trying out this whole "dad" thing
Cressida

Parenthood isn't the easiest for him. Being raised by... well two wolves that were trying, it had been rocky in the beginning. The first litter was always a crap shoot and he was sure now that at the time, his parents definitely hadn't been ready for pups either. But, he would try anyway. If not for his parents, for Ely because she wanted to be a good mum and she wanted the pups to know both of them. He wasn't quite sure why, but he wasn't going to argue with the hormonally eruptive female that he had indeed impregnated. Looking down at the colorful and gangly pups, there was no doubt that they were his. Really, they looked more like his parents (except for Maelstrom) than they did he or Ely, but perhaps it was just strong genetics? Who knew because he surely didn't. Clearing his throat, he reaches a paw out to nudge at the pups to see who would want his attention for the afternoon. When Cressida is the one to look at him first, he gives her a hesitant smile before nodding his nose toward the outside of the nose. "Aight miss, show me what ya'd like to do today," his voice is a bit shaky, but he holds strong... For now. |

Aresenn had been out patrolling the border when he discovered the scent trail of someone who didn’t belong entering pack lands. It was not a totally unexpected discovery – it seemed that trespassers had become especially bold since they claimed the Polar Sound. But he was aware of Elysia’s litter, and their mixed pack heritage. When Absinth had told him who had sired the lot, he couldn’t help but be amused at how deeply Pirates Plunder had been ingrained in the heart of Syndicate. However, there were still rules he had to uphold- and he was an enforcer.
It didn’t take him long to track Scald - finding him with one of his daughters among the pines of the valley. Aresenn was gradual with his approach - not openly confrontational. And as he drew into a conversational distance, he cleared his voice to call out. “Scald.” He didn’t acknowledge the girl- he didn’t know how Elysia chose to parent her children, and it certainly wasn’t his job to do so. Maybe it was because he had his own pups now that made him think of things differently, but he didn’t want to make this a physical altercation for him in front of his kid. Perhaps he was the only Syndicate lackey who would feel that way. But he made it clear in the tone of his voice that he was not requesting the Raider brute’s attention - he was demanding it.

"Teach me how to hunt, father." The bold statement has his eyes widening for a moment. Surely the tenacity of this one came from Elysia, not him. More subdued compared to those he's grown up with, Scald quickly recovers, giving her an affirming nod. Hunting he could teach especially to a pup. There wasn't much she could do yet on her own anyway. Scald is attune to the world around him as he begins to lead her farther away from the den. His plan was to find a nest or den of some sort as a starting point for their lesson when a sound catches his attention. Pausing to look, he is surprised to see the approach of Aresenn. A face he hadn't seen in a very long time. Scald assesses the man, taking in the obvious Syndicate scent and the demanding but calm disposition. So this is where he'd ran off to... Scald thinks to himself as Aresenn demands attention. A brow lifts, fully turning to face the fiery-coated Syndicate as he casually shifts to be more in front of Cressida rather than beside her. Even if Aresenn wasn't intent on violence, his newly found protective instinct would insist that the pup's wellbeing came first. "Aresenn," Scald begins, voice tentative as he remains relaxed. "Didn't think I'd ever see you again," he comments, curious to what brought him over here. Had Elysia not informed the Syndicate that he would be lingering at least until she figured out what she wanted from him? |

Aresenn's gaze didn't flicker, his steely orange eyes locked onto Scald as the other wolf moved to shield Cressida. The Emir held himself tall, without a second glance to the child. No, his attention was fixed on Scaled- noticing the surprised look in the other brute’s eyes. His own eyes narrowed slightly, lips pressed into a thin, rigid line. "I didn't anticipate our paths crossing either," he returned, the words slipping from his mouth effortlessly, cool and controlled. His voice was a low growl, resonant and full of unspoken authority. "But your presence here is a matter in need of address." His voice was firm, solid with his resolve.
Aresenn heard the girl speak up, question who he was. What it was that they had done wrong. Again, he wasn’t interested in making this a teaching moment- but he supposed that an introduction for Scald’s sake would be of benefit. “I am the Emir of the Syndicate - second only to the Sultan.” Aresenn began, his voice a controlled rumble. “And you haven’t been granted permission to be here. Nor have you or Elysia even asked to the best of my knowledge.” His attention never straying from the Raider brute who stood before him. "As there is no existing agreement between Raider's Hollow and the Syndicate, you are trespassing." he continued, looking for any sort of recognition in Scald's expression as he spoke.
“The Sultan has set a strict precedent on how trespassers should be dealt with. But since you are the presumed father of Elysia’s brood, I will give you a single opportunity to leave peacefully.” And I advise that you take it. The tone of his ultimatum was as unyielding as the sheer cliffs surrounding Polar Sound. As to how Scald would answer him, he was curious to find out.

The seriousness in which Aresenn speaks to him is clear. For anyone else, Scald would understand that the tone would be necessary, but unlike the rest of his bunch, he never cared much for breaking rules. A little trespass here and there sure, but it was always his life over theirs. Keeping his gaze level with Aresenn, posture relaxed and open, he nods softly in understanding. If it had not been for Cressida speaking up, Scald would not have needed any other words from Aresenn to understand what the brute wanted. But of course, with an attitude like her mother, the pastel girl speaks as if she owns the world. A tired sigh slips from his muzzle before he takes a paw to forcibly move the girl backward before she could do anything else. With his attention back on Aresenn, he nods once more. “I appreciate the generosity,” he replies, sarcasm slipping into his tone, a saccharine smile sliding over his expression. “Allow me to return Cressida to Elysia so I may say goodbye to all of them and then I will be on my way,” Scald lifts a brow, questioning if the deal would be sufficient for the Emir. |
