The Unraveling - It Spreads
Gem was glad to have her traveling companion, Gypsy, with her. The body heat they shared was just enough to fight off the thread of hypothermia. Just enough to keep her curious about exploring the precarious wonder that loomed ahead of them. Gypsy's soft voice brings a shrug from Gem. "I have no idea," she whispers back, noticing the amassing wolves. She really wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing... Apparently it wasn't a good thing. Suddenly, the tunnel around them began to quake and rumble from every direction. Ice shatters, shrieking as it crashes to the ground, narrowly avoiding them. Gem skitters away from the cluster of wolves, practically dragging Gypsy with her. She couldn't leave the blind women to defend herself. Unsure what had caused the commotion until the icy mist dissipated, she tries to breathe through the fear. Gem hadn't even noticed her sister had joined the fray. How was she to protect Gypsy and Estie? Feeling the touch of Gypsy, Gem shifts back toward the woman as her eyes draw toward the sound of something ahead of them. Waiting, peering from the ceiling, the image of the giant worm forces her breath to stop. Her eyes widen as she clings closer to Gypsy. "G-giant ww-wworm," Gem mutters under her breath as she continues to slowly slide Gypsy back toward the mouth of the cavern. Run. Run. Run. Her mind screamed over and over. |
Hematite, Gem's Mastiff, is always with her unless stated he isn't.
Around them the earth continued to rumble before it finally stilled. Had the earthquake finally ended then? Though as Éldi made that thought he wasn't sure he could really call the rumblings an earthquake. It was more like there was something near them tunneling and suddenly a massive worm burst through the ceiling. Éldi's jaw dropped open and he stared at the creature in stunned speechlessness. He never seen such a beast and even the legends he'd been told as a pup could hardly identify this creature.
His breath twisted from his mouth as mist as he eyed the worm. It hovered there, seeming to be waiting for something. Did it know for sure where they were? He couldn't see an eye on the creature. He felt Askr moving down his back, the raven grabbed a piece of ice and chucked it up toward the ceiling away from the wolves.

Oh shit! Kea dove out of the way when it seemed the ceiling was about to fall. Too busy dodging chunks of ice, he almost missed the cause of it. He looked up, and he spotted the giant fucking worm and his face went bright rage with outrage. A worm! Another fucking worm! How much bad luck could be in his life? At least this one wasn’t in lava, and it looked… different.
He realised after a moment he was crouched down for balance (and fear) waiting for something to happen. What was going to happen next? Was it going to attack them? He was far from the only wolf here.
You're not feeling so well...

The earth was already pleasantly rolling beneath his paws, so when the shuddering increased, he hardly noticed. It would take more than that to knock the barrel roller off his feet. The chunks of ice falling from the ceiling though, well that was new. The cacophonous barking of his girls had him turning just in time to see the giant worm descend from the ceiling. "Th' fuck?" he barely managed to slur before his eyes narrowed and the fire lit in his veins.
Falling ice had struck one wolf in the leg, the coppery tang of blood filling the air, the others all seemed frozen in place or cowering from shock. Not Ken. "Oi! Yer limp fuck! We're walkin' ere!" How the fuck was he meant to teach it a lesson hanging from the roof like that? Scattered debris could serve as an incline to leap from, but well, he'd never been one to think too far ahead. Charging and using the scattered boulders as a springboard he charged, paws extended and jaws parted wide to try and grab onto the party crasher. If it was a fight it wanted, it would get one from him.

Hanako thought she was better; felt as though she was. She was quick on her paws, but evidently not fast enough as the roof began to cave in, hurtling shards of ice down upon the group. A sharp, ripping pain slashed across her back left leg and Hanako cried out in pain, unable to help herself. She gritted her teeth, her figure slumping as she struggled to support her weight on her now damaged limb, well there was no running now, though admittedly it hadn't really even been an option from the very start. Too focused on trying to not...die, she supposed, she hadn't really had the time to notice her company. Least of all that her daughter was here. And as bitchy as she was, could you really blame her? There was a giant ice worm right there.
Blood seeped down her leg, the droplets staining the ice beneath her paw a vivid red. She had felt pain before and this certainly hurt, but the adrenaline coursing through her veins was no doubt keeping the worst of it at bay. She could still move, but not as fast. Did the creature sense her blood? Could she serve as a distraction? One way to find out, she supposed, better to do something than just die.
"If I distract it, you lot better tear it apart or so help me." She hissed through gritted teeth as she stepped away from the main part of the group, hobbling quickly to see if it would dislodge itself from where it dangled on the roof.
The worm claws at the ceiling, staying attached to the surface. Hazel has seen some shit in her day, but this? This is new. A brown boy, slurring his words and throwing himself at the beast... ah shit. He's drunk. Meanwhile, Hanako playing bait to get it down from the ceiling. Hazel quietly pads to place herself at about the beast's drop point, putting herself between the danger and her ex's injured mother. Hackles up, crystalline fangs gleaming, she's ready for the worm. Ready as she'll ever be.
Suddenly, all hell breaks loose.
From above, the ice shatters, pulling his attention skyward as he is forced to quickly dodge out of the way of some of the bigger, more dangerous chunks. A cry of pain pulls his pale gaze downward and, amidst the fallen, glittering chunks of ice the yearling spies several other gathered wolves. Chaos sets in as some seem to jockey for protective positions over others while one teenager in particular slurs his words and launches himself at the new entity.
Gaze snaps back up to the creature that now clings to the clinging, quickly taking stock of its build and crystal sharp teeth while deciding what part he is going to attack. With a huge, crazed grin, the boy lets out a loud whoop of excitement and follows the lead of the other yearling by charges toward the strange worm. Some debris server as an incline and his fat paws thunder up the makeshift ramp before is forced to launch himself through the air.
Jaws open wide as Wade seeks to grab ahold of one of the flared hinges that usually cover the mouth, hoping to snag it and maybe cause it some pain. Who knows, maybe he can even pull the creature down to a more manageable height! As he goes, Sly and Loki holler that encouragement from the depths of his mind.
Wade is crazy and hears voices that he often talks to; sometimes out loud and sometimes in his head. Don't worry about it.
do you want to burn it with me?
Others had gathered in the cave, but few he recognized. Wade was the only other from Insomnia that had ventured this far and he wondered what brought him up here. Was he hunting too? It hardly mattered as the conversations of others quickly silenced as the roof began to shake and something emerged from it. If he had any shrooms that day, he'd have thought he was hallucinating, but given that others were also clearly seeing the worm tear from the ceiling he knew that he wasn't.
It didn't do much besides stare at them with it's eye-less face and strange mouth, but that didn't stop the others from trying to attack it. Being so much shorter than most of the others, Battery wasn't sure if he could even reach it by jumping! What a shame- but wait, Wade is much taller! Suddenly his tail began to wag, as if standing on his back was actually a good idea. Battery certainly thought it was, anyway.
"Wade! Give me a boost!" he said, sounding far too excited given there was a literal monster hanging above them all. Stepping closer towards his pack mate, he was only one moment away from climbing onto his back and taking a shot at the strange creature.
