It was sometime past late when the red-toned wolf trotted into the veteran’s plateau. It had been a long trek from where his band had made beach on this strange, foreign soil. But once he had started his trott, he hadn’t been included to stop it. Here, here was something new. A fresh start. Here at last he had seen his chance to shed the weights of the past that had been holding him down.

He could still scent their blood, hear their shocked cries. Why! why was he betraying them? They would never understand his answer. He wasn’t entirely sure that he did, except for finding for himself the chance to choose. choice was something that had been denied to him for so long. He intended to reveal in it, to enjoy this new freedom in whichever manner he wished.

He was both tired from the long walk, and electric and alive from all that had happened. The night sky had at some point turned into something strange, and colourful. A shimmering light that danced in the air above him. There was the faint scent of strangers around him. Always strangers, only strangers. He had only newness in front of him now. He was desperate to let out some steam, to shake out the energy in his veins. He lifted his head and rolled out a challenge.

Lumine was young, that much is true, but her father (at least, let's not ask her mother's opinion) is open to freedom. A taste of it here and there as long as she is safe, and doesn't trespass, she would be free to wander. Plus, she has one of the bear dogs and her two mini reindeers with her in tow. The three companions are basically her size, if not a few inches taller, so surely a pack of four would be enough to fend off any predator or enemy. All she wants to do is explore. See the world. Experience what all is out there compared to the place she calls home, Fenrir's Maw. There on the mountain, she knows everything, sees everything. Out there though? She knows nothing.

Atop Fenrir's Maw, the moon always appeared larger than it really was. But out here? In that wide, open field, it was enormous. Lumine is impressed, awed, amazed. It is obvious in the way her mouth hangs agape and her icy blues stare wide at the night sky. She can barely see the stars for how bright the moon is. And on top of that? The aurora borealis is showing its true colors. Which was... odd for this time of year and position of the world. As far as her father had explained, they should have only been able to see the colors in the sky during winter and farther north. So what was it doing down here in the middle of Boreas?

While she is staring in both awe and confusion, her attention is quickly pulled to a sound. A call actually from another wolf. A stranger by the looks of it as she turns to see where the beckoning challenge echoed from. The boy is older than her and much taller, basically the size and appearance of her father with the addition of fiery flames licking over his fur. Though she is young, she would not turn down an opportunity to test her strength.

Approaching the boy, Lumine raises her head tall, a firm and brave expression on her face. "I answer your challenge," she says, trying her best to sound adult-like though it is obvious she's only a pup.

While he waited to see if he would gain an answer with his challenge, the young mercenary continued to let his eyes wander to the night sky. He had never been the type to stop and smell the roses, but there was something off about the colours dancing above him. In truth, he had never seen anything like it before. He was in a new world now, perhaps he just had to accept that new rules applied. He’d never had the time or space to question nature before, and he’d sure as shit never had someone to answer a curious pups questions.

But the sight in front of him told him he was going to have to learn the rules of this place, and quickly if he was to survive it. He didn’t expect anything in front of him to be easy - but the choice of how he approached it was his own now. He took in a deep breath, still catching a hint of blood on his coat. He grinned. Yeah, he was going to enjoy the challenges of Boreas.

When an answer came in the form of a little star-coloured wolf, he blinked in surprise. Tilting his head down towards them. A pup wasn't exactly what he had in mind. But if the kid was out here unsupervised and answering calls for blood… that wasn't really his problem. He did look past her, half expecting to see some folk behind her. But what sort of parents would let her fight a stranger in the night, he didn’t know. He turned his attention back to her, looking steadily down at the girl. He thought of her parents, and how they would feel if he hurt or stole away their little girl. Now that might be an interesting challenge. Or… perhaps she had a past similar to his own. A reckless orphan, running amok.

“You always answer calls for blood in the night?” He asked, his rough voice a little wry. He wondered if she would have a response to that. “If you go ahead with this, I won’t take it easy on you.” He warned her. Almost a kindness, and it would be the only one she would get from him. He was out for blood, and he didn't intend to change course because the one who answered his call was barely potty trained. When it was clear she was determined to stay the course, he shrugged. He would take any consequences of tussling with her. He let his body fall into the familiar stance of a fight. Adjusting his balance and defences on the fly, as he closed the distance between them.

He had to adjust his style, purely because of the size distances between them. He kicked out with a paw, aiming to hit her right foreleg and knock her off balance. In the same instance, his teeth snagged forward. Attempting to grab her by the scruff of the neck. As if she was a child. Which… was exactly what she was.

Standing beneath the bright moonlight, the darker parts of her body were almost hidden. The parts of body painted white were lit by the moon's glow that was larger than she had ever seen. Honestly, it was almost hard to see anything else around her. Even the older boy that she approached was shadowed by the large moon as his coat was darker than hers, flecked only by the flickering embers of a fire. How was she to fight in such conditions? He was indeed older, larger, and probably more experienced than she was which was fine when she thought about it, but the terrain was difficult. Crude materials stuck out from the ground and presented a hazard that she would have to be aware of - just as much as she was to be aware of him too.

His questions drags her piercing blue gaze up to his face. A slight tilt of her head as she considers what he says. "I suppose I do not. I don't have much preference for time of day or night," Lumine responds, not quite understanding the weight of what he was asking. She answered honestly which was about par for a pup her age. His next words though have her sliding into a defensive stature, fur puffing up to help her appear larger. Having brothers truly did help keep her on her toes. "I would expect no less," the pup replies as she further readies herself for whatever he has planned for their fight.

Focused on watching his every move, Lumine's eyes train on his face, fully expecting him to try and scruff her like her parents had when they helped train her or she wasn't following rules. But instead of teeth, she is met with a paw to her leg that forces her to stumble backward and let out a cry of surprise. Frustrated to have been taken by surprise like that, Lumine lets out a growl and shifts her weight to rebalance and ready for her counter. Before she can, his midnight form is suddenly hovering over her, nearly blocking out all the light the moon washes over the ground. As he grabs ahold of her scruff, lifting her from the ground, she begins to twist and writhe, going absolutely haywire in an attempt to scratch him anywhere she can.
