Darkness enveloped him, pressing into him from all sides as if he were an unborn child. Instead of instilling him with fear, the darkness served to heighten his senses and egged him on, telling him it was a place worth exploring. His imagination, given no sight to work with, created images to fill the void; images that whispered of danger and lurking forces. He moved with caution, eyes wide to catch what little light was available.

Behind him, a sound caused the brute to freeze. Immediately he pivoted, his imagination conjuring up images of would be attackers. His breathing quickened, adrenaline coursing through his veins and sending his heart racing. It beat in his ears with near deafening force. He was not afraid, no, he was alive. Every inch of him was alight with awareness, a wakefulness that he'd never experienced before. It was the feeling before a fight double, tripled, the stakes impossibly high and the odds in the other's favor. He belonged in the darkness.

A wicked smile tugging up the corners of his mouth, he rumbled, "Who's there?"

It had been some time now since the young female had last been in one of these holes that split the earth, the ground giving way beneath her paws and dirt overwhelming her body. Koi honestly thought she was going to die that day, buried alive and unable to tell which way was up for oxygen or which was further down and would lead to her death. That's why she was very careful this time, moving a foot or two before stopping and listening, paws feeling every shift of the ground beneath her before continuing on.

Suddenly she tripped over a rock and bumped into a wall, causing a squeak to slip from the girl's surprised body. She wheeled backwards, paws moving too fast and wildly to keep herself up. Smack! Her back hit the wall rough, knocking the air right out of her lungs. She keeled over, jaws parted ad breathing heavily. "Calm down. Calm down." She told herself, head lifting and copper eyes trying to search the darkness to look at what she had run into. Much to her embarrassment, ears folded back as she realized it was simply a wall.

Luckily something would grab her attention, pulling her mind from that sad moment and towards a voice not far away. From what she could figure out ,it was a male, asking who was there. Ears perked up quickly, picking herself up form the ground and standing. "A friend!" She barked back, hopefully that it would be a friendly wolf that could help her out. As much as she hated it, the girl had managed to become lost in this place, and being in the dark was definitely on her scare list.

Brazen in his movements, the brute would pad towards the noise. As he drew closer, more sounds exploded in the distance. It sounded like something being attacked; there was the echoing sound of a collision followed by a squeal. Despite this, words meant to reassure soon reached his ears. A friend. Something about the voice was familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. The identity of her was just out of reach.

Her darkened form came into view and immediately their meeting jumped to the forefront of his mind. The fae who'd never been kissed. How could he forget? Their time together was forever seared into his memory by embarrassment. He grinned at her, rumbling, "A friend indeed," as he approached. Surely she would remember him.

She waited in silence, ears angled away from each other to try and get as much field of hearing as possible. You never knew what lingered in the darkness, and so because of she tried to stay away from places like this as much as possible. After she had called out to the voice it had gone silence once again, the possibility of the being having left making Koi bite her lip gently in worry. If the person had left it was going to be a pain and good struggle to get out of here, especially uninjured.

There it was again, a low rumbling voice and a dark figure moving through the darkness towards her. Lips lifted in a small smile, tail lightly swinging behind her small frame. She couldn't help but feel like it was familiar, mind racing through memories in an effort to match a face and, or, a name to who it could possibly be. ?It's so dark.? She took a step forward, voice gentle, almost childish. Copper eyes were struggling with no light, but what she was able to make out was that this male was very large. She sniffed the air, the scent flowing into her nose and being registered. ?Valentine!? She barked quietly, not wanting her voice to travel to an unwanted guest.

She seemed to grow exciting meeting the guy again, actually surprised to run into him so soon after their last, amusing meeting. But she would remember what happened towards the end of it, the whole first kiss thing. Immediately she stuck her bottom lip out and lifted her head, tail raising and giving a single, smooth swing. "Are you lost as well?" She questioned, taking another step towards him while her head turned away to scan the darkness.

"It's so dark." Her voice would rush towards him, bouncing off the cavern walls and whispering to him from all directions. He chuckled, the amused sound spreading like wildfire around them. "You're not afraid of the dark, are you?" Valentine teased.

His name left her lips, each quiet syllable breaking apart to come at him in a chorus of greetings. The dark walls murmured his name, sending ripples of excitement coursing through the brute. His imagination painted images of dark, stalking figures prowling about, egging him on, encouraging him to capitalize on the power he found in the darkness.

Her question pulled an amused snort from him. "Hell no." Him, lost? Nah. Okay, so maybe he wasn't 100% sure how to get out of the caverns, but he was confident that when he was done exploring and it was time to leave that the way out would be easily found. "I don't get lost," he said cockily, "So you, my dear, are in luck."

He was amused by her reaction to the dark, chuckling and asking if she was afraid. To this the female straightened up and narrowed her eyes on him, much like a child does when somebody makes fun of them for something. ?No I am not!? She stated with a turn of her head and raise of her tail, not forgetting her had also teased her about the kiss thing last time they had met, their first encounter. She would not give him anything else to tease her about, no way, this time she would try to keep some comments to herself that he could possibly use against her. She had this!

When it came to her question about being lost, the male's reaction made her smirk so hard. Hell no, he didn't get lost. The way he said it was so cocky that it made Koi think he was seriously lost and that by saying it like that was just a failed way to make her think he knew what he was doing. When he told her she was in luck she gave him that girl look like she was silently saying, ?sure I am? though he might not be able to see it in the dark.

"Well then genius," paws carried the small female over till she was standing nearly shoulder to shoulder to Valentine. "Help a girl out, won't you?" She smiled, tail swinging calmly behind her frame and copper eyes narrowing as she tried to look through the dark.

"Well then, genius..." She egged him on, pulling a smirk to the brute's lips. "Help a girl out, won't you?" Alright, fine then. "Gladly," he purred, taking her words as a challenge. He waited until he felt her at his side before moving off. "This way, my lady."

He moved back the way he'd come, even though he was reluctant to leave the darkness. It called to him, begged to him to explore, and perhaps he would later, but first he needed to prove Koi wrong. In the darkness the brute had to rely heavily on his other senses and as he was quickly finding out, his hearing was the second weakest down here. It was so empty, so vast, that each sound made by the wolves was amplified and thrown back at them, making the air cramped with meaningless noise. Before long, even though Valen was sure he was retracing his steps, the brute felt the walls and ceiling closing in on him as the path they were on narrowed. The sensation was wrong, he knew that immediately, and so without much thought, Valentine quickly whipped around.

He'd forgotten the nearness of Koi. It wasn't until he sensed how close he was to bumping into her chest that he slammed on the brakes. He'd been relying heavily on his nose to guide him and so the brute had developed a hunched stance with his neck stretched out, nose pointed down, much like a blind man groping along in the dark. Without meaning to, he towered over the little she wolf.

The fae's breath tickled his jaw, the sensation stilling him as he stared down into the darkness where he guessed her eyes to be. His breath caught in his throat, body tensing as he was set ablaze with feeling.
