Disaster
As of late, Scald had intended to either stay home or travel to Syndicate territory. After receiving a strict no trespassing warning, he found himself more at home than anywhere else. Which ended up making him restless. Unable to know how his new pups were doing, he often sent his spoonbill companion out to communicate with their mother about it. Yet, he still felt plagued. Could he have done better? Done more? Frustrated with himself and confused with the feelings that he felt heavily in his chest, Scald ventured out that warm day. The humid and sticky air clung to his coat and coated his lungs. Maybe he should've just gone to the beach... Already feeling thirsty, he let his ears guide him down into the cooler caverns of the deluge. Thick moss stifles the sound of his step as he approaches the stream. Quickly slaking his thirst, he is soon pulled away to look toward where a voice calls out from. Within the dim light, he sees the cream colored fae standing there quite hesitantly. Was she afraid of something? Glancing around, he doesn't notice any predators aside from himself. "The name's Scald," he calls out casually, his tone light and friendly. "Over by the stream here," placing a paw in the water, he splashes the surface a few times to alert her to where he stood. "Ain' nothin' down here that's gonna hurt ya," Scald mentions as he turns to see if she'll come any closer. |

Identification had always felt lost, ensnared in her own thoughts. However, her adventures and exploration of the land offered some solace. A sudden sound caught her off guard, causing her ears to perk up as she listened to the other’s voice. At least he introduced himself— that was a good sign, right? She tucked his name away in her mind as the gentle sound of rippling water approached from the small embankment. “It’s nice to meet you, Scald. I go by Identification,” she said, moving closer to the water. Suddenly, a snake darted out of sight, making her jump. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to those pesky nope ropes,” she admitted with a nervous laugh, glancing at the male beside her. Here, at least, she felt a sense of calm, even if she was still startled.
The sensation of moss beneath her paws was a welcome change. She cautiously crept forward, her pink tongue stretching out to take a sip from the water. After drinking, she lifted her head to speak. “I mean, snakes can be dangerous.” A nervous chuckle escaped her; she had never liked snakes—not even a little. To her, they were nothing more than “nope ropes.” “Where does this place lead? Or is it just an empty shelter for wanderers like us?” she inquired. Although she appreciated having someone to converse with, she couldn’t help but wonder if he meant her any harm. He certainly didn’t speak like anyone else from Boreas, his accent setting him apart. But Fic wasn’t one to judge; especially if he didn’t judge her. The air around them felt cooler and more inviting, and she sighed in relief.
Fic lowered herself gently onto the moss, her belly basking in its refreshing coolness. She stretched her front paws out before her, her emerald eyes glancing at Scald and then toward the water that awaited the thirsty travelers. She wondered about his origins; he carried the scent of the beach—salty air and driftwood. The thought of asking him crossed her mind, but she chose to set it aside, preferring instead to simply enjoy the company that had come her way.
"Identifacation?" Scald repeats curiously, brow scrunching momentarily. Was she serious? Did... someone really name their pup Identification? "Anythin' else ya go by?" He asks casually as he watches her startle suddenly from a snake gliding by. Stifling the snort of laughter with a glance toward the darkness of the cavern beyond, he gives her a quick nod of agreement. "They can really pop out time ta time," he replies as he takes a resetting breath and looks back to her. Watching her cautiously sip from the stream, he can't help but notice her hesitancy. For someone who spoke so much, she sure seemed weary of strangers... As she lowered herself onto the mossy bed of the stone floor, Scald looks once more to the darker shadowed corners. Letting out a hum, he shrugs his shoulders after a moment. "Not sure really," he admits, swiveling himself slightly to better face where she was now laying. Without anything much else to do today, he was content to keep the girl company for now. Lowering his own rump onto the moss, he relaxes and continues to glance around the deluge's dim interior. "Bit a explorer myself, but never came down 'ere before," Scald offers another admittance, another shrug of his shoulders. |

He questioned her name, as she turned her head slightly away. Shying away from the roll of her name from his tongue that held her name. Never honestly taking thought to it, a silent sigh slipping out with a breath. Somehow the woman felt embaressed in a sense. As he asked about another name - she thought of the one a friend had gifted her. A wave of her tail, "Fic - I go by Fic." Her stomach turned into a knot.
She hid it though well, a nervous chuckle. "They honestly really do. Them and spiders scare me." Least the woman was honest, she wasn't much a fan of either of those creatures. Giving a quick snort of displeasure. Wondering soon enough if he'd like wander and see if this cave gave way to other areas. A thought flowed through her mind. As a thought of Scald wanting to harm her if they went exploring together.
"We can always check it out, I mean if you would like too." A curious glint showed within her eyes as she rose up quickly to her paws. Shaking out her creamy coat. "Come on! It could be fun!" She chuckled as taking a quick step over the water and looking to him then to the depths, the woman however didn't notice that she was close to him, invading his personal space. Her paws setting into movement yet again.
Scald brushes off her honest admission of fearing spiders and snakes. Everyone had their fears, rational or not. He couldn't quite say what his was off the top of his head, but it was probably something stupid. Like getting punted by a crazed maniac who had just attacked a pregnant lady giving birth. Yeah, that happened. His head gives a little shake to rid of the sudden disturbing thought to feel the air stir nearby. It is almost as if he just sat down, she's popping up onto her paws with renewed excitement. Looking at Fic with a canted head, he considers her suggestion to explore with fake hesitancy. "Ohh, maaaybe," he says playfully, noticing how she gets close to his personal space for a moment before crossing the stream. Hm, did the cautious girl had a flirt streak? His interest is piqued now as he brings his taller stature to stand. Giving his own coat a quick shake, he follows after the cream fae with quiet steps. "Just careful for bears. They're known to live down 'ere," Scald warns, a bit seriously this time, as he gives her a cheeky grin. Maybe if she got a bit more scared, she'd be willing to cuddle up to him later. |

It appeared his plan was working. At the mention of bears, Scald watches Fic quickly turn about and move herself to be better aligned with him shoulder to shoulder. He smiles casually in a charming manner, pleased that his tactic was working. Chuckling lightly, he leans over to bump her shoulder with his own in a comforting manner. "If we come 'cross a bear, I'll 'andle it," he reassures her with a fake confidence that easily hides his real feeling about the large ursine. Clearly, he would not be able to fight a bear off by himself, but if he needed to, he could at least distract it enough so she could escape. Enjoying the closeness of her warmth, he lets a companionable silence fall over them. His heterochromatic eyes wander the dim cavern, noticing how the cavern ceiling drips with water, easily giving the moss they walk upon a source for their thirst. It also seemed that the deluge would actually go on and on forever with many other hallways sprouting off in different directions. "I can see why wolves ain' fon' of it down 'ere," Scald comments after a few minutes. Ears flicking backward a moment as a drop of water plunks on top of his head. |
