Now that her pups were older, Ocena felt more comfortable leaving them in the loving care of Crusade and Keki. The greatest thing about having pups right around the time of two other females was that she knew that no matter what, there would always be someone around to watch her children if Ocena wanted to get out for a little bit. As much as she loved her trio, it was difficult to deal with all three of them nonstop. Every once in a while, a mother needed a break. It was something that the other two mothers seemed to understand, especially now that her pups were growing up and beginning to explore the world a bit more. Ocena realized that she needed to let them go, to let them grow, but it was hard for a mother, especially since Asheni's killer had not yet been captured.

But what could a mother do? Ocena was well aware of the fact that if she tried to keep them in the cave constantly, her pups would rebel and sneak out at times when it was even more dangerous because no one knew. At least now she knew that Gargoyle and others always had an eye on her children.

A smile crossed the black and white female's features at the thought of her loving mate, and Ocena felt her tail begin to wag as she padded thoughtfully through the snow. The thick blanketing over the ground made it easier for her to walk, despite the fact that she was rather lacking in depth perception and such things. But the insecurity that had almost destroyed her had begun to fade, and her confidence had been bolstered by the love that Gargoyle and her children had for her. She was far from perfect, Ocena knew, but she knew also that she was good enough and that was all that she had ever wanted.

Coming to a smooth stop, Ocena settled back on her haunches as her mis-matched gaze looked out on the horizon. She was sitting next to a pleasant little lake, one where many prey animals came to drink. As of right then, however, most were gone, warned off by the scent of wolf on the breeze. But that was all right; Ocena wasn't all that hungry. Instead, she just wanted a little bit of time to think. Though she certainly wouldn't complain if another wolf showed up. Ocena was always ready to have a conversation.
