finding refuge is not enough

They would move soon. They could not continue to call the mountain home when so much was at stake. They would rise from the dust, from their failures, and prove themselves again as their gods had done when faith in them had been lost. They would not fail, but they would change. They would go by Olympus no more, preserving the name for the family it honored and sharing another instead with their pack mates. The laws would change, customs would change, because the Matriarch and Patriarch had changed.

The ebony woman made her way slowly to the battlefield, the most frequented and central place in all of Alacritia. She stopped every so often to catch her breath, still weak despite the fact that all of her wounds had long been healed. Poe stood silent on her shoulder, prepared to defend his mistress as needed. He dropped to the ground to walk beside her when she slowed then stopped, settling herself in the middle of the barren land on her haunches.

If Natalya and Helios were going to claim a home for their family and rescue those they had lost, they would need support from within, not just from faithful allies. The queen tipped her mouth to the sky and released a howl to the moon. She prayed that someone would answer and find what she had to offer worthwhile.
