Now what in the flying fuck was this place? Cygnus thought the earthquakes last night had been bad, and the way the sky was streaked dark crimson was even more odd, but this strange terrain was even weirder. The tall stone spires were unlike anything he'd ever seen before, unlike any tree or monument he'd ventured past. He hadn't been around these parts before, so he didn't know if they'd ever been here before or not. Something about them said they were ancient though, certainly older than him and probably all the inhabitants here. It was like he knew it deep in his bones.

Danger, though? He didn't know her.

He'd never really been one to be deterred by things others deemed dangerous. Instead of worrying about what he might find, even if something deep in his soul knew this place wasn't quite right, he trudged on. His paws carried him quickly over the uneven ground as he approached one of the structures, sniffing at its base. If these stone spikes were here, maybe there were other treasures to unearth too...

You know when something seems off but curiosity urges you onward?

Yeah, well, considering curiosity killed the cat Sucre probably shouldn’t have been poking her nose into this land, but her curiosity was far too great. Waking up to the sky being crimson had been a sight to see. Anna and Nina were less certain about going anywhere, but Sucre on the other paw felt a nagging in her gut, a pull toward some land in the west. And now that she was here, she was trying to make sense of what she saw. The pillars were tall, made of stone that was weathered and discolored in a way she’d never seen before. She reached a paw up to one, feeling its somewhat smoothed surface.

A scent was carried to her on the breeze and Sucre looked up. Down at one of the other stone spikes was another feline, larger than herself but still smaller than some of the wolves she had seen. Turning away her paws carried her toward him. He was so fluffy, with tufted ears and floofy cheeks. Her green gaze was shining as she spoke, calling out to him. “Have you ever seen anything like it?” She asked. She certainly hadn’t. Though she was still exploring all that Boreas had to offer.

Cygnus could only chalk all of this up to the strange world he'd wandered into. Already he'd seen far stranger sights than he could've ever expected, and this was no different. Enough staring at the sky though, he had treasures to uncover! Not that he could really ignore the way the red-stained sky, but at least he could focus on other things, like these strange spikes that protruded from the ground and climbed high toward the clouds.

Taking a few steps closer to one of the spires, he paused when he heard the approach of another. It was another cat, which he was grateful for- at least it wasn't a horse this time. He nearly snorted as he recalled that encounter. "Hello there! Can't say I have, but I'm pretty new to these parts," the lynx confessed, flicking his tufted ears slightly.

The stranger was much smaller than him, and he felt comfortable letting his guard down a bit. Feeling like they were kindred souls, both being felines and all, definitely helped too. "Ya think we could climb one of these?" Some of them were leaning a bit more drastically than others, their jagged spikes not quite horizontal with the ground but damn near close.

Sucre had to admit - it was nice encountering another feline, if it was under strange circumstances. Unlike herself, who had been born in Boreas, he confessed that he was a newcomer. The molly gave a nod. “It’s nothing I’ve ever heard of or seen either, though I was born here in boreas.” She told him. Her gaze flicked back to the spike. This was one of the ones that was leaning, and her green eyes curiously examined it. A breeze had started blowing through the area too, a wailing brought with it as it passed through the holes on the structures. Sucre hopped up onto the spire, gripping with her claws, and cast a look at the lynx.

“It seems stable enough. Given our size, I doubt it would be moved at all.” Her ears flicked back as another gust drew out the sound louder now. “I think the wind blowing through them is making the noise, though I don’t know why. It’s… eerie.” Sucre took a couple steps up the spike and flashed her new companion a grin. “I’m Sucre by the way, what’s yours?” She was trying to not let her mind play tricks on her. This place was creepy, but surely there was some explanation to all this. The wailing was from the spikes… but the call made her fur stand on end.

…Something felt off and she couldn’t put her paw on it. She had the feeling she’d be grateful for the companionship of the lynx in the time that followed.

Cygnus whole-heartedly agreed with Sucre. Wolves were fine, he supposed, but cats just were more familiar and comfortable to be around. At least the other feline couldn't easily reach over and scruff him like a bigger wolf could- not something that'd ever happened to him, but he couldn't help but be wary of it anyway for some reason. That was probably just his survival instincts talking, though. He liked being alive way too much to let anyone else get close enough to hurt him.

Giving his head a little shake, he listened to what Sucre had to say. "That's what this land is called, then- Boreas?" Interesting. Boy, did he have a lot to learn still. The other feline seemed rightfully confused and a little on-edge about this place, which made Cygnus start to think maybe he ought to be, too. He had no idea what sorts of lands and happenings were normal around here, but apparently this was far from the norm.

The whistling sound that followed was eerie enough on its own, though Cygnus followed, gracefully hopping onto one of the leaning spikes. Its surface was solid, clearly not something either of them could make topple over.

"Eerie's one word for it," the lynx remarked with another flick of his tufted ears. "Name's Cygnus. You think this place is dangerous or somethin'?" He'd ask, wondering what she thought of it all. He knew he was naive when it came to these lands, and he had no shame in fishing for as much information as he possibly could.
