She was super far from home like REALLY far, but she just couldn't quite explain it. There was something about... whatever was happening that drew her down across the land bridge. Being as young as she is, it was frightening as much as it was exciting. Exploring and see all the new lands and environments was thrilling and overwhelming, but she was enjoying her freedom while she could. Because she knew she would be in a LOT of trouble when she finally made back it home. Trying not to think about those consequences, the tremors that came around dusk easily distracted her.
As her growing legs wobbled over the dunes, she noticed how the dirt seemed different in this stretch. She wasn't quite to the ocean yet, but just enough that she could hear the waves crashing along the shore. Channels of rising dirt snaked between bone ridden knolls and sandy dunes. What were these? Her vibrant eyes looked all around as she kept her nose close to the ground. Maybe if she could find a hole or something, she could find more clues...

Davey has an easy time outrunning Tide. Frankly, he laps the shrimpy boy-- sucks to lose to random number generator jesus, when it comes to height. Sucks to be Baitboy, who's none too pleased with the amount of times his taller littermate has danced around him, on their walk to the Shore. They were exploring, damn it. Davey takes all the time in the world to soak in the environment, an attempt to figure out just what was up with this fishy business.
Fishy. Ha. They're going to the Shore. As they close in, Davey's gaze catches someone-- oh! Someone familiar. Among the strange, winding cracks that have already begun to spread, a tall, pretty girl. A look to Tide, a jerk of his muzzle. There had to be other Raiders here, and Baitboy should probably be finding them right about now. A rude gesture from his brother, and the two part ways.
"Maggie," he calls, picking up a long, easy lope as he closes the distance. Gazing at the strange land around them, and how it's only gotten stranger. "Shit's wild, yeah?" Trying to appear nonchalant, but when has the excitable ever been... chill? Never. Pawing at one of the growing cracks in the dirt beneath his feet, kicking at it to see what would happen. "Wanna check it out with me?" Grinning, trying to look relaxed, but way too kinetic to even look relaxed.
"Davey"

The channels of raised dirt haven’t brought too much to the surface yet. Her nose is covered in the moist brown material, coating her nostrils and lining her whiskers. There weren’t any animal scents that she could tell so far. What had made these things?
A sudden voice calling out her name had her head whipping upward. Orange eyes bright as she peers into the darker red shadows of light. “Davey?” Her head cants, lashes beating against her cheeks in surprise as the boy approaches. “What’re you doing here?” Mags wrinkles her nose almost in disgust but she can’t hide the smile and way of her tail. As much as she wants to try and bully him, a piece of her thinks they’ll be friends.
“More like check it out with me, yeah?” She teases, her lips pulling up into a smile before she reaches over to shoulder check him. “All I can see is how the ground is all raised up in these lines but they’re not straight,” mags mentions with a furrow of her brow now that her attention was back on the peculiar landscape.

Tremors underfoot, threatening to send Davey ass over tea kettle. Still, he digs into the ground and does what he can to stay upright. Can't look that uncool, especially in front of someone else. Especially especially, in front of Maggie. Watching as she bats the dirt from her face, a lazy grin pulling over his face. Rolling his eyes at her wrinkled nose, at least it's in jest. Waving his tail in return, closing the distance.
"Can't keep me in one place for long, even if they wanted to try." A smirk, a toss of his head. There's too much going on, and nothing was going to keep him away from it. The red skies and threatening atmosphere was too fucking exciting for the boy to deny.
Turned up dirt beneath their feet, it didn't look like any molehill or anything else he'd seen before. Scuffing at it with his paws, another tremor rolling through the land. They fluctuate in just how violent they are, but it's enough to leave him unsettled. "There was some weird shit up north too, spikes taller than trees with no branches." Explaining what he'd seen, even though it was... damn near unexplainable. "What if we follow them, find the source?" A roll of his shoulders and a wiggle of his brow, they could go hunting for the origin point of the strange cracks in the earth.

Putting their playful banter aside, Magdalene attempted to refocus on the... peculiar happenings at paw. She had never seen anything like it before if she were being truthful and she couldn't tell if that should be worrisome or not. After all, she was still a pup and well, she didn't know everything.
When he mentions the spikes up north, her eyes widen and turn toward the sky. "You think it's connected?" Mags whispers softly, a shiver running down her spine the same time as a tremor released from beneath her. The sky was the same red everywhere she went but these raised lines of earth didn't seem the same as the spikes that reached for the sun. "A source? You're not worried it's some giant animal?" She questions, almost teasing as she shoots him a grin.
"C'mon, lets check it out," it doesn't take but a moment for her to regather her courage and reach over to nip Davey in his scruff. Leading him down the way, she begins to follow the path of the nearest winding channel.

The banter doesn't stop, rolling easily between the two despite the strange circumstances. It's hard to explain to puppies that they should be worried, or at least, more worried than they are about the weird set of circumstances before them. "Little too much for coincidence, especially with them earthquakes last night." Davey puffed out his chest, at least pretending to be an authority on the subject. Truth be told? He had no fucking idea, but Davey was a big fan of faking it until he makes it.
"What, a big strong girl like you wouldn't protect me from some weirdo creature? Lame," smirking as he keeps time with Mags. As her teeth find his scruff, the boy returns it with a light snap to the air beside her face. "I like our odds against like, a giant mole, at least." Grinning as he picks up a lope, keeping up with her longer strides.
Following the strange scars in the earth, Davey's gaze is sharp. Nose low to the ground, trying to find the source. Where had they come from, and why? Searching for something deep within the earth, whatever was causing the tremors and the cracking. "Did you guys get weird shaking 'n shit up north last night, too?" Conversational, though he's trying to collect pieces of the puzzle. Winding deeper inland, he's ever-curious. Lighthearted, even with the weird circumstances at hand. Red skies and strange shifts beneath his paws be damned.

Davey's words are lost on Mag's ears when the ground beneath them suddenly began to groan. Not like the tremors from last night. Something different. Something terrifying. She stops on a dime, sharp claws digging into the churned dirt as her heavier weight plunges forward. Bracing in case Davey ended up barreling into her, she waits a beat or two, her breath held. Still the ground beneath grumbled and rumbled deep, deep, down below.
"Definitely an animal," she whispers, "or a monster," her eyes go wide as she looks up to Davey. "Help me dig and I promise I'll keep ya safe," Mags winks, a barely courageous smirk on her lips before she turns her attention back to the dirt. Her paws rake forward, digging down into the channel next to them in hopes of finding something cool.
