Padding away from the small gathering of Arcanum wolves, Valentine would paused once he was satisfied with the distance. Turning on his heels, the boy's gaze would flit across the group in search of his mother's form. "Should I win, I wish to be considered for a higher rank." The lowly title of 'juvenile' chafed at him. Sure, he was just shy of adulthood, but he was not a child. No, if he was old enough to claim a pack, then he was surely old enough to hold a position of merit upon the Arcanum wolves. Hopefully his efforts today would prove that and the cobalt prince would be lifted out of the nursery and into the battlefield where he belonged. Rolling his shoulders, Valentine took a steadying breath and released it slowly. He stretched, wishing to loosen up his muscles and perhaps alleviate some of the tension that had taken up residence in them. It wasn't the fear of pain that had him wound tight, but instead the possibility of disappointing Cataleya. More than anything else, he strove for her approval. The blue boy who was to be his mentor, or at least was to be what felt like years ago now would face off against him. Following after him Novocaine kept his gaze planted solidly on Valentine. Words went flying over him, no doubt sent towards the silver woman. Tipping his head back ever so slightly Novocaine spoke as well. ?Ditto.? Then he squared off against the blue boy.
Novocaine dropped slightly, his knees bending. Toes would splay to grip the earth better, tail flicking out behind him like a rudder. Eyes would narrow, lips curling and ears pulling back flat against his skull. Shoulder rolled forwards as he dropped his head over his throat, the fur along his neck rising. The boy would wait, this time he would show some patients.

Novocaine seconded Valentine's request and then prepared himself for the spar. He gave no verbal indication that he was ready, but the cobalt youth decided to take his stance as an answer. In response he began to set his own defenses; weight was distributed evenly over splayed toes, muscles tensed as shoulders rolled forward and head lowered to become even with his spine. To complete the protective shield around his throat, he tucked his chin. Ears pinned as hackles rose; his tail coming up behind him to bring the whole of his spinal column into alignment. Topping off his defenses, the boy bent his knees and narrowed his eyes. Toes dug into the dirt as he charged forward, aiming to come at Novocaine head on. Taking a deep breath in preparation of an impact, Valentine rolled his right shoulder further forward, aiming to drive it squarely into the upper throat of his much shorter opponent. Beneath him, three of his paws became grounded, excluding his right forelimb, as he dug his nails into the dirt. With his chin still tilted down, the boy craned his neck out and to his right, intent on using his greater size to his advantage and further his attack. His jaws parted, head quickly lowering over guarded throat as he strove to sink his top teeth into the left side of Novocaine's forehead, just above his left eye. His bottom teeth would seek a lower hold, aiming to slice into the other boy's left cheekbone and drive upwards to threaten his opponent's eye. Lastly, Valentine raised his right forelimb off the ground and extended it forward and to his right, aiming to hook his opponent's left forelimb at the wrist (Ankle? Whatever you call joint above the paw) with his own wrist and dewclaw, and drag it towards Valentine's left in the hopes that Novocaine would topple.
