This was not one of Atreyu's favorite places. She had never been here before, but luckily some of the river lands of Judila were swampy, just like this. Still, Atreyu had never liked those places either. Most of the time she avoided them because of the alligators, fierce deadly beasts. She didn't exactly fear them, but she did have a healthy respect for their teeth. There was no way she wanted to be on the side of those giant lizards with the teeth. Traversing the swampy terrain proved difficult, but Atreyu had some practice and still managed to look rather graceful as she hopped and stepped over water holes and mud bogs.

One step, however, seemed to be exceptionally ill-fated. Thinking she stepped on a large stone to get to the other side of a rivulet, Atreyu mistakenly placed her paw directly onto the head of a massive alligator. The alligator was not happy about having his nap interrupted, of course. Her first clue that she had messed up was the rock shifting beneath her paw, dread instantly filled her to the brim. Please be a turtle... She prayed, but it did no good this time. Suddenly, the water was whipped into a frenzy and Atreyu found herself forced to jump to shore.

Her leap was not entirely successful, unfortunately, and Atreyu landed half in the water and half on the bank. The alligator was coming up fast, jaws agape at her. Waiting for the last moment, Atreyu pushed herself out of the way just in time, the alligator's jaws closing on the now-empty bank. Now in the water, Atreyu had no choice but to cry out, "Help! Somebody help!" The gator was coming at her again, Atreyu scrambling to get out of the water with the beast right on her tail.

Xurek was not exactly pleased to be in such a place. His large hooves troubled keeping above the surface of the land. Pockets of mud and thick sand clung to his feathered legs as he wandered. It was necessary though. He was instructed to go scouting nearby areas to see which ones would be most viable for their expansion or movement. So far, this place was a hard no. Even though it had plenty of shade and flora to munch on, it was proving to be quite dangerous. Someone could easily snap a leg bone here...

Or get into a struggle with an alligator. The sudden scream that pierced the air sends his head turning, eyes alert and roving for the movement. There, not far off, in some water, a bright pink wolf stumbles as a large alligator moves after her. Xurek is not a valiant creature, nor he is heroic or sympathetic. He's tempted to leave her there to die. Why would she do such a thing? Flaring his nostrils, contemplating his next move, he knows he'll regret it later as he begins to move his massive body forward.

The head of the alligator would make for good armor, he decides that now as he closes the space between himself and the wolf. Noticing how the alligator's tail was still mostly on the bank, Xurek leaps forward and slams his front hooves atop the alligator's heavily armored tail. "Move," he commands the wolf in his thick and deep voice, ears flattened and lips peeled back in a sneer at the reptile turns to snap in his direction.

The sound of someone approaching sent a shockwave of relief through the pink spotted dire wolf, his command a bit unnecessary as he stomped on the alligator's tail. Nevermind that her rescuer happened to be her favorite kind of prey, she would stay her fangs from him. He saved her and as the alligator turned around to snap at the stallion, Atreyu moved in a flash to pull herself up onto the bank and turns to quickly aim a bite at the side of the giant reptile. She wasn't going to let it bite her rescuer, one snap of those jaws and it was over for the thickly built horse. The look of him made her mouth water, so much horse meat, but she wasn't ready to face those awesome tusks he sported. Atreyu wasn't stupid.

They had more pressing matters in front of them. Atreyu grabbed the forelimb of the alligator and pulled one of its own tricks out of her hat. She dropped down to the ground and rolled with the gator's leg in her mouth, twisting it until the lizard turned on her. Maybe the horse would work with her to kill the creature, Atreyu needed it on its back. She was not going to run away, she would fight with the horse to rid the swamp of this monstrous alligator.
