To One In Paradise

Or so hideous He stumbled on the raised roots of the willows as he wandered. Three legs made balance hard and often times he found his footing uneven. Especially now. Some runner he was, a three legged monster barely capable of navigating through willow trees. Fireflies buzzed around his muzzle, a pleasant sight for a wretched creature like him. All around him he heard the sounds of nature. Of nightingales singing to the moon, of dragonflies buzzing about the shallow water, once or twice he saw river crab scuttle away from him for fear of getting crushed. Truly it was a magical place, but what a shame that he had to enjoy it alone. Helen would have loved it. A sobering thought. He could imagine her laying against his plush, furry chest as they watched the fireflies, both of them smiling and happy. Only a dream now. Only a dream. He was alone. And his "plush" fur was gone. His hips fell to the ground with a soft thump. He needed to regain his composure. He needed to keep moving. He needed to leave this place of beauty where he did not belong. Speech |
