PLEASURE IN THE PROCESS
XL Hunting Party 6+
Enyo padded silently through the tall emerald grasses, each massive paw falling deliberately despite her size. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver light over the rolling expanse of Emerald Valley. The sweet scent of lush grasses filled the air, mingling with the earthy aroma of damp soil as Enyo stood tall stretched before her. The area was rich and alive with the scent of prey. Her head remained high, posture exuding the unshakable confidence that came as naturally to her as breathing.
Her thick, velvety voice quietly glided through the cool morning air, low and commanding as she addressed the wolves following behind her. "Stay sharp," she rumbled. "Our target is close. The scent isn't as stale as it was before. Keep an eye out for any signs of activity. Footsteps, dung, rooting... anything." The familiar tang of the hippo lingered in her nostrils. A musky, heavy, and unmistakable stench. A challenging hunt. Perfect.
Enyo's eyes scanned the horizon, the tall grasses shifting as her muscular form wove through them. She was built for this each powerful limb, broad shoulder, and thick neck designed to bring down prey far larger than herself. The thick fur that shielded her from harsher climates now clung close to her skin, damp with the moisture of the valley’s humid mist.
Despite the grand task ahead, her mind briefly wandered, envying the respect that would be automatic if she were born male. This hunt would remind them all of her dominance, her strength, and her irrefutable place at the top, even if she had to constantly prove it. Nike’s voice echoed in her memory, If you had been born a man, you would have undoubtedly been remembered as one of the greats in history, my dear.
Her jaw clenched at the thought. She would be remembered, regardless.
The group slowed as the scent thickened. She paused, lifting her head to catch the faintest sounds in the wind.

A hunt was underway, and Ripper was eager to...well...rip apart their target! He glanced at his brother Grim with barely contained excitement and glee, practically wanting to run out of his skin already to start chasing down their quarry. But...the issue with that was he didn't know what they were hunting yet. One of the newer members was leading the hunt, though the young male paid no mind to her air of confidence as such things were lost on him, up and over his head. The only one he cared to respect was Mother Medusa until, maybe, others earned that spot too. He trounced along with the group, bi-colored gaze searching and nose twitching as he tried to pick out a scent among the pack wolves.
They would arrived at Emerald Valley, a cacophony of scents wafting around him. Breaking off slightly from the group with Grim in tow, he saw some weird tracks and boy did they look deep! Whatever it was appeared to be big and heavy. Musky smelling even. Its strong stench lingering in the air. "Ooh! Ooh! Ripper found something!" He nearly shouted, excited that he had found the tracks of whatever beast they belonged to.

|| "Thoughts"
To be honest Identification had no idea as to why she wanted to join in with the hunt that Enyo has taken the time to get together, gathering those that were brave enough to do so. It was going to take time and patience especially taking down a large hippopotamus that lived in a large to medium sized school. It wasn't going to be easy to say the least, but the reward was worth the risk of everything at hand. She also heard stories of them being close to nineteen feet with their tails and then up to five tons. So it would take a lot of team work. No matter differences. She needed to earn her place within Insomnia and prove to the rest of the pack that she was a worthy member and not just here to partake within the rewards. No, that wasn't Identifications personality.
She listened as Enyo has spoke out, then that of Grim and Ripper had come into veiw. They both were young but with their size known they could handle their own. "We have to be very careful and vigilant, especially dealing with a school. If one is out of the water it would be more promising." Her voice a whisper so the others could hear but noto loud enough to alert the school the ways infront of them. "Be vigilant and cautious. These are known for killing everything especially when females are in estures."
Ears swiveled upon her skull as she lowered her body down enough to be able to crawl around if need be. But also high enough that she would be able to take off and bring one closer to the group waiting. It would be a dangerous game of a hunt, a risk with all of their lives.

Epimethius was ready for what this hunt would require, he had been overjoyed to take a spot in Enyo's hunting party even if he was not part of the pack she came from. While he found the others a little odd he paid them no mind as he was solely focused on the task ahead. Tracking was something he loved to do, although going in for the kill was just as fun. Epi himself was unsure of which was his favorite part, all he knew was he loved the thrill of the hunt. His large form moved lithely over the ground, he let himself stay on the right edge of the group. It gave him the chance to pick up other scents and sounds that did not belong to the hunting party, his head hung low brushing against the tip of the strands of grass. He found this stance easier to remain undetected in case he had to hunker down, whilst remaining upright enough to charge after prey. As the lead huntress spoke his ears pricked in her direction, taking in her words and processing them. He took a deep breath taking in every scent and sound he could, this was not his first time hunting game this large but his first time going for a hippo. He knew that their thick hides would be rather hard to pierce and that they were powerful beasts, his companions however did have the upper hand on their foe when it came to speed. Although that did not mean the hippo would be slow in any means, they were just simply faster. As the canine named Ripper spoke Epimethius quickly turned in his direction, walking towards the tracks and taking a few sniffs. The musky tracks definitely belonged to the beast they had been tracking. Epimethius could feel his muscles shuddering in pure delight, or maybe slight anxiousness he was not 100 percent sure. All he knew was that they were drawing closer and he could already practically taste the blood in his mouth, or was he biting his tongue? He wasn't sure. Epimethius ear flicked back slightly as he watched Grim as he spoke, those two brothers made the man slightly uneasy. Although he did not believe them to be of any threat at the moment, he still did not wish to see them again if they ever awoke on the wrong side of the bed. Except it was a bit reassuring to him that Grim had at least come into some sort of contact with these beasts before, maybe they'd know what to do in these scenarios. The other woman, whos name he believed to be Identification spoke then, warning them to be care and vigilant. He found himself nodding to her words, taking in her advice and remembering it. "We have got this, I have no doubt that we will be able to swiftly bring this beast down. Especially with Enyo's size and strength." He offered a confident smile to the crowd, and come on now a little flattery never hurt. Especially when the one his flattery was directed at was a rather intimidating lady. |

This hippo would be a first for Flare, and he was keen to sink his teeth into his tough hide. Such a large hunt naturally required more wolves, so once more the wolf found himself in a group of hunters. He preferred his hunts to be solitary, but working his way up in the Syndicate ranks forced him to do things he would rather not.
At least the black and white wolf was no stranger to him, but someone who had proved themselves capable in the fight against the Elephant. He followed her lead, and mostly ignored the rest of the wolves in their hunting party.

This land was not her mother’s but she had picked up the scents of fellow Insomnia wolves, including her brothers, and so the femme had trailed after them. There was a group of wolves gathered already, most she did not recognize. But she slid up near her younger brothers, the skeletal fae’s gaze sliding to the femme who appeared to be in charge. “Morticia will assist.” She giggled, wanting to let the other femme know she was here to help. She, as well as another wolf bearing the scent of Insomnia were unfamiliar. Her ears swiveled forward and she sniffed the air. The prey scent was something different from what she was used to, but Morticia didn’t mind the idea of a potential challenge. |

Alexander had searched, but his search was in vain. He had found no trace of his mother, nor of his sister and Beauregard. It had felt like he was wandering in circles at this point. A bit weary, but he figured it was time to call it quits and head back to Auster. It had been some time since he’d had a sizeable meal, fur a little disheveled, but there was light in his eyes as he walked. Keeneye called from above - a hunting party lay ahead. Curious to see if they might accept another, Alexander picked up the pace to close the distance between them.
Once he had, he noticed that there were two different pack scents, as well as a wolf who didn’t seem to bear the scent of any pack on them at all. The male let his gaze switch to the leader of the group, padding until he was close to her. “Room for another?” He asked. He’d never hunted with a group this large before, but it had to be a nice change of pace.

Enyo stood at the edge of the valley, her eyes narrowed as they focused on the massive creature submerged in the river. The female hippo, half-hidden by the sparkling water, was deceptively still- save for the flick of an ear. It was the only sign that it had noticed the hunting party gathering on the bank. Enyo's nostrils flared, inhaling the thick scents of the valley, but her mind was fixed on strategy.
Her posture was as commanding as ever, head held high, muscles taut beneath her thick, piebald fur. The other wolves fanned out silently behind her, awaiting her signal. She could feel the tension among them, particularly from the outsiders she’d begrudgingly allowed to join. The more bodies the better she supposed. The presence of the dog grated on her nerves. She would silence the irritation, knowing the success of this hunt relied on numbers and discipline. Her thoughts drifted to the other figure in the party, Identification. Enyo’s lip twitched at the memory of her brother telling her of the maiming, but her face remained neutral. This was no time for personal grievances.
Focus on the mission.
Enyo glanced over her shoulder, meeting each wolf’s gaze, assessing their readiness. Her half-black, half-white face gleamed under the sunlight, and she could feel their eyes on her. Waiting for the order. She caught the dog’s eyes for a brief moment, his gaze too familiar for her liking. How does he know my name? she thought with a quick flash of suspicion but quickly dismissed it. He must’ve heard of her reputation. They all had. Perhaps the Dunamis were becoming more distinguished in Boreas.
But she had more pressing concerns.
With a deep inhale of the valley air, Enyo stepped forward, her massive paws sinking into the soft earth. The hippo remained motionless, its immense body partially hidden by the water. It wouldn't move unless it felt threatened... or irritated.
Her voice, thick and velvety like the low hum of thunder, broke the tense silence. "We need it on land. A water-bound hippo is as good as invincible." Her eyes gleamed with a calculating sharpness as she formulated the plan. "We’ll use its aggression against it. Split into two groups. The fastest half of you distract from the left, the others, with me, will take the right. Bait it toward the shore. Once it's on land, we strike. Don't get too close, if it grabs you there isn't much we can do to save you." Since there were 8, they should all split into equal groups of 4.
She turned her gaze toward the dog, a flicker of disdain crossing her eyes but her voice smooth and composed. "You. Run the riverbank, make noise, and keep it focused on you. Don't get too close." She paused, her eyes lingering on his smaller, less impressive build. For a dog, he was quite large but to a wolf he didn't compare. "If it charges... run." She spoke the words like a dare, her implied that he might not be up to the task.
Without waiting for confirmation, she motioned to the rest of the group, her broad shoulders rippling as she moved with powerful strides toward the right flank. Medusa’s children made up a good chunk of the party. She hoped they would take after their mother’s ferocious nature. Enyo glanced at Identification briefly. She didn’t trust her. Had no reason to but especially after hearing what her brother had to say. For now, they had a common goal.
The plan unfolded smoothly. As Enyo’s group approached from the right, the other wolves circled to the left, letting out barks and growls to catch the hippo’s attention. The water churned as the massive beast shifted, its small ears twitching in annoyance. Enyo’s heart quickened, the thrill of the hunt building in her chest, but she remained collected. This was about control. About forcing the hippo to make a mistake.
Enyo watched closely, muscles tensing, as the hippo’s eyes locked on the movement, its massive jaws opening in a low grunt. Then, it surged forward.
Now.
The hippo's bulk rose from the water, droplets cascading from its thick hide as it lumbered onto the shore. She would wait... Just a bit longer. Just far enough from the water that her group would be able to cut if off and prevent it from retreating to the safe river.
She watched as the hippo charged at the group. Waiting.

Aha! Their target was located! He looked up to find an older sibling coming up to join them, his own tail wagging in recognition. They hadn't seen Morticia for some time now, but she was back and couldn't have been at a better time! The brothers rubbed against her like purring cats before they broke off to take up their positions. The pair would be part of the group to distract, and then they'd go in to help with the kill at the most opportune moment. Circling around to the other side of the bank, he started barking and snarling, even going as far as flinging rocks at the hippo's thick hide to try and get it up and out of the water. Luckily their efforts started to work and the hippo left the safety of the water, eventually charging at the group in front of it. Meanwhile, the group behind would likely join in when the moment was right! |

Disaster
Identification watched and waited. The movements of the others that ventured closer allowing the hippo to come from the waters and charge at the small group. It was a dangerous task and one not to be taken lightly. The rocks that Grim and Reaper had thrown and tossed to the hippo worked. Excitement raced threw Identification. Creeping low upon her stomach as getting closer, she wouldn't dare punch the gun just yet. But watch and wait, waiting for the right moment for her own attack. She didn't know the others except the pack mates that gathered around, and would keep her guard up with them, but also help if need be. But doubting that she would need. Identification was smart enough to know when the moment was right to attack. She just needed it turned from her just a little bit more, just a moment longer is all the woman would need.
Creeping low against the ground, saliva pooling within her mouth, she was hungry and this would feast everyone and many others. Possibly would allow the others whom showed to carve a hefty chunk out and take it for later. Licking her lips as just then the hippo turned, giving Identification the moment to strike. She was delighted how her muscles coiled and uncoiled with the tension that hung in the air. But also the excitement that swam within her entire body.
Sorry it's crappy.

Epimethius gives a nod towards Enyo, his face turning to face the hippo giving off a long series of sharp growls and barks before making a dash for the river bank. Continuing to look back and make a ruckus, hoping that the hippo, which was now beached thanks to the crew that had gathered, would charge after him. Soon enough it started lumbering toward surprising speed after him, his tactic was to stay just far enough away from it that it stayed focused on him but he stayed out of its way if it charged. He would turn to face it for a moment, snarling and gnashing his teeth at it aggressively to keep its attention on him and hopefully give the others any sort of advantage to start their pursuit. He would stay cautious, however, watching it for any sign of charging toward him. He was fast, after all, he could manage if it chased him. |

They did not seem to mind her presence and, in fact, she was greeted by her little brothers. With a warm grin Morticia returned their affections, bumping both Ripper and Grim in kind. Her eyes were shining, happy to be with members of her family once more. They were getting big! She’d been gone longer than she thought! Listening to the plan, Morticia gave eager nods. They wanted a distraction? Alright, she could help with that! Her brothers were off and Morticia tore after them, tail flying behind her and ears perked forward with eagerness. She knew the hippo was dangerous, but that wasn’t going to stop her from getting its attention! She joined her brothers in heckling the hippo, only when they threw rocks, Morticia turned around and began kicking up clods of dirt at the beast. She giggled as she did so, hearing the beast come out. Then there came the dog, only coaxing it out further! “Come out, come out to play~” |

Alexander was welcomed into the group, and his interest turned back to their quarry. Two groups, a set of distractors and heckles first, and then the attack force on the right. Alexander knew he wasn’t the fastest wolf, but his sabers had helped aid him in hunts before by crippling prey. Though as thick as a hippo was, could he even cut through the fat? Curious to try Alexander waited with the other group, alongside the cream and ivory fae. His fur raised, jaws slightly parted as he waited for the leader of the hunting party to signal the attack. His body was ready to tear off at a moment’s notice and slam into the beast. One way or another it was coming down!

Enyo surged forward like a thunderstorm made flesh. Her massive paws pounded the soft ground beneath her, muscles rippling under her dense piebald coat. She moved with the precision of a seasoned hunter.
The hippo, now fully committed to its charge, bellowed in rage, its jaws parting to reveal teeth that could snap bone in an instant. Enyo was undeterred, her piercing, mismatched gaze locked onto the beast. She knew the hippo’s fury made it dangerous, but also predictable. Perfect.
Enyo aimed for the hippo’s left side with an explosive lunge, avoiding its massive head's deadly arc. Her powerful jaws clamped onto the creature’s thick hide just behind the shoulder, teeth sinking into the leathery flesh. She tasted copper and felt the beast’s muscles shudder beneath her bite, but she knew better than to hold on for long.
Her grip was meant to provoketo force the hippo further from the water and into the teeth of the others. She wrenched her head violently to the side, tearing into the thick hide just enough to anger the beast. The hippo roared, swinging its head in a wide arc. Enyo released her bite just in time, narrowly avoiding the massive tusks that swept the air where she’d been.
She pivoted gracefully, her weight shifting as darted away from the hippo’s charge. "Now!" she barked, her voice deep and commanding, resonating with undeniable authority. "Take it down!"
The hunting party sprang into action.
Enyo remained just outside the fray, her massive frame prowling the edge of the battle like a storm waiting to break. She didn’t need to deliver the final blow. This kill belonged to the others. She had done her part, leading the hunt, driving the hippo from the water, and positioning her wolves for success. She would leave the amazing satisfaction of the kill for the others. She would leap in here and there to redirect the hippo.
"Finish it!" she commanded, her velvety voice thick with anticipation. Her icy and silver-blue eyes gleamed with satisfaction, watching as her team closed in for the kill.

Epimethius ears perked as Enyo attacked the beast. He understood that she was trying to provoke the beast but he could not stop himself from looking at her in awe, her strength was admirable to him. She was a force to be reckoned with and he was glad to follow her lead. Soon she was giving the hunting party commands, eager to get them to take down the beast. She was sharing the satisfaction of the kill with them and Epimethius would not take that for granted. He sprang forward, rushing the hippo, moving right as he avoided its head. Then he was on it, tearing at the flesh of the side of the hippo's muscle-covered neck. The feel of the flesh beneath his teeth drove him on, tearing at the beast with passion. He cleaned his claws onto the side of the creature, knowing that the party would bring it down soon enough. 3/3 "Talk"
