a servant type from the look of. Typical, he thought.
"Watch her on her swim back, there's sharks. He told the dog. leaving to go on his not so merry way.

Gem doesn't quite understand why the man is being so... stern with her. She was offering him a tour of the island after all! And why were the flowers and fruits all hers but no one else's? Her head tilts, confusion crossing over her now squinting face and frowning lips. "But," she trails off, unable to find any other words to convince him to stick around. Maybe he knew her dad wouldn't be too happy with him here? Was he dangerous? Gem looks at him, but doesn't feel... scared. He doesn't look like a threat. A bit of a huff escapes her, even a stomp of her paw. "Well, fine. Be safe," Gem calls back as he recedes into the waters. Hem protectively moves to stand slightly in front of her, eyes following the man that warned him of sharks. Gem looks to Hem, more confusion on her gaze. "What's a shark?" She asks quietly to which the dog shrugs. Had to be something dangerous, right? Turning to look back at the mainland where their home was, Gem watched the waters. Little fins stick out above the surface, swimming in circles and repeating patterns. Were those the sharks that the man warned her about? She didn't think fish could come on land though... Right? "I guess we should head back," Gem says quietly, her frown further creasing. Before she can move toward the water, Hem motions back toward the trees. A quiet bark and nudge of a nose, Gem looks at the fruit that hangs heavy from low branches. "Ah, a snack first, of course!" Her tail wags, her frown turning into a smile. "Those mangoes look ripe," she mentions as she heads straight toward the small grove that grows in the heart of the island's foliage. |
